My problems is Windows Media Player v9 can't locate the movie file in the VCD. Solutions anyone? What plug in or codec should I use ?

Thank you.

The movie file is in the MPEG folder. Just use your WMP to open file, browse to the MPEG folder in your VCD and play the file with extension *.dat

You said VCD ... inside Mpeg folder, it should be *.dat..... if not, just play the file inside that folder.... or else, just install software like Cyberlink powerdvd and you can watch your VCD without hassle. ;)

if its VCD movie files are supposed to be in *.dat format..
what folders and files do you see?
are you sure its a VCD and not a CD-R with an AVI coded in DIVX/XVID format?

or possibly some corrupted VCD?

try downloading this.. K-lite mega codec pack 1.71 (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm)

it has 99% of all major codecs released..

What is CDA?
CD Audio (.cda) tracks are audio files that can be stored on CD media. The .cda files are representations of CD audio tracks and do not contain the actual pulse code modulation (PCM) information. Cda files can be played only from a CD-ROM. To test a .cda file, either try to play a different .cda file from your CD-ROM or try to play a .cda file from a different CD-ROM. Copied from the CD-ROM to the hard disc it cannot be played. This is format used for encoding music on all commercial compact discs. If you buy a CD from a store, the music on that CD is stored in CDA format.
The current standard for CD audio requires a sampling rate of 44.1 kHz and a sample size of 16 bits (2 bytes per sample). As a result, you need to store 2 x 44,100= 88,200 bytes of data every second to record in mono. Recording in stereo would require twice that much storage. That extrapolates to about 10 MB of data for every minute of stereo sound! It is for this reason that compression schemes such as MP3 are so important.

Unfortunately, your computer can't store files in CDA format, so you still have to convert CDA files to another format to store on your hard disk.

Combined Community Codec Pack. Inside it has things like Zplayer (very good video/audio player), MPC (simplified version of WMP) and tons of codec.
Site: http://www.cccp-project.net/

Or try downloading VLC media player. Plays most... everything you want really hahaha. Its the swiss army knife for videos. Gotta have it if your STRAIGHT *wink wink =P*
Site: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Take Note: VLC requires a lot of CPU power. So if your using Pentium 3 then it might lag when your using it. But, video doesnt lag so yippi =P. Pentium 4 pcs wont have any problem. Its a very good player and a must have! :)

Edit: Topic started at 18 april, now its 22 april haha so slow sry :o

The problems now is the VCD can't be played on DVD burner but can be played on normal DVD player.

ungkb, if you see only CDA files (as in Track01.cda, etc), it is not a VCD in the first place. It's an Audio CD. Obviously you can't play it like a VCD in any CD or DVD drive. You will only hear sound/music from this kind of disk.

A normal VCD has these folders: -
VCD
SEGMENT
MPEGAV
EXT
CDI

Inside the MPEGAV folder, you will find the actual movie files, named AVSEQ01.DAT and so forth.
