The country is slipping - downwards.

It is ranked 23rd (dropped 1 place from 22nd in 2006) in IMD's World Competitiveness Yearbook 2007 (http://www.imd.ch/research/publications/wcy/upload/scoreboard.pdf)

The top 3 for 2007: (1) USA (2) Singapore (3) Hong Kong

And the big surprise - Mainland China made it into the top 20 this year at 15th place in the 2007 survey.

See where the competition is coming from?

And India is ranked 27th this year. It won't be long before it catches up or does better than Malaysia, if Malaysia continues along its present path.

The four factors of competitiveness used in the survey are:

- Economic Performance
- Govt Efficiency
- Business Efficiency
- Infrastructure

According to the Spore Business Times (http://business-times.asia1.com.sg) today, Spore ranked first in govt efficiency, and was ranked in the top 5 for each of the other 3 factors.

I am just waiting to see how the Msian govt will explain these latest rankings.

Semua ok?

They are using different methodology to calculate the competitiveness, so the govt needs some time to look at it and study in further depth. The govt can hire some consultants/experts to come up with a more suitable ranking.

Dont worry, we are still ahead of Tanzania, Congo and Zimbabwe.

How can we see how Malaysia was rated for each of the factor? I am sure we will get low marks for Govt Efficiency and Infrastructure?

sir, I think our gomen will these few days come up with defences like,

a) the methodology they used is wrong
b) this was not taken into account for, that was not taken into account for
c) the survey was bias
d) the sample size selected was too small
e) the instruments used in measuring the responses were wrong

Semuanya NOT OK

As I kind of expected - a deafening silence in the local media.

I suspect that the govt doesn't quite know how to "spin" the fact that Msia went from 22nd in 2006 to 23rd in 2007, out of 55 economies, in the IMD competitiveness rankings.

Or how Mainland China came from nowhere to 15th position in 2007?

Maybe Tony Pua will be able to do another commentary on this for the NST?

Or maybe PM Lee will let Pak Lah in on the secret of Spore's 2nd placing during their Langkawi tete-a-tete? :D

One thing is for sure - the PAP MPs don't make sexist comments in the Spore Parliament. Breeding tells!!!!!!!!!!

One of the reason we are slipping down when even people like this think it is ok for Maybank to do what they did cos they go by population percentage

http://kadirjasin.blogspot.com/

Fair to all???

Maybe the chinese and indians should use percentage of world population to claim contracts from other countries including Malaysia?

Malaysian will continue going down until they realise that in the global world it is about competing with the best you have and not based on religion or race.
