The White Ribbon Campaign 2006 Media Forum
Date: Saturday, November 25th, 3pm-5pm
Venue: 1-Utama, Shopping Centre, Ground Floor, Galleria Lounge
In conjunction with the White Ribbon Campaign 2006, the All Women's Action Society (AWAM) invites members of the media to a dialogue about the portrayal of women in the media, with emphasis on issues of violence.
Invited speakers are:
1. D. Chitra, survivor of domestic violence
2. Philomena Pragasam, programme manager, Traxx FM
3. Jason Tan, Editor, Off The Edge
4. Ng Miew Luan, senior writer, Sin Chew Daily
Moderated by Dr Mary Suma Cardosa
In view of recent sensational cases of violence against women, there is no better time examine the role of the media in this regard. As disseminators of information to the public, the media can be powerful advocates for change by highlighting incidences of violence against women with sensitivity and accuracy.
Speakers will share the challenges, outcomes and the public response towards their efforts.
