When do one need to register for kids of 5 years old for Standard 1? I heard that you have to register 2 years before, i.e. at age 5 but when? Beginning of year? During the holidays? Any ideas?

Err buddy...assuming that the child would be 5 years old in 2007...he would be attending school by 2009 in Std 1...you would have to register him at the nearest school of your choice...in the beginning of 2007 after school session starts...

Bring along...the original birth cert n a photocopy of it...an original utility bill with the house address n a copy of it...the father's NRIC n copies of it...n etc. which might depend on the different school's requirement...(private school or national school)...

Then somewhere within 2008...you would receive a letter from the school which your child has been allocated to study in...which also contains further instructions from the school...

Best is to drop by the nearest school of your choice to ask for the necessary...

It depends on the school, I guess, last month, I went to USJ 4 school to register my kid, but the admin there told me thats its too early, just comeby 2008 to register?!

My girl will be attending school in 2009.

I thought these should be government schools and there should be a standard guideline on the registration. Anybody has any idea when is the registration date for the chinese school in SS19 - Li Hung?

Registration to enter Chinese schools are even more difficult ... very limited spaces available so that's why many register as early as possible .. some say must give some kind of 'contribution' to get your kid in the school of your choice.
As for the 'national' schools, I wonder why they tell you to come tack in 2008 .. anyway, they will still send your kid to the nearest to your declared address.

sabaidee ..

Thank you all for your kind information, especially dear Orchi...

Anyway, I went to the school today to enquire and was given a list of things to be submitted together with the registration form. I was told that I can submit the forms and the rest of the necessary items listed in the list (IC, birth cert, electric/water bill, envelops, etc) by February/March.

She was very kind to teach me how to fill in the form but very cautious to remind that the decision for the placement doesn't lie in her hands nor is it in mind but with the Ministry Of Education.... Is it true? Who makes the actual selection/allocation/placement actually?

She did also advised me not to despair because we can still appeal even though my son doesn't get a place there. She says their decision is based on the location of the house and it's distance from the school according to a map. Was just wondering, is there an online USJ map which I can use for this purpose?
