I was at Amcorp Mall, just this past Sunday. There was a table with officers there taking in registration of E-filing.
I registered, very simple, show Mykad, fill name and IC no..they fill in your file number and PIN number on the form. You take back home the form, logon to the security website https://ef.hasil.org.my and using the given pin number, logon to your account and follow the instructions to submit your form.

EASY!..done it!..

A question or two here, initially posed by a friend, which I can't for the likes of me answer !

The person is not employed but is deriving income from rental properties. Has not received the form by mail this year despite updating new addie last year. So, is form B or BE required ? What's the difference (apart from the deadline!) ?

Thanks, all.

They have a stall set up at Subang Parade, next to the MPH. But the staff stationed there is only interested in promoting e-filing of taxes, not help you with your taxes. :(

borang B for is business income (usually income tax file start with OG-xxx) whereas Borang BE is for employment income (SG-xxx). For rental income both forms also cater for rental income. I suggest the person submit the same kind of form he submits every year previously (since he is unemployed now) be it Borang B or Borang BE.

Does anyone know if e-filing can be done using Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. Tried the IE (version 6) and it cannot go beyond the part where I have 'PIN VERIFIED' and then fill in personal information and then click 'I Agree' to the terms and conditions. Of course I tried calling the help line and you can guess it : 'All our consultants are busy ......" and they don't put you in a queue but then kill the line.

CALVINHOBBES, you will have to use IE as they require you to install an ActiveX control to choose and verify your digital cert.

Yeah, I did use IE version 6 but cannot go beyond the steps I mentioned above. Downloaded the manual on what to do from the LHDN website, followed all instructions but still stuck.

1. Disable or lower the security settings TEMPORILY in this case. Goto Internet Options/ Security tab / Trusted Sites = Low
(This is absolutely neccessary if using IE7 (for those who've upgraded)

2. Disable the pop-up blocker. Internet Options / Privacy = uncheck box

It should now work (almost flawlessly). Hope that helps and good luck!. ;)

When all finished, reset or revert to previous settings to for default protection. IE7 is quite fussy and the whole process will be problematic if my suggestion above is not followed...other than that..the process is a sail through..

I think I did try with Firefox but somewhat unsuccessful..perhaps some settings need to be tweaked like above..nevertheless..I didn't want to waste time and finished the task with IE7.

I have "e" already and they stop sending me the form. So no choice but to continue "e".

When is the deadline?
I was told 30 April 2007

Saw the booth at Subang Parade in front of Mother Care. No queue yet. Got my pin number there as well.

Extract from LHDN website (https://ef.hasil.org.my/english/files/info.asp)

Effective from Year Of Assessment 2006, a PIN Number is given together with the annual Tax Return (B/BE) sent to taxpayers.

If Form B/BE 2006 is not received by 15.3.2007, kindly please notify the nearest LHDNM Branch Office for verification and issuance of PIN Number. You may also call our Customer Service Centre at 1-300-88-3010 for assistance.

I guess if you do not have your form by now, you are being "pressured" to go get a PIN number to do e-filing or get a blank form from their office.

Saw on NTV7 news this evening, the deputy DG of IRB was giving some dumb excuse on why the e-filing system was not working as planned. As if they planned. If a small number of users hitting them can bring the whole system down, they must have hired some half-baked people to do the job. If systems on a much larger scale (i.e. banking systems of global banks) for years, this should not be happening.

If I am not wrong, I believe IRB does not issue Form J anymore. Once you send in your forms (or e-filing), it's a done deal and you just pay whatever is due on your form. No notice will be sent to you.

actually under the new self assessment system, the borang BE is deemed assessed upon submission, hence Form J is now no longer sent by IRB and already phased out.

Hi,

Just to answer some of the questions here:

Does anyone know if e-filing can be done using Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. Tried the IE (version 6) Yes must use Internet Explorer V5.0 and above. Currently you can also only use Windows XP/Windows 2000 to do your submission

Anyone has any idea whether do we still need to register to get the Pin if one has done e-filling last year and still possessed the same pin? The PIN that you used last year is no longer valid. If you used the e-Filing last year and you still have the certificate, then you can reuse the certificate.
You do not need to register for a PIN...every Tax Payer has been assigned one. If you have not received your PIN number, then try writing to the callcentre@hasil.org.my and pass them your IC, Name and Tax File number.
They should reply back with the PIN number for you.

Working Paper 4 or HK-4 (income from property rental)
No. You do not need to submit this, but file it away if you have filled it out. The only document that you need to submit is the HK-3 (dividends).

I did e-filling last year and I was told to get a new pin
That is correct, the old PIN has been changed this year. But if you have your old certificate then you can still you that.

If I am not wrong, I believe IRB does not issue Form J anymore Yes you are correct. The IRB stopped issuing the Form J when the Self Assessment started back in 2004.

borang B for is business income (usually income tax file start with OG-xxx) whereas Borang BE is for employment income (SG-xxx). For rental income both forms also cater for rental income. I suggest the person submit the same kind of form he submits every year previously (since he is unemployed now) be it Borang B or Borang BE.
It is not necessarily correct that you should simply use the same form as last year.

I do not want to confuse the situation, but the key thing in selecting the form is to determine whether or not you have received BUSINESS income.

Even though both forms cater for rental you should not automatically assume that you should fill in that box. You need to determine whether your rental is viewed by the IRB as a BUSINESS or not.

For information

In case you encounter "Run-time Error 5 - Invalid Procedure Call or Argument" once you login with your Digicert, the solution is to make sure that the language setting on your computer is set to English. The setting can be changed at Control Panel->Regional and Language Options.

Hi all,

I seem to have problem downloading Active X control. When I click on "ActiveX Control" at https://ef.hasil.org.my/English/index.asp#, it says:

Sila pasang ActiveX dengan klik kotak kuning di atas dan pilih 'Install ActiveX Control...' sebagaimana gambar di bawah.

But there's no kotak kuning and the only thing clickable is the "keluar" button.

So, I went to https://ef.hasil.org.my/English/files/e-borang.asp# and tried downloading from there. This time, it's "the page cannot be found".

I tried from 3 different PCs and the results are the same. Can anyone help?

Tried calling LHDN for assistance. Big surprise, can't get through  E-filling is supposed to make things easier, right? Then how come it's giving me headache

I seem to have problem downloading Active X control...I hope you are doing the online income tax returns using Internet Explorer (IE) because I remember that it does not work with Firefox.

When you use IE, activeX should be there - why is there a need to 'download'? If activeX is disabled, just go in to
> tools > internet options > security > custom level
and then proceed to activate the relevant activeX options.

Yes, I'm using IE but according to the LHDN site, "ActiveX has not been installed. Click OK to download and install ActiveX now" Tried your suggestion but LHDN still insists "ActiveX has not been installed."

Because you are not following the advice given here... You need to install the Active X controls to enable the browser to download the certs and controls for the e-form.

Look up on your browser, see/click TOOL>>followed by INTERNET OPTIONS see the TABS, select the SECURITY tab, click/select the CUSTOM LEVEL and scroll down to the ACTIVE X CONTROLS and PLUG-INS... select the relevant ACTIVE X functions... then refresh/restart your browser...

Alternatively, take two Panadols and drive over to nearest LHDN office, and drop your returns in the box provided... :p

No more headache...

Actually, once you get passed this phase. The you will find that it easier to do. Unfortunately, this is one aspect of the whole e-Filing process that they still need to do some work on.

Hi,

Try calling 03-89962600 for assistance. This is Digicert, the vendor for the E-Filling application. Not sure whether it is a general line or direct line but the person that picked up my call definitely have good technical knowledge on the application.

Don't bother to contact LHDN for technical assistance since they don't have any idea at all on the technical aspects of the E-Filling.

I would dare say the problem is in IE7. I had installed IE7 in my office PC and it could not go beyond the first startup. Somehow the security features in IE7 are screwed on too tight. Finally uninstalled IE7 and now working nicely with IE6.

Microsoft is screwed, period. Altho the Office series is great, they hadn't sorted out Windows or IE at all. I heard that Vista is still buggy and if you browsed the internet, you'd find that a lot of people have removed IE7 after trying it.

Kwchang,

I tend to differ on your observation, IE7 is working fine on the e-filling cos I'm using it. Earlier I have had problem but the cause has been identified due to the language setting on the regional & language setting. It caused a 'Run-time Error 5 - Invalid Procedure Call or Argument'. Once the language is set to English, the problem is solved.

Goodness, all these negatives replies here worries and confused me. I have a low end pc at home, window ME, can't upgrade to window XP.
Registered e filing two weeks ago at a mall and got a pin number, but now am just too chickened to file my tax via e.
