I am a M'sian and this is my country.

Bumiputra status...like warrants - should be a priviledge to exercise, not an obligation, and may the right minded person exercise it carefully. It comes with expiry date. Not for-ever.

Please enlighten me on the term "Bumiputra". I have always understood it as being the orang aslis and indigeneous people. Sabahan I know for sure are called Bumiputras regardless of what their religion is. When exactly did the Malays start calling themselves bumiputras.

I really want to know...maybe someone can share and we can all learn together...

Why are we going down this road again?

Its like knowing the earth is round, yet question why it isn't square.

Its like sprinkling salt into an open wound and asking does it hurt? how much does it hurt? are you coping well with the pain?

Its like pondering on the chicken and the egg story till the cows come home or the monkeys get sent to the banana plantation.

It is what it is. And for it to stop being as it is, it just takes an X in the right box at the right time.

If you can't wait till the cows come home then either move to another farm or make the best out of the one you are in, patiently X ticking the right box each time the box comes round.

No point crowing too loudly for no reason lest you get hauled to the slaughterhouse but always be vigilant and keep your ears to the ground and your eyes peeled to the horizon.

But most of all remember to educate the young ones in the ways of the world as it is in the farm you are in so that they always strive to be the best they can and to do the best they can.

Here or elsewhere.

I must congratulate Vixey for hitting your heads with the mallet.
Next time I will open the plantation least some other outsider bring in hammers to crack some skulls...I won't like to see that day.

Please be reminded that while I allow for some leeway in other threads, it does not mean I will allow all and sundry to turn this Forum into a political battleground.

Like Vixey said, we all know the sore points. No need to keep rubbing salt lah ... unless those who constantly do it are masochists.

I am getting a bit jelat with all these grumblings. As if we do not have enough bad news in the newspapers. Hey, come on lah, fellas, try to post something positive and cheery. If nothing much excites you, please try the telly and I do not mean watching the news, go to the Sports channel or National Geographic.

Personally, I think I have a valid question and I don't deserve to have my head hit or whatever. My question is not politically motivated. I just want an answer because I mentioned to my children that during my school days there was no such race as bumiputra and they wanted to know when it came about. I don't have the answer and usually yr forum comes up with answers pretty fast or so I thought till now.

I thought the well learned members here can enlighten me but if it is a taboo subject here then do tell me where to go to find the answer.

Actually, we were hitting the heads of the first 2 posts - Patwon and Munity. Yes I agree you have a valid question. However, please be very clear with your question. Your recent explanation was very clear and I can see why you asked that question. However, you were not clear in your original query - hence it gets lumped with the political motives of the first 2 posts.

Taboo subject? Well, this website had an original goal and that was to develop the culture of responsible and accountable commentators in our Forum. We still have this goal. Hence you will see that we remind people about touching on sensitive issues behind their masks - that is irresponsibility. you will find that we have a lot of self-censorship here in usj dot com.

We are very much into community building in usj dot com. As Malaysians, we need to develop our love for our neighbours. My job is partly to remind people that belittling other races (the way of the politicians) is frowned upon here. I strongly believe we are all Malaysians at heart (all races included) but unfortunately we hear of politicians using racial issues for their political agendas.

Okay. Thanks for your input, kwchang that you are just doing your job. :p I am all for community building and I am sure that we Malaysian have the highest tolerance rate in the world. :D

Anyway, after reading wikipedia it appears that "Bumiputera" is not a race afterall...or am I still blur?

the admin may be right not to allow the objectives went astray and turn this into a political forum, or perhaps worried that he may be sued by another big canon.

People here are just trying to express their opinion in writing which they do not have chance to do it in main dailies. We cant do that a decade ago and its wonderful we have a site like this for us to pour out our hidden aches... you know keep too long at heart is not good for health. I wanted to express my xxxxxxxxx over the issue, but have to restrain la, takut kena sue juga. Well guys, go ahead but with some manners in language lor.

True...but listening to broken record over and over again, also jelaklah.

Ok..to answer the question, am I as a non-bumi alright in this country.

I would say, yes, I am alright. I have a good job & I can live peacefully.

Do I wish there was no such discrimination? Yes

Do I hope that it will change in years or generations to come? Yes

Do I wish that religion & governance is not intertwined in the administration of this country due to its multicultural society? Yes

Do I think we (non-bumis) have been severely marginalised? No but rather I think because of the crutches given to the bumis, we have been forced to evolve fitter & stronger because we know we have to compete that much harder.

So, all in all, at the end of the day, it really doesn't matter to me who gets free handouts & special discounts, that very same policy has motivated me to be able to survive in the global marketplace.

Who really do you think is reaping the harvest here? One with a safety net, safety rope and buffered walls or the independant soul?

So do we really want to complain about something that is actually working to our advantage in the grand scheme of things?

We are so lucky coz' we were "well trained" by our current situation.
We still managed to have a good job & live peacefully.

But,
If 'U' were a non-'B' student, you do have a flying colors STPM exam result but yet not been granted any single seat in local U, will you be alright?

If 'U' were a non-'B' student from a poor family in local U but you have seen those 'B' students can easily obtained any scholarship (some even granted more than one), yet some 'B' students are utilized their 'extra $' to buy a big motorbike just for joy, will you be alright?

If 'U' were the non-'B' status sub-contractor and always have to sub those projects that just can only be granted to 'B' contractors, and all the jobs are to complete by you yet big portion of margin is to enjoy by those 'B' contractors, will you be alright?

If "U' were told by your foreign investor boss that he is going to cease his production factory here and will be move out of the country soon due to the reason he can't afford to feed some non-productive 'B' workers anymore, will you be alright? will the country be alright??

…….

Yes, if I were 'U', I'm still alright because I'm still survived here.

I’m happy to see our 'B' friends can stand on their own foot. But I’m not willing to see our ‘B’ friends just to sit and wait for goument to feed them day & night. It will be like the animals which stay in zoo, the animals eventually are losing their ability to alive in real wild environment, because of too comfort living.

Umno Youth slams Fong over neglect of Bumi grads

http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/nst/Thursday/National/20070301082438/Article/index_html

".....Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Dr Fong Chan Onn was lambasted yesterday for neglecting unemployed Bumiputera graduates.

....the ministry should enforce a 30 per cent quota for Bumiputeras at all levels in the private sector"

Life is tough for all, not just bumis. Non-bumis are also humans.

It is a free market where companies are not obliged to hire crappy bumi students churned out by the local unis and uitms. The companies should be allowed to hire the best to compete. What foreign companies wanna bring in FDIs if our moron politicans keep coming out with such remarks.

Like out Tun always like to say...seek the root cause of every problem. Y are bumi grads unemployed, but not the others?

what can the gov enforce now? Force all the companies to employ B grad? that is what happens when they spoon fed them so much...when came out to meet the real world they lose out....now we have to help them AGAIN..why not just give them cash directly..better isnt it..better still just ask all the non b to give the b all their $$$...make this a law lor....if they can...

am so tired of all this...stop blaming us...try to find out why' u 'are having trouble looking for a job...

I think those Umnoputras should bang the door of their Higher Education Minister for churning out unemployable graduates rather than using the mca minister as punching bags:mad: But i think those mca ministers deserved it sometimes as they were seen as easy targets and behaved like no back bones. They should stand up against these gangsters! or else they are going to suffer come next General Election.

Yes, we are all alright today... but how about tomorrow, our nex gen??

Some ppls are keep trying to ask somethings more, today they can ask,
"....the ministry should enforce a 30 per cent quota for Bumiputeras at all levels in the private sector"
if they were suceed, for sure tomorrow they will ask other else more & more...

Should everyone of us just sit down & do nothing? If so, we can't blame our non-Bumi ministers not to do anything for us...

We can do something, at every election.

What we can't do is make changes by stating the obvious over and over again.

Tomorrow's generation and the generation after that should learn to fight their own battles. The life we have now in our hands is our own. And I rather live it happily and with balance. Adapting to what I can compromise on and finding alternatives when I need to.

Generally, many Malaysians love to complain their lungs out but very few actually do anything when they need to, in the proper way. Why? Because all this takes time, patience, perseverance and more likely than not, your attempts are futile in the end. But for those that tried, they can at least say they tried.

How many have the perseverance to hunt our MP's down to commit to causes that we hold strongly to? Very few.

But yet, daily, all we do is sit and talk and talk..complaining that the sky is falling soon. But we aren't moving.

To certain extend, I do agree that some of us Malaysian are typical 'NATO members'.
But, fortunately we still stand a chance to voice our unhappiness in an open space like usj.com; rather than let others assumed that we just keep quiet (silence = acceptance).
We are already moving a small little step forward... from keep silent. :D
And I believed some of us are already moving further than a single step...
