Orchi, I have been to this particular place, sometime back in 1999 when I first got transferred to KL back from Penang. Good of you to bring the case of this place up here in the forum. Right now, as u are probably aware, I'm recovering myself from a minor illness, hopefully when I am okay I want to do something about it. Definitely....

Can someone please volunteer to manage a shopping list? I don't want to be the one contributing their 600th bottle of cooking oil...

I was there to send some stuff just before Chinese New Year. And yes, this place definitely needs alot of help.

And Mr. Sentinel, tried to send you a message but your mail box is full. Will be in Penang next week and thought of dropping by to offer my "apologies" for doing my SUPERMANS on you - up, up, up and away! :o

I was there to send some stuff just before Chinese New Year. And yes, this place definitely needs alot of help.Err dear buddy...many thanks for your continuous support...

Presently...out of 138 under-privileged children n teens...many of the physically challenged younger children...can neither stand on their own two feet...nor can they walk...n many are not capable of proper speech.

Most are dependent on constant attention n assistance from the staffs...for their daily bathing...grooming...feeding n other necessary routines.

The centre is currently appealing for more supporters n contributors...especially on their requirement of the above mentioned.

Take for few examples...amongst the sundries items...

Rice...EACH MONTH the centre would require about 1,200 Kilos(1.2 tons) of Rice...
400 tins of Sardines...
Over 100 Kilos of Potatoes...
60 Kilos of Dhal...
Over 80 Kilos of Milk Powder...
60 Kilos of Sugar...
Over 90 tins of condensed milk...
150 bars of soap...
120 bottles of Shampoo...
400 Kilos of Washing powder detergent...
10 Bundles of Diapers...etc etc etc.

n Over 100 Kilos of Cooking oil...

Oh btw...just a note to remember...most of the occupants of The Home...are vegetarians.

Once you are up n running...lets work towards bringing some cheers to The Home for disabled at Taman Megah...

When one is there...a simple touch brings about enormous smiles on the kids' faces...a handshake binds a lasting friendship with them...a hug offers emotional comfort for them...

n a caring gesture showers warmth on each n everyone of them...

my company had went there and donate items to them a few months back. Indeed they need a lot of stuff. But for a few hours that I am there, they are a lot of people coming and dropping of items.

My company even bought them KFC and all of them really enjoyed it. We even organize contest for the children and even give them gifts, essential items and etc.

Go there, what the children really needs is someone to play with them. You can actually watch them performs various dances. Even they will teach you to play this game 'Who let the dogs out..woof woof woof'. My colleagues being bullied by them with this game.

Even some of my colleagues cried when saw the condition of a kid. Its not nice for me to mention it here, go there and witness yourself. You will be touched.

"The late Manikumar Kanan, 44, a registered disabled person, founded Pusat Penjagaan Kanak-Kanak Cacat Taman Megah 10 years ago. From four kids, the centre now has 138 residents, and during his life, Manikumar was the director, manager, fund-raiser and van driver for the centre.

...Manikumar was driven to open his centre after seeing the situation of the disabled first-hand when he himself volunteered at a home for the mentally and physically challenged. Tragically, he passed on in April last year during a trip to raise funds for his special needs children."

Err buddies...The Sun mentioned in their newspaper early this year...the name of the late Mr. Manikumar Kanan...n the Home...

Indeed...he was one of the FEW True Towering Malaysians... (http://www.sun2surf.com/article.cfm?id=16806)
