i wuz wonderin if anybody has joined this book club.... n wat iz ur experience?
bookcrossin is defined as: d practice of leaving a book in a public place to be picked up n read by others, who then do likewise (oxford concise dictionary)
basically u read a bk, then u register it at d bookcrossin website, n tn u release it 2b found.... n d nx person who findz it n readz it, will do d same.... u may oso find other bookz hav been released by otherz....
they claim to be d world'z biggest free book club.... hmm....

i know there is a bookcrossing unofficial club of sorts here, they have a yahoo group and they meet up in places like amcorp to exchange books and stuff. i'm not sure if they're still active because i unsubscribed from the mailing list a year ago.
i like the concept, but i think it's very impractical in malaysia because the people here are generally not readers and will not appreciate the value of a free book just because they may not like the topic. i'd rather donate to the library.

hmm.... yup, i agree dat it iz an interestin concept. i guez unless ppl r actually lookin 4 d bookz dat r released, they may be left 'unfound' n unread.... hmm....
recently, when i went 2 kashmir, i stayed in a boathouse, n read some bookz dat were left there by someone fr UK.... d houseboat owner told me dat a lotta ppl who stay there leave there bookz there after readin them... he requested 4 bkz fr msia nx time if i go bk there again.... he said ppl 'borrow' d bookz as well 2 read as they continue their journey, eg on d plane, etc... soundz like bookcrossin to me.... hehe.... ;)

How does this site work? I visited the website and saw tonnes of books but I can't open to read the book? Anyone can share with me? Is this more for informing books in the market only or basically it is a ebook sharing sites?

it doesn't happen often, but every now and then i get emails from bookcrossing showing the latest books released in the wild around kl. if you go to the bookcrossing website you can even see people leaving books in places like penang and other states.

Knowing Malaysians, when they do come across any books left behind, they will probably sell them at a second hand book-stores.

yup, unfortunatelly, dat iz msian mentality 4 u.... perhapz dat iz y bookcrossin clubz where memberz do meet up n exchange bkz mayb more practical here.... alternatively, a particular place where such memberz 'release' or 'find' their bookz.... like a cafe of some sort.... ;)
