Question: How do you remove the road tax sticker that has been stuck dead to the windscreen? The car is always park in the sun so i guess the sticker has 'embossed' itself to the windscreen. I managed to remove the paper road tax details part but not the decal part. Any ideas folks?

try spraying wd40. leave for a while then scrap off. you might have to repeat application.

I read somewhere recently that
"In life you only need two things. WD40 and Tape"
"If you want to make things move but it stucked, use WD40"
"If you want to make things stick but it moved, use tapes" :D

I dont think wd40 is going to work here. Suggest you try thinner or alcohol. In fact, when I had this problem in my previous car, it was virtually impossible to get it out. Fortunately I sold the car! This was despite I didnt stick the whole thing on the screen! After that, I never stick it on the windscreen directly anymore.

Many of us dont stick it directly any more. Talk to me on Thursday at squash.

I heard of and seen many people with this problem. (3 years road tax on their screen is an indication  ).
However, I wonder why mine comes out perfectly every year.
Just peel off the old and stick in the new.

Try sticking cellophane tape on it and peel it off. Might work...

Like mimosa, I never had that problem too.
Well, for really stubborn glue, I use cigarette lighter fluid - just make sure you are not smoking when using that stuff. ;)

For those of you with tinted film, be very careful because you might peel off the tint and that will be costly to re-tint the screen again

Easy lah
Tools needed
Brand new wide razor cutter blade (NT cutter)
Hold firmly at an angle steadily and scrape evenly starting from edge till the end. Lightly scrape off any remnants.
If need neccessary, wipe off with a little paint thinner (sparingly) and polish off with window cleaner solution.

I've done this with ease successfully in the past..works EVERYTIME..
don't worry, it won't damage your glass.
Good luck!

As I had warned earlier, be careful if you have tinted your screens. While scraping works for glass, you can't do that if you have tints applied after you bought the car.

Know what you mean BS. But it wasnt like that on my BM. It was more like ink stain! To make matters worse, my windscreen was v-kooled! So....what could I do? Just tried to polish lah! But no, it just wouldnt come off!!

warm wet towel....cover it for a bit. should work. never tried it myself but a couple of friends tried it and apparently it works. i usually stick my road tax onto another clear windscreen sticker thingy. u can buy them at stationary shops for 2 bucks a piece....very large piece. then cut yourself. prevention is better than cure... :)

If u stick the road tax onto another clear windscreen sticker thingy, it will defeat the security purpose of this self adhensive road tax. The reason for this security feature is to prevent people from stealing your road tax or easily change the road tax upon stealing your car.

So, think twice before you act. :)

Nail polish remover or rubbing alcohol and a (blunt!) plastic scraper gets most of it off. Needs some elbow grease-though.
Good luck!

U'll need to scrap the 'embosed' part off using a key or flat head screwdriver.
Next, use thinner/alcohol to remove the leftover glue/pieces.

Use a hair dryer to blow at the road tax, while slowly remove it.

i think there's lots of ways to remove it if the surface is bare...but what if the window is tinted? will it damagd the tint?

If you want to remove it easily next year , dust a thin layer of talcum powder on the disc ...not too much though...before sticking on the screen and stick back on the exact spot of the old disc. ;)
The truth is that these adhesive can be peeled slowly , gently...really slowly something like 5 or 10 minutes ...off the surface. If you want a quickie job , you'll end up taking 30 minutes or more trying to scrape , wash , spray or blow the remains away.

mine was done by the tinting ppl (v-kool). they put another layer of transparent plastic over the sticking surface of the roadtax but slightly smaller ie 5-10mm throughout the full rectangle surface. That means only the outer surface of the roadtax touches and sticks to your windscreen. Subsequent year, it's fairly easy to pull out. I just changed mine last month and it was a easy and light. ;)

Found a quicker way assuming you do not have tinting. Just use a blade and scrape it off. Saw the guys who was putting the internal antenna up for me.

Cheers

My car is like that too :D Past 3 years road tax at one side, this year road tax can't paste on top of the other 3 anymore & I paste next to it at the bottom ;)

someone mentioned hair dryer. I have not seen it executed but my mechanic did it. it's logical. harden adhesives usually become viscous again when heat is applied.

so JPJ, soooooo much for your temper proof road tax! :D

FYI, my gf's kelisa, the roadtax was stolen, never had that done that clean & nice by myself, must consult the thieves.
They were pro, like stealing cars, laptop, anything to prevent sure the pro have some clean tricks. So, sticker roadtax, boo.

Just give your VKool a kiss and say goodbye if you wanna remove the stain. Otherwise, like me, place a car sticker over it and live with it till you sell off your car!!
