I am thinking of booking a holiday package some time in June/July. Has anybody any recent experience with the place? Is it worth going? (I have heard of many bad reviews previously, ie slow and bad service, poor maintenance, worse-than-hawker quality of food).

I've been to AFamosa 2 years ago. I would say is worth going if you r going on the off peak season which is cheaper. If paid for the normal peak season price, not very worth it  . I book the package during the Matta fair.
We went for the night Carnival and stay over night in the hotel room. For me, is to have the experience on the Carnival and kids will like it. The highlights is the animal parade & the fireworks. Not too bad . We didn't go for the animal safari (thought it may similar to zoo) and the water park(I think Sunway Lagoon is better). You can always go to Malacca town to cari makan first :p We didn't dine in any of the restaurant there as we have filled up our stomach at Malacca town first. Happy holidays :)

It's a nice place to go to. Food however is not cheap if you are picky. Check the below links for places of interest, activities and also places to stay.

The last time i was there, it was work related. We stayed at the Beverly Condo. Rooms there are in good condition and clean. I had 2 double beds, with kitchen, large living area with dining table too. Good for a fml but the weird thing is, both double beds are in the same room. Not much privacy. Views are great.
Food at the Beverly condo isnt too great but palatable. There is a pool also. Cowboy Town has adorable ponies, etc. Fireworks at night are nice.
BTW.. i was there less than 2 mths ago

I hv to say Afamosa resort is a dissapointment.

The D'Savoy condos/apartments are located quite far from the theme parks, u hv to drive out to get anywhere. Though the apartment and rooms are clean, one of the water heater didn't work, the TV reception was poor, n the doorways are not very clean. It is a quiet place though with good view, just make sure u don't get a room facing the construction next door. No POOL at all!

There are no food or beverage outlets in the condo itself, u hv to drive to their Cowboy Town to find restaurants which i believe are expensive. Breakfast is included in the room rate but the food is pathetic! The water park was also not well kept, can't even compare to Sunway Lagoon. But there r less ppl in Afamosa so there is no long queues for any water rides.

It is also a long drive to Melaka town, about 30-45 minutes! And the town is always so packed and jammed during holidays. In a way, its nice to come back to a super quiet apartment in Afamosa after all that buzz in Melaka, if that's any consolation, hahaha.

Their pricing is way too expensive as they charge Peak season rate on weekends n holidays even though the place is so empty. u can get cheaper n nicer accommodation in downtown Melaka but then u don't hv the peace n quiet of this resort. Can't hv it all, i guess.
