My nephew-in-law has been admitted to University Hospital since May 2007 and he's been in ICU since about a week.

He had been getting high fever (40 C) almost nonstop since after CNY and now has liver, kidney and possible lung malfunction.

He's now on white blood cells and red blood cells dripping and has had twice bone marrow extraction to analyse the cause of his condition.

He has been identified by the doctors with "leptospirosis" last week however Doctors are looking for other causes, as he is not responding (well) to antibiotics given to him.

UH has asked us to donate blood to the Universiti Hospital because he is now in critical condition (he had been getting blood transfusion everyday in hospital).

I know this is just asking for your favour so I'd be very very grateful for anyone who can make the time and will to donate their blood for him (to replenish Hospital's blood supplies).

If not, then thank you for taking the time to read this email and please pray for his speedy recovery.

Details:

Patient's Name: Lee Chung Sow (22 yrs old).
Address:

Universiti Hospital
1st Floor (Donation - mention his name when donating)
Jalan Universiti
Petaling Jaya

FYI, you are eligable to donate if (taken from UH card):

- You are in good health today (eg.no flu etc.)
- Age 18 to 60
- Weigh above 45kg
- Had more than 5 hours sleep
- You're free from any medical problems, eg. high blood pressure, heart disease, Diabetes, operation < 6 months, AIDS etc.

- You've not taken any antibiotics in last one week
- You're not pregnant or just delivered
- You're taken breakfast or light lunch before donation
- You are not involved in any of the following activities:
+ Homosexual relationship
+ Bisexual relationship (ie.you + girl and guy)
+ Multiple sexual partners
+ Having sexual contact with the those mentioned above
+ Drug abuse
- You have not donated (blood) in the last 3 months

FYI they will check (ie.a quick and light needle prick your finger/thumb) your blood first before they let you donate.

According to some info on the web, operating hours of the blood bank are:
Monday to Friday 8 - 4:30 pm and Saturday 8 - 12pm.
I'll go myself there 12 o' clock today (lunch time) so if anyone wants to follow me kindly let me know ASAP.
If not today, you may anytime at your convenience donate (eg.Saturdays) as he will still be in hospital (and needing blood).

Do I need to specify his name when donating blood? And try not to go afternoon as they will be busy watching TV (some dramas) and may make some painful errors.

I doubt that specifying name would work.

I donated blood to UM last year i.e. September 2006 ( http://www.usj.com.my/bulletin/upload/showthread.php?t=15309&highlight=blood ) and as mentioned in that thread, I was not allowed to specify who to donate to.

Are you sure specifying names would work ?

Anyone going for Chicken Pie / Muffin (food they serve after donation)? Do donate!

Oh, do note that parking is free

Jokee, I did go and donate last year ( http://www.usj.com.my/bulletin/upload/showthread.php?t=15309&highlight=blood ). I did have chicken pie and milo. For the parking, you have to ask from the nurse who took down your particulars. If you don't ask, they will not give you free parking (business mah ).

What I did was, I said, "Cik Parking Mana Bayar?" (Miss where can I pay my parking tickey?). She replied, "Oh, it's free" and exchanged a special card for me.

I don't know when you went there and how come they didn't serve you chicken pie. Maybe it was during the bird's flu season :D
