Hi,
I am currently using a Sanyo one, but it no good. Even cooking rice at 1/5th of the bowl, the water will splash out when rice is boiled.
Nowadays, cooker comes with steam container, good ah?

All the while using National/Panasonic (the best brand for rice cooker I think) then now using a Philip Cucina (a lucky draw gift). The philip cooker had the same problem like sharp, i.e. steam plus water come out from the steam opening from the lid cover. Dont buy rice cooker with a lot of sofisticated function, just normal rice and porridge cooking will do. My friend use a multifunction rice cooker and she always complain that it takes much longer time to cook simple rice, 45 - 60 minutes. Happy Cooking.
Seriously.... all rice cooker will have some water spew out when it is boiling. The difference is where they are going to hide it. Some put another container at the back to contain while some just let it blow out . Nothing bad or good n it's good that it still cooks the fluffy rice for your hungry tummy at the end of the day.
Go for the basic unit minus all the fancy function n it should last a lifetime...:p
Unless you like those plasticky types with flimsy hinges that will crack after some time.
My 1.8l basic sanyo cooker just died after serving me faithfully for the last 25 years....

If you are the health conscious type, look for stainless steel pot instead of the Al one.

Yes. Beside its various functions, how about the quality of the container ? Most brands' containers are made of aluminum alloy and some coated with TEFLON. Both can cause serious health problems.
Recently Buffolo and Khind have introduced stainless steel container rice cooker. I believe this one is the proper type that we should use. :)

It seems that they have many sizes that can fit into our existing rice cooker. 10 years warranty. Tempted to buy one. Have anyone use this before, any comments?

Do it the ang moh way. Put your rice preparation (wash, water, etc.) then shove it into the microwave! Put timer to 10 minutes. Stir every 3 minutes.

also note that for non stick teflon coated containers, u are not supposed to rinse the rice in the container cos raw rice is very very abrasive. and chances are if u drop it there wont be a dent but a crack - if its a panasonic, be prepared to fork out more than the price of a normal rice cooker to replace the non stick pot only. and the cover - most sophisticated cookers do not have detachable lids. when u cook more than rice, maximising its functionality just like the ads say, u will start wondering how the hell u r gonna clean the inside of the lid.
take my word for gospel truth - i'm writing with full of regrets. :(
stick to the good old fashion time tested cheap simple rice cookers.
