The Spore Straits Times today carried this report that a Thai newspaper (The Nation) had reported that the Thai govt was to summon mobile phone service operators to warn them against eavesdropping after the head of the Council for National Security (CNS) said his phone conversations had been tapped and leaked to Singapore.

CNS chief Sonthi Boonyarataglin was reported to have told a forum in Thailand that foreign ownership of the telecoms industry could jeopardise national security.

Of course, being from the Thai armed forces, he would be ultra-conscious about "national security", the more so given the recent controversy about what former Thai PM Thaksin is up to.

I wonder what TDM would say about this, seeing as how he vetoed SingTel's proposed investment in the Msian telecom sector some years back? If I remember right, "national security" was an issue raised then.
