heh, I thought someone would've written about this movie liao, but anyways, I was disappointed in Jay Chou. The fella can't act to save his life.

Chow Yun Fatt however, awed me speechless (or more like scared me 'sheet'less) with his fierce eyes!

Other than that, a good movie for guys to watch. Plenty of nice 'scenery' to watch.

I found the movie too far-fetched with the visual effects. By that I mean the silver vs golden soldiers scene, which removed much of the semblance of reality. It looked almost impossible for the palace to house the number of soldiers you see on the courtyard. The size ratio of a soldier to the palace looks plain wrong, coupled with a pathetic attempt to mask the flaw with metallic dazzle.

Sigh ...!

Really don't understand lah .... Why there are so many 'big' and 'unnecessary' chinese movie after Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon? Zhang Yimou, you crazy bastard .... how can you ask Jay Chou to act, he is a popular singer and popular singer NOT = good actor.

Chow Yun Fatt is never my favorite actor - do not like him at all. I never watch any film played by Chow Yun Fatt.

Gong Li is good but not any film with Chow Yun Fatt, therefore, even I like Gong Li, I will not watch this film. :)

Wake-up ...... Zhang Yimou.

Go for the mandarin version. The cantonese version in dubbed and makes it more fake than it already is.

Scenery - over the top, excessive and plastic!

Story line - interesting and can capture your intrigue to last the whole movie. Another tragic human story of power hunger, greed, lust - or well, just human nature.

Jay Chou's character - flat. The crown prince - useless, spineless, even flatter. The only time he managed to show real emotion was as a scared prince towards the climatic end.

The battle scenes - although not real, is pretty good although everyone knows it's too incredible.

IMHO

Agree with all except for the battle scene. Just didn't cut it for me. And the movie is in Cantonese, so I guess if you want Mandarin, you have to wait for DVD.

Btw, Keira was sure a doll in Pirates OTC, wasn't she? Wished she had more screen time. And you should see her on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. She even used the f-word on the air! Haha. But it was beeped out, of course. What ta girl! ;)

Great sceneries...yeah..both the greeneries & ahemm...Fabulous costume too....It must be time consuming to wear that Emperor/Empress costume for
GL & Chow Yuen Fatt...Great fighting scenes too..

As for Jay Chou...hhhmmm...I think he shud stick to his real talent..i.e singing.....At least..he won't go wrong wiv it..

But the ending is quite hanging too.....I wonder...what really hapened to GL?? ;)

Reviewer in the Star newspaper kept harping on 'em, as if those are the only two things ( :p ) the movie's worth going for, not to mention the umpteen mentions of 'em here. Hehehe. :D Hmmm..should I wait for the DVD or just plonk down RM10 for the tix to catch 'em in the cinema? Decisions, decisions, decisions. ;)

Err...how could this movie be rated with "U"mum or "G" rating for general audiences to begin with in the local Malaysian cinemas...???

Real sickening that this could be allowed to happen only in this freaking BOLEHLAND...where NOTHING is ringgit proof...even in the Malaysian film censorship process...simply for the sakes of selling box office tickets...!

This movie almost began with an act of forbidden incest arising from the despicable hidden secrets...between the Emperor's consort...an Empress(stepmother) n the heir apparent to the throne of the Empire within the forbidden city...

Ahem...n to top it ALL off...the rest of the movie is filled with acts of deceits...hatreds...vengeance...siblings rivalry...sexual foreplays n excessive violent bloodsheds...!

Err...how does anyone of you suppose...the parents who brought their young childrens to this movie...or let them...watch it on their own...gonna feel about the ill effects of this movie...should they have NOT been forewarn about the deceitful rating of this movie by the Malaysian censorship board...???

Everywhere else...the minimum rating for this movie is PG rated...meaning "Parental Guidance" required...while in the USA...this movie is rated "R"estricted ONLY to audience(s) above the legal age of consent...!

In HongKong...it's rated "IIB"
In Singapore...it's rated "PG"

What the heck those freaking people involved are thinking of doing next...?

So to those many parents out there...should you have known about the actual substances of this movie...would you bring along or encourage your younger childrens...to watch it...??? (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0473444/)

Err...regretted having gone to this movie with Orchi's young kids...damn it...!

Bolehland's film censorship board is a confused bunch of idiots who simply haven't a clue as to what they are doing. These morons simply cut here and there, whenever they like and passes whatever they like without thinking of the consequences of their actions, not that they have a brain to begin with in the first place, of course. A sad state of affairs indeed. That's why I only watch movies on DVDs these days. At least, this way, I can be sure kids who are watching with me will not be subjected to stuff they're not supposed to see. Also, adults will not be deprived of what they're matured enough to watch.

Watch it in the cinema on its first week of screening and thought it was just ok. Didn't really expect to get suprises from Jay Chou so i basically didn't really get disappointed. Was really impressed with Chow Yun Fatt, never really like him but i had to say i really like him playing the emperor in the movie. :-)

Yes, I agree that when I watched the combat scene, it gave me a feeling of western style fighting,.... a little like Braveheart fighting style with the sticks (in this show they use gold and silver metal rods to differenciate the teams) ahahah...

I like this show only because of the grandeur, the elaborated costumes, the colorful setting, and the chrysanthemums... and of course the "wobbly sceneries" hahahah... Noticed how fast the ladies walked in this show ahahah...

Storyline was quite good... as it could catch my attention right to the end. I watched Pathfinder just before watching this movie (yeah 2 movies back to back) and yet I can still be interested right till the end.

Comparatively, it's better than The Banquet (just a little bit better only due to its grandeur) but The Banquet's presentation and fighting scenes are more "beautifully" choreographed and looks less "computer-aided". Umm, actually The Banquet's storyline is a little better as it was better presented and is more romantic (can pull some heartstrings there). CoTGF, however, despite the many tear-spilled, did not manage to invoke any emotions from me...

Both boasts popular actors and actresses and promising upcoming new faces, so casting is not too bad. Of course, Chow Yuen Fatt and Gong Li saved the show.... Always have hated Jay Chou due to his "kayu"-ness.

Just watched it on a DVD yesterday, quite an engaging movie, the settings and costumes were fabulous tho I thought the storyline was a bit far fetched maybe. I wonder, is this a true account in the history of china's dynasty? Was a bit abrupt the ending, left us blur blur expecting a lil bit more.

Jay Chou's acting ok la, for a new actor. :) Gong Li and Chow Yun Fatt being veterans were needless to say, good. The others like the princes, doctor and wife, their very pretty daughter :P were convincing in their parts too.

And wow to all the chrysantenums!
