I've signed up for Celcom 3G 120 Unlimited for my work and was slapped with a bill of RM1200 (yes, RM120 unlimited charge plus an extra zero) for my 2nd month's bill. Apparently, I was charged for downloading as well. I think that it's pretty unfair and would like to know if anyone here experienced the same and has some advice.

FYI, I'm using a PCMIA card for my laptop. As I travel very often and need the connectivity, I would also appreciate some advice on what I should sign up for.

Am thinking of terminating the service. Bloody rip-off.

Could the charges be some kind of deposit or the cost of 3G modem? You never confirm the charges before signing up?

me company using the maxis 3G pcmcia card
so far no extra charges for the downloading, every month is a fixed rate of RM120.
Except the first month's bill which are billed together with the price of the PCMCIA card, which cost a thousand over.

You must have signed up for their RM999 get modem and free 6 months 3G deal. They were offering it for quite awhile last year. The rates are still RM120 a month but you have to fork out RM1k+ up front for the modem and set-up.

Birdy, I paid RM1388 for the blinking Huawei PCMIA card so there's no deposit involved.

Kress, yes, I know downloads are chargeable...but they should at least give an idea of how much....to laymen like me.

Greyshadow, how's Maxis? Is the service reliable and do you have a 24 mth contract period?

Mlkok, I signed up for their RM120 Unlimited package deal and not the RM999 deal.

Hope that answers everyone's questions...and thanks for the feedback.

I would think RM120 for unlimited access should be 'unlimited' regardless of download volumes.

The only logical explanation is that you could be downloading stuff off these commercial sites which actually charge for the items downloaded such as ringtones and music.

If you accessed the Internet (like getting emails and browsing our usj dot com forums), then it would be not be chargeable - am I right Orchi?

By the way, if you were travelling overseas and you were on roaming, then there will be charges even if you just browsed the internet.

What's the point of having unlimited connection if they charge for downloads. Is browsing considered as download? If they define download as each byte of data transferred to your computer that'd be robbery. My last month streamyx usage was about 6GB (upload/download), I wonder how much that would cost me if I've been using celcom. Time to complain to MCMC.

Please read what I have posted above - that may answer your questions. Please note that commercial sites do charge for downloads regardless but not the telco (eg Maxis)

Have TS contacted Celcom's customer service for explanation?

I'm using Celcom 3G now and also subscribe to unlimited RM120/month for the past 6 months.

Normal usage for browsing, emailing and downloading as well. So far, there's no extra charge.

Are you downloading anything from commercial sites like ringtones, wallpapers etc?

For the 3G with datacard, regardless of which telco you go with, the datacard is not free. The monthly charge is RM120. Celcom, Maxis n Digi is the same. It's the datacard that will cost you > RM1k. So if you did not pay up front, be assured that it will hit you somewhere down the road.

Were you out of the country & accessing 3G, that is a pain in billing FYI they charge you seperately.

Anyway, regardless of all the possibilities, I guess by now you should have called the centre and clarified things since you doubted the bill.
