In the two years that I have lived in Malaysia, I have seen many changes in the Subang Jaya area.
This thread will list some of those changes. Perhaps people will be interested, and attempt to keep it updated regularly with info about the face of the community.
Although this is not meant to be a trip down memory lane, nostalgia is welcome...but so is discussions of progress...and its consequences.
To begin
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TiaraVille/e-Tiara (SS16)
Empty land between Mesianiaga and Carrefoure (owned by Inti College) is sold to Titijaya group. Construction of 5 condominium towers begins.
e-tiara completed in December 2006, open for residence in early 2007.
Saujana Residency/Jana Towers (SS16)
Saujana group develops Saujana Towers, promoting luxury living in SS16, along with Jana Towers.
Subang Parade (SS16)
Hektar group begins renovation of Subang Parade, including redesign of interior. Mall becomes brighter on the inside, but beige on the outside. Garden centre at NE corner (nearest KTM station) is recently closed
SJ Uptown (SS15)
SJ Uptown night market begins operations in back lanes of SS15 Subang Jaya. Residents in SS15 and SS17 initially complain about loud music
SJ Chinatown (SS15)
SJ Chinatown begins appearance in back lane of SS15 in late 2006. Before operations begin (presumably for the Year of the Pig) the signage mysteriously disappears. New signage renames the project as an extension of SJ Uptown.
Dataran Millenium (SS13)
Dataran Millenium opens with fanfare and closes silently. Recent signs indicate that the Canai & Such Gazebo will move to the site of Dataran Millenium
Canai & Such Gazebo (SS15)
The C & S Gazebo in SS15 will be relocated to Dataran Mellenium in SS13 (see above)
First Subang (SS15)
Office and Retail complex First Subang introduced on 18/1/07. First Subang (Titijaya Group) will occupy the site of the Canai & Such Gazebo in SS15. One wonders what the residents of the BNM Apartments will think of the project.
RapidKL Kelana Jaya LRT extension (SS15/SS16)
RapidKL and Prasarana announce extension of Kelana Jaya LRT line to Subang Jaya and USJ. No announcement about stations is given, but many speculate that there will be stations in SS16 (interchange with KTM Subang Jaya) and between SS14/15/17/18
NPE Ramps (SS14/SS12/SS19)
New ramp from Pers. Kewajipan to NPE (KL Bound opens). New ramp from NPE to Jalan Tujuan opens. SS19 cut off from Subang Jaya as Jalan Tujuan becomes an unofficial limited access highway
Subang-Kelena Link (SS12/13/14/15)
Subang Kelana link (and 2nd link project) begins construction over Pers. Kewajipan. Piling works (especially during late hours) and traffic jams disrupt lives for residents of SS12 and SS15 (who endure with some silence). Piling works continue over Metropolitan Roundabout into SS13/14 area. Deck construction begins at SS16 near Mesianaga building.
Ultimate effect of Subang-Kelana link on traffic on Pers. Kewajipan is unknown
Kompleks 3C (SS13)
Children's Creative Complex, built along NPE highway in an industrial area, under high tension wires, finally opened after numerous delays.
Inti College new wing (SS15)
After selling its land near the KTM station, Inti college decides to build up, comissioning a new project for a 10 storey building on it's SJ campus
Asia Cafe (SS15)
Asia Cafe opens on sight of old movie theatre, delighting college students and their teachers during the day, and various shady types :p ;) at night
Pasar Moden (SS15)
The mysterious complex in SS15 is finally opened to traders in late 2006, and an immediate parking jam appears as a result
Pasar Lama (SS15)
Old wet market and Warong foodstalls in SS15 to be closed as traders move to Pasar Moden. Area residents and workers breathe a sigh of relief, then immediately regret breathing the air.
MPSJ Impound Lot (SS15)
MPSJ impound lot, occupying prime real estate in SS15, will move to less than prime real estate (the site of the old wet market).
Residential project (SS15)
Mysterious developer announces 14 storey apartment building on the site of the MPSJ impound lot, to begin work in 2007.

So, that's what I've observed in the past two years. I'm sure there are other things. Let's keep this thread updated so we know what is going on.
