Hello...

I am not sure if any of you guys experience this...recently there is/are some 'fat' creature/s on top of my second floor ceiling...partying.

Not sure what is that, we do climb above the ceiling to check if its bat, mouse, snake, cat...(any other possible thing?) but still couldn't figure out what is that coz we can't find any of their Sh*t or foot print...

And it/they only come in at night..jumping around...

Is there any solution to get rid of it?

Thanks,
June

usually it is mouse...

must be Tom trying to chase Jerry round the house haha

sometimes, it may be birds too. Check if you have any "broken" or worn out ceiling where birds can go in.

chances are it's rats. look around yr neighbourhood and see if anyone is renovating their house. if there is, confirmed it's tikus. i have that problem whenever a house nearby is being renovated. the tikus comes out to play.

It happened to me 13 years when I first moved in to my USJ house.

It was actually the vibration caused by the PVC pipes that run above the ceiling when high pressure water charge into your water tank.

Try to turn off the main tap to see if such phenomena persists.

Or else it may be a 'supernatural' forces.

You are your worse enemy when face with darkness.

No footprints, no s*i*s stains, only comes out at nite?....oh, boy, this may be a job for the ghostbusters! :D
Hehehe..kidding la. Where got ghosts one? Never saw one before. And most people who claimed to have seen one were either drunk or on some kinda drugs. Hallucination's more like it. So, don't worry. In all probability, it's a rat.

(feet tapping at attic)

W-w-wait...what's that noise...lemme go investigate it...

(sound becomes increasingly louder. writer approaching attic. sound stops suddenly. dead silence.)

What the.....

(attic door suddenly flungs open...)

It is usually cats that make their home under the roof. They can jump real high.

It happened to me last time. Make sure when the cats are away, just seal any hole they can go through.

They usually go out to eat and then return to sleep on the ceiling.

Could be squirrels. They have been known to climb in the roof area, and they do jump around a lot. Try getting a big mouse trap, put a bit of cheese and fruit as bait and see what type of "creature" it catches.

 Could it be your neighbour's guy going thro' your ceiling to get to the other side of your house? Maybe for some private matters? Hahhaha :D

Cat normally walk very softly ... you can hardly hear any foot steps, unless of course it is running wild.

Check if it is pigeon... daytime, they went out cari makan and only 'check in' to their 5 stars hotel at night. :D Suggest you check the ceiling when there is sound, no point u climb up during day time and see nothing.

This is quite true. Esp if you live in semi-D or terrace houses. When I was young, I like to climb up the ceiling board and go over my neighbours side to play... (not as you think! I never do peeping, but come to think of it, I should have peeped.)

The brick partition between the 2 houses was a poor job and as a kid, I can easily remove them. Until now, I still have my childhood treasure hidden in some part of the ceiling. I am too old to climb up now plus the old ceiling beam may not be able to support my weight anymore! :D

It has to be big rats, i had the same problem sometime to go, these rats used to feast at my neighbours backyard and at nite they would pick my ceiling for partying and romancing and agree with you too the romping can be loud and irritating in the stiil of the nite.

Solution..caught a few with rat traps, did not remove the traps for a day the others ran for their life and never returned.

haha maybe we should start a thread on squirrels... I have one near my house too. but this squirrel is pitiful. he is a loner. he has got no partner. but he does not go to my ceiling. he just travels from tree to tree and also commute using the electical cables :)

once, I put some orrange on the fencing wall and he took it. that was the only time I could feed it. up till today, I have not managed to feed it again.

well, as for our friend who have experienced the funny noise in the ceiling, i doubt it is squirrel cause squirrel usually go round the trees, plants, etc.

Maybe you have seen squirrels near the roof / ceiling but I have not! that's why I doubt it is squirrels. have you actually seen the squirrels on top of the roof / ceiling ? do let me know

one other thing about mice/ mouse is that that make some squeeking noise.
I equate this squeeking noise to those "SUCKING" noise we Malaysians use when we call the waiter. it is roughly the same sound. so when you heard a similar sound, you will know it is a rat.

Oh, yeah. I forgot to mention peigion. Once peigion went up to the ceiling. Well, peigeon is easily distinguished from other birds.... err.... I don't know how to describe but they will sing some tune and the tune sounds like coming from the chest.

It goes,,,, Ku..ru...ku....kuuuu

haha

Can I upload a sound clip ? haha

oh yeah. you could also guess if it is rats but the way the walk.

you see, their claws will "claw" against your ceiling panels making a sort of a scratching sound.

Listen to the sound...

If it is slow, most probably it's a bird.

If it is very fast, most probably rats /mouse

it's because mouse can move faster (walking) than birds.

oh talking about claws, I know you have not seen monitor lizards / biawak in the ceiling and I doubt they can "climb" to the ceiling. So don't worry. It's not monitor lizards.

FIRE IN THE HOLE!!!!

I think when you shout, "FIRE IN THE HOLE", you should do this.....
Spray in the hole for about 5 minutes then light a match and throw it in.

You will hear a quick. POOF..... it's quite fun when I was playing this as a kid.... :D

there is no point shouting FIRE IN THE HOLE when you don't have fire :)

I place those cage that catch greddy mice in my workshop, sometime i end up with a small musang, sometime i end up with a small mickey mouse as big as a cat, donno where they get all the good food become so huge. Before i manage to trap any, i can hear the sound of their scratching, bitting debris and foot print all over the place just like a young boy running around a disneyland. :D Somehow i manage trap at least 5 mickey mouse average every week!

These is difference between mice and rats. House mice are darker and smaller and look for food on the floor and cant climb the walls and they have a distinct odor and make squeeking sounds whereas rats are large and run faster then mice and are grey in colour and very agile and smart to climb.

Tabik. To your Manhood.

If the creature is some musang, its a bit dangerous. Sharp teeth.

Can you get a humane live trap? It can come in a variety of sizes.
Then take it outside and release it back into the wild. A pest control operative should be able to supply that. Better not be a squirrel because
they are quite capable to chew through cables. :D
If it bothers you, best get pest control.

An ultrasonic motion deterrent could also be an option. :D
