I used to own a Lite-On CD-burner and it performed well, so I upgraded to a Lite-on DVD-burner naturally. But I find the build quality not as good and the burning performance not so reliable.

Suggest that you try out a Sony as I heard some good things about it.

The LG DVD burner is selling at RM130 in Sunway. I think Lite On DVD burner should be around that price too.... won't be far off.

You can consider Imation DVD burner as well...price is more or less the same with LG DVD. It is well known that Sony DVD burner is very sensitive to disc.. so, think twice if u want to get Sony DVD. :p

Normal consumer brands like LG, Samsung, BenQ, Lite-on etc. most likely last 1-2 yrs on average use.

For heavy duty user, recommend brands like HP, Yamaha or Plextor. Durable but also expensive compared to the abovementioned.

Oops :o , the price should be RM129 for the 20x Lite-on. And the LG speed was 18x.

Ya, prices are dropping. I bought my Lite-on for RM150 some months back.
Saw a new product - a SATA DVD-writer from Panasonic for RM159 instead of the normal IDE types.

Too late for my input now but I agree with scorgio. The really cheap brands don't last. Worst of the group is Sony. Lifespan is just 13 months. Benq, LG and the likes are the same even if it's just use for reading, they fail around the same time. As for those fantastic speed demons...(movie DVD don't work above the 2X burn speed, for me) Also the increase in speed give plenty of error. Just don't understand why those companies come out with such unreliable products??

On the other hand, have a HP and it's still running after 4 years. Paid an arm and a foot for it but have been serving me well since.

i use the Ben Q dvd burner for 2 years and i think its really good. It can play any cd/dvd and isn't sensitive. Can try it since its price are in the lower range of the other burner.

I use the LG brand as it has been working out well for me.
It is bulletproof.

I burn 800 disc each disc is about 3gig and have got no problems whatsoever,
still going strong after 12 mths.

HP DVD Burners are really good, not that others aren't.
So far, the HP burner I have doesn't give me any headache as compared to the previous Samsung burner and Imation.
