I was already informed of the following by a "senior" Lick Hung parents:

1) Expect at least 10-14 homework per day esp after mid-year for Std 1
2) Expect to have extra classes sessions: 2-extra days at Std 4, 3 days at Std 5 and everyday at Std 6 - wow !!
3) Expect to go to bed by 10-11pm and doing homework
4) Expect to have homeworks worth more than 1 month for 2 weeks holidays
5) Expect to RELAX only in Form 1 (in another school !!) :p :pWhat!? This is madness! Unbelievable! How can children go through so much...what's the word...toil (?) during their childhood?!. Childhood is supposed to be a time to learn and to enjoy discovering the world but in this case, it's just the former! :( :p

That depends whether they're in Chinese school or Sekolah Kebangsaan! :p

Are we subjecting our children to too much pressure?

In Asia, definitely 'TOO MUCH PRESSURE'

But it's just the opposite here in Oz.

Yes, we are.

Which is better, that pays more dividends in the future? To be educated in an English medium school, BM, Chinese or Tamil?

Naka
18-12-2009, 03:04 PM
I believe to be educated in English and Chinese has a better chance in life.
You can do a lot more with such education worldwide and a lot of ah moh are sending their kids to study Mandarin in mainland China & here they have Chinese as a subject in their high schools too & you can score on this subject to go into Uni.

Based on both wifey and my own judgement - we feel that the discipline, work ethics, mathematical foundation and languages are the key foundations we seek from Lick Hung (not so much as scoring 100%, first in class, 7As etc - those will be bonuses ) as we don't have too much confident in Sek Keb to provide that level of robust foundations. After that, we are confident, the boys will be in solid "frame of mind" to tackle any challenges in any sort of education systems in any country.

type of school is very personal and up to individual preference. there is no ideal or perfect answer. i better not saying anything here.

in your view, what is the ideal family size?

Naka
19-12-2009, 03:23 PM
Depends where you are.

Certain local tribe here prefer numerious offsprings and the goman pay them by the numbers....the more offsprings you have the more $$$$ you get...read 1 family was paid A$2,000/= weekly until they are adults....Y want to work

holy gracious! mama-mia! i am stunned....what is the motivation to work then? luckily OZ is rich with its natural resources and high tax system.

3 things came to mind:-

Because, your body is in a state of shock and complaining ..."what's all these foreign matters" (by the CL) + the fact that you wake up now & again at night + your boy going to school ( u were more worried than him)

Boring question,,,Next question.Boring question? No, it isn't, Naka. A lot of people are being bullied everyday. In the classroom, in the work place, in bars, restaurants, in forums, etc. We should not close our eyes and hope the bullies will go away. We need to put these bullies in their place, so says a friend of mine. The tricky thing is, how do we do that? OK, it's not exactly all that tricky. I did say one of the best solutions is to ignore them completely. Your lack of response may frustrate them so much that they would start hitting their heads against the wall just to get you out of their minds! :p The other effective method is perfectly demonstrated in the movie, 17 Again starring Zac Efron. Watch the movie and find out how it is done. :p

Don't think it's the "confinement" food that's causing you to lose weight. I attribute it to your "confrontations" with Lick Hung's principal (a stress-inducing activity), waking up extremely early to get your son ready for school..what else...running here and there...remember the week your wife gave birth, you were here, there, everywhere?...having to entertain the in-laws, "fighting" with the confinement lady...maybe a few other stress-inducing activities which you failed to mention. So, there you go. :D

the true colours of a person will be revealed if he/she is playing for more than 5 years. Why 5 hours? it's difficult to pretend or disguise under such long hours. Some parents will evaluate future son-in-law on mahjong table. i heard the same applies on golf game and the japs will invite u 4 a round of golf before making a deal.

Langkawi -lah :D For me, my personal favourite hotel is the grand old lady - PELANGI - near to the hustle and bustle but within its compund it is peaceful, beach is nice and sandy, service is ok, good food outside, decent restaurants etc etc ... The more secluded ones like Datai and Andaman, not bad also ... but be warned, very secluded and driving at night can be a bit harrowing - winding roads with no lightings as it is in a forest reserve, and for me - Facilities - very good... BUT food is DAMN expensive, and not worth it at all - thus, PELANGI better bet IMHO.

It is not humid just searing hot at midday - it is what the Malay called "BAHANG" - something like "oven cook " The Pelangi staff used to tell me go to the beach/open from 6am till 11am - then stay away until 4pm - unless you want to get cooked lobster style i.e. sunburned badly like the quoi-loh - so from 12-4pm, they recommend, we go sight-seeing, shopping, etc etc ... of course, they will never tell the guests that unless you ask them .....

I didn't like what I saw but didn't feel threatened, though. 20-15 years ago, one could hardly see foreign workers manning the stalls, only locals but now it's completely the opposite.

Why are foreign workers so much in demand these days?

Naka
03-01-2010, 03:52 PM
Simply because they are cheap and hard working, shopkeepers like to sit at the tills & collect $$$ only.

same question

QuietStorm
03-01-2010, 03:55 PM
I agree with your sentiments.

In some instances, I have noticed stalls are completely manned by foreign workers, meaning they even act as cashiers. Seems the bosses concerned have complete faith in the workers' honesty. What are your thoughts on this?

Naka
03-01-2010, 04:06 PM
In Sabah, a lot of Philippinas married Chinese boys & they are hard working and can speak Hakka better than me.

In the Hainan Coffee Shops, foreigners make Tau sah Bao & all the baos in the coffee shops.

They are good.

Two schools of thought here. Firstly, never trust your hard-earned money with anyone especially people you do not know well. Secondly, only handle your own cash yourself, just to be sure. hehehehehe ... :p:p :D
