Many printer manufacturers come up with cheap printers! Some printers are as low as RM99 to about RM 199. The catch is, the ink is expensive.

Where can we refill our printer cartridges ?
Is there anybody out there who modified their printers so that it intakes different type of ink ?

I would like to inform you guys that if you guys are using plotters, HP has a brand where even if you do not use the color ink, it has an expiry date! Can you imagine how unfair to the consumer this is ? you do not use the ink but the ink becomes expired and you have to buy a new ink!

Yup, I know what you mean. Couple of years ago, my old Epson printer ran out of black ink and whilst shopping around, found out that the original cartridge was RM 90 and the chaplunk one RM 50. Around the same time Tesco had an offer to trade in your old printer (working or otherwise) and get to buy a new Epson complete with new black and colour cartridges for .... taadaa .... RM 90 !!

Also, I was told that most inkjet printers have OEM ink cartridges available in the market. Downside is that most will not work very well with problems of either recognising the new full cartridge, smudging or  blocked nozzles. Feedback from friends seems that the most hardy printer which will tolerate most OEM ink seems to be the Canon .... "anything also can" ;)

Anyone else with their experiences ?

Jayan

I used to refill my Canon printers with BCI24 Black and Color. The black ones cost about RM 40 for twin pack (or RM 20 one cartridge). The color ones cause about RM78 for twin pack.

Due to warranty issues, I used the original inks.

Then I came across my10's brand. These are CHAP-PALANG (not original) brands. I bought 4 black cartridges for the prices of RM 25!!!! In other words, it's about 4 times cheaper than the original one

That's the cheapest ink I ever bought

Their webpage is located at http://www.my10s.com/product/toner.asp and I bought this product: - my10's Canon 4 in 1 Value Pack ( 4 x BCI-24B )

Note to Admin: I may look as though I am advertising but I am in no way affiliated to this company. I posted this company for the benefit of other readers so they know where to refill their inks at a more economical price

I have give up using colour desk jet.

I now print all my stuff black and white via a LASER PRINTER, which cost about RM300. I bought mine for about RM600 many years ago, it prints over 2000 pages... or a few ream of papers for a toner cartridge about RM250.

For my photos, I have the canon selphy printer, using dye sub (film) cartridge, overall about 69 cents a copy. As for bigger size photo, I have no use for it. :D If I do, i sent to kedai gambar :)

Use to use Lexmark printers and replace the printer everytime the ink runs out. The ink cost as much as the printer.

Anyway, thanks hhtee for the tips

Franky is WISE!.. all I could say..
Inkjet printers are least expensive at least capital outlay for printing, mostly occasional.
Laserjets are most economical for bulk B&W documents but more expensive outlay.
Printing photos with printer is MOST expensive..kedai gambar is best!.
Can't have all the cake and eat it!... The manufacturer has to profit somewhere..

ya...and for inkjet printers...u will waste a lot of ink if u ever used the head cleaning steps...and for laser printer u will get water proof print...for long run, laser printer will be much cheaper....

as for modified inkjet refills...i use those where u fix external bottles beside ur printer......quality wise...ok...no doubt the colour is not accurate as using the original brand,....but its worth it for me as i'm more concern on the overall printing...

I am still using my old Canon Bubble Jet - BJC-265SP.

It still works ok. Only thing is that it is slow and I have to pull the paper out everytime it finishes printing one page.

sly can you specify what brand you use for the external bottles beside your printer?

I have heard of Brother and Epson. But how does one modify one's printer so that it can consume those bottled inks?

for compatible brand i used colorex...for the external ink systems i send my printer to GOA for them to modify it....its easier coz refilling manually sometimes will coz some air bubbles in ur catridge thus make it not readable by the printer even though it's full....i will PM u the GOA number for u to call them up.....

Speaking of printer inks - Please go to Popular bookstore in Summit.

They are selling generic ink for Epson and Canon at RM6.50 (after the 50% rebates). I think the brand is InkTec...

I'm using it on my Canon IP6000D... so far no problems... :p

Ok.. the offer still stands..to anyone who'd like to have it..self collect.

If you want to give it away - I am willing to take it. I will donate the ink for the printer and HAND IT over to USJ12 Primary school... with your blessing of course. I think the kids and school compute lab can do with another printer :)

If ok with you - I pick it up on Sunday...

I think I'm a bit more sober right now so allow me to clarify more.
The printer got NO Printhead assembly nor cartridges.. ZILCH!..Its just the PRINTER MACHINE + mains cable.
The Printhead + cartridges have to be purchased seperately OR transfer over from another model having the same Printhead to this new one so it'll function more or less like new,
This printer is suitable to replace some older Canon machine model (using the same printhead)that has developed fault or worn down.
Again, The printer is NOT fitted with an integrated printhead, but seperate assembly with replaceble ink cartridges that are still available, if not mistaken.
I hope this clears any confusion.

Just kidding... joking mah... :p

Bro... I guess buying ink cartridges only will not help...

But then again,... if you would be so kind to hold it for a while - will call a contact in Canon (Peremba Square) for help... mebbe I get a printhead - mebbe I get a few (refurbished!) printers for the school.. long time never kacau him :p
