Hi,
Do you guys know that there are DVD players that can play divx *.avi movile files. It's video quality is as good as DVD.

I have not bought DVD for a very long time since I have bought this player. It's available in TESCO Puchong.

I have seen some movies that I have downloaded from internet like An Inconvenient Truth, Borat, Babel, Letters from Iwo Jima etc....

When I bought my DVD player, I made sure it has DIVX. The one I got had DIVX6. The reason was because my brother burned some DIVX movies for my kids so that was the only way to view them besides running it on the computer.

DIVX is actually a compression technology like jpeg for pictures or MPEG for video CDs. If I am not wrong, DIVX is good for compressing DVDs. Try downloading a DVD off the net - I can't imagine people having that amount of time to do it. This is where DIVX comes in.

You might be surprise KWChang, most of my friend are downloading these movies from the net especially the miniseries like Desperate Housewives, Grey Anatomy, Smallville and many more.

The only brand I know having that is the Samsung DVD player that can play DIVX which can be purchase at RM199 in Tesco (the last time I check).

I got the Pioneer 393 - that's the one with DIVX6. Shopped around the electrical outlets in Taipan and got a good bargain from one of them.

what kwchange meant was that divx provides compression and most ppl will download it as 700mb .avi files instead of the whole dvd which would be around 4.3gb.

Chang, any idea whether i could flash the 383 to include the DivX v6 from v5? When learnt 393 came out....my heart dropped as i have just gotten the 383 just few months earlier. Any idea what is the product life cycle?

Sorry, didn't know you could flash ROM updates. Anyway, unless you are downloading DivX6 media, it shouldn't be a great problem to continue using the 383. I'm just a layman user hence I wouldn't hack around the machine ;)

Noted. Thanks for clearing the one Jianwei. Was reading his post very fast and didn't catch the meaning at first.
