We have all been through this road. You planned for a trip oversea and suddenly it hit you, "OMG! I forgot to renew my passport!". In a state of panic, you logon to USJ forum and start asking question like "What do I need to get my passport renewed?" or "Where to renew my passport?".

So here we are...a thread dedicated to passport "how-to". Here's my contribution.

---------------8<----------------------------------

Today I went to renew my passport. I have read in the news that they can do it in 1 hour! So I went to the said Imigresen branch, Wangsa Maju. For those who don't know where that it...it is in Taman Sri Rampai, Setapak.

So I arrived at the office at 10AM. I was then immediately greeted by a Chinese dude asking if I needed passport photo. I needed one so I said, "Yeah!".

He took me to his office and took my photo. He then proceed to ask me if I have a form filled. I didn't have one so I told him I needed one. He pulled out a green form and started to fill it in for me. He then asked me for my IC and photocopied it for me. By that time, my polaroid photo is ready and so is my form, nicely filled in!

I got my picture, form filled and IC photocopied all done in 15 minutes! The fee: RM15 which was well worth it. :)

It was 10:15AM by then. So I proceeded to the imigresen office. I went to Kaunter 1 to get a number. My number was 1082 and at the bottom of the ticket sheet it says: Now serving 1081! I was like...OMG!!! Am I dreaming???? I waited for 5 minutes and my number was called. I proceeded to Kaunter 11.

This nice gentleman greeted me with a smile and said, "Good Morning." I said "Good Morning" and handed him my form. He then processed my form, asking me to put my thumb on the biometrics thingy-mcgiggy. I made some small talk here and there. In 5 minutes my application was complete. He then asked me to wait for my number to be called again for payment.

I went back to my seat and waited. I then checked my pocket and DOH!!! I forgot to bring money. Luckily there was a SBB ATM opposite. I ran to the ATM and withdraw some money. I came back to the office and my number was called! Phew...I went to Kaunter 8 and the nice lady there said RM300. Paid her and she gave me a receipt. She then said, "Encik datang balik 2 jam kemudian and pergi Kaunter 18 untuk ambil passport baru!" I looked at my watch, it was 10:30AM.

I was surprised! I had to pinch myself to make sure I was not dreaming. It turned out I was not. So I smiled back at the cashier lady and said, "Thank you!". I have some errants to run so I went to do what a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do! ;)

I returned to the office at 12:30AM and went to Kaunter 18. This imigresen dude then proceed to check out my receipt. I got my passport renewed at 12:35AM! I left the imigresen office then feeling very content.

All in all, today's experience at the imigresen branch Wangsa Maju was very pleasant efficient! Kudos to all in Wangsa Maju Imigresen.

OK so you all would like to have the same experience when renewing your passport. Below is my recommendation:

1. Go to Imigresen Wangsa Maju branch or Damansara. These are the 2 pilot branch who can do your passport in 2 hours. (They claim 1 hour in the recent newspaper).
2. You will need the following:
** 1 photocopy of your IC, front and back on the same page of an A4 paper. You will need your IC, DUH!?!?
** 2 passport photo
** 1 green passport renewal form (Cost: RM1)
** RM300 for the fee

------------------------------------->8--------------------

I hope the above will give everyone here a good idea on how to renew your passport. Those who have their own experience to share, please do add so that this can be the main thread for everyone to seek advise when renewing passport. When this becomes official enough, maybe Chang can put this as a sticky and we all can avoid the passport thread that we get every now and then.

Additional info:

You can download the Passport Application Form for free from the immigration department's website:

http://www.imi.gov.my/eng/Forms/im_forms.asp

So you can save the RM1 for the green form, but remember to print on both sides of the A4 paper as printing on 2 pieces of A4 paper is not accepted.
