CIMB is embarking on a new corporate image and the bank recently set up a department called CSR (Corprate Social Responsibilty) which is headed by their Vice President Mr Johnny Yong. He got in touch with the USJ Residents Association expressing their interest to fund community projects which are beneficial to our community. He and his colleague Ms Radhika were with us at Dato Lee' s Chinese New Year dinner on Tuesday night where we learned about their bank's direction. One thing that drew him here is that our community is very active in community activities. Our recent activities like the launch of the unique SJ Alert, the Balik kampung campaign etc etc seem to be their interest but this is only one aspect they are looking at. Johnny would want to meet our community tomorrow night at our regular teh tarik session (which also tarik his interest) to explore which other areas CIMB bank can work with us in terms of providing funding and other resources. They admire our spirit and enthusiasm. Those who can help to brainstorm (please think of any community project we want to embark on) and be there from 9pm onwards.

Time: 9.00pm onwards
Date: Friday 2 March 2007
Venue: Syed Bistro near Metro Bus Depot (our usual TT joint)

All are welcome

and make sure their ATM cards can be used overseas. Bank of the year but can withdraw money when traveling like other non bank of the year!

However it is a good the bank is looking at community projects. Salute CIMB. Maybe a project to help orphans with a computer lab etc in SJ area.

A very noble way to market their bank ..do wish other banks and financial institutions too follow suit and come out with some bright ideas to help out our community and in other areas too.

what happened to the proposed 100 cctv project for subang as announced by LHB a year ago? how abt reviving this project with cimb?
this cctv project can work on 2 fronts - provide real-time traffic info in subang and adjacent areas; and to act as an integrated 'eye' in crime prevention and sjalert efforts. then beam the images onto usj.com.my with a suitable platform for web and pda usage. cimb will hv to sponsor the monitoring and maintenance centre, probable ideal location can be the new usj balai?

I have one really good suggestion - CIMB should sponsor the building of pedestrian bridges for schools and they can then put up their CIMB signages on the bridge forever. Let us start with the SMK-USJ12 school where kids dice with danger everyday crossing between USJ12 and USJ11 - Jln Tujuan there is really dangerous as cars speed past the school junction.

I'd like to suggest this - CIMB could consider sponsoring self-defense classes eg aikido, taekwondo, or even swimming or reading lessons for our youngsters. I'd love to attend the session but unable due to prior committments but nevertheless will try.

Security is another area so if CIMB could work with us with the police like sponsoring more police pondoks in strategic locations - may help to deter potential crime from occuring.

How about offering internships to students, or sponsoring an "open doors" program so people can see what the jobs are like.

In Canada there is a "take your child to work" day which I think would be interesting here, so Malaysian children can get an idea of what the working world can be like. CIMB could sponsor a program in the local schools.

BTW, I think the idea of a TT session to flesh out ideas is great. When I use special discussions in my teaching, I now call them TT sessions

Cheers, m

This suggestion from Chang is the most important one and should be on the top of the list. Not only the secondary students are in danger, I have seen primary students from USJ11 walking to SK USJ12 in the mornings and the afternoons for sports/co-curicullum practices.

Sorry to digress, this is nothing new in Malaysia. Although uncommon in MNCs, most of the GLCs practice this to a certain extent. Saturdays used to be "bring your child(ren) and let your colleagues fuss over them" day.

Any of you whose's a PTA committee member in SMK USJ12 can help arrange a meeting for me to explore the possibility of design and built an overhead bridge.

Welcome Johnny since this is your first post.

A pedestrian overhead bridge will be built eventually but there is an argument where this bridge will be sited. As part of the agreement with the developers of Subang Heights and SIME UEP for MPSJ to allow them to build a flyover at KESAS to bring all the traffic from Shah Alam/Subang Hitech into USJ, they have to foot the cost of the RM 500,000 bridge. But they want to locate the bridge at Persiaran Setia connecting USJ 4 and USJ 12 (more relevant to their cause) but everybody felt that it should be where Chang has suggested - across the busy killer stretch Jalan Tujuan connecting USJ 11 and USJ 12. There is also another party who is responsibile to build pedestrian bridges here and that is Signage Incorporated. They were awarded a 15 years advertising rights (notice all billboards have their names on them) in MPSJ district in return for building 20 bridges. If I am not wrong, so far they have done NOTHING and it has been more than 5 years already. All the bridges you see here are either built by the shopping complexes (Carrefour and Summit) or by MPSJ when they widened the Jalan Tujuan (SK Sri Selangor at USJ 4) and Jalan Kewajipan roads (at 3K Sport Complex ) So I believe you may have to strike a deal with Signage Inc with a 'you scratch my back, I scratch yours' but you have to 'jaga your back.'
