I am using Microsoft Outlook to send out my emails from my old TMNet account... I have stated my outgoing server (SMTP) as smtp.tm.net.my ... basically I can send out the emails but the mails tend to return as non delivery especially those that was sent to yahoo mailbox. It mentioned there that that the IP address used by this SMTP has been blocked, etc...

anyone faced similar problem... or anyone know how to resolve this...?

Yahoo does have that feature..
any email app would have it..
its called "filters"
if i were to filter the "FROM" header with with words like birdy, tm.net.my
the email send to my yahoo mail from birdy@tm.net.my would be blocked, and sent to trash or junkmail..

this clear that doubt of yours? :)

it would be filtered but the mail would not bounce back to his tmnet account.. Me thinks maybe yahoo doesn't like your account..

Kress got the point... it is bouncing back the email with the subject matter of Internet Mail Delivery. And the error message read this way:-

Your message cannot be delivered to the following recipients:

Recipient address: abc@yahoo.com.tw
Reason: Rejection greeting returned by server.
Diagnostic code: smtp;553 Mail from 202.188.0.162 not allowed - VS99-IP1 deferred - see help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/defer/defer-02.html (#5.7.1)[10]
Remote system: dns;mx1.mail.tw.yahoo.com (TCP|172.23.0.12|39725|203.188.197.10|25)
Any thinker on that? I believe this is not filtering problem but looks more to me like yahoo mailserver is rejecting mails from this server 202.188.0.162

I believe tmnet emails have at one time in the past being misused for SPAM. It may not be from Malaysians but could be from spywares, malwares and viruses which have found their ways into our Malaysian users' computers.

Furthermore, there is a possibility that spammers have also used tmnet mail servers to route their spam worldwide. I do not know how it is like now but in the past, anyone could assign tmnet as the SMTP server, even if the person do not have a tmnet mail account. It is possible that this one big loophole could have been used by spammers and telekoms malaysia became a spammer source.

Thus tmnet was probably at one time being black-marked for being a Spammer site. Hence if that was true, it is of no surprise that yahoo for example now blocks emails coming from tmnet mail servers.

Moral of story - do not use the tmnet and streamyx mailboxes. Go for yahoo or gmail.

It's an Outlook setting. Goto Tools > Options > Mail Setup > Email Accounts > View or change existing email accounts > Select your email account from the list > Change > More Settings > Outgoing Server > Mark the checkbox which says 'My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication AND select 'Use same settings as my incoming mail server'.

Click OK and you are done. Hopefully this will work and you should be able to send emails to yahoo and other free email accounts.

Ullas, sad to say... I hv made the suggested settings and still unable to deliver the mail to my friend using Taiwan yahoo.. I noticed that those with normal yahoo.com and yahoo.com.my did not reject / return my mail.. but only the one sent to yahoo.com.tw - could it be the as what Chang has highlighted, they hv listed tm.net.my in black list???

SO, can anyone suggest to me how should I resolve this ? Is there any alternate SMTP that can use to replace this? :o

...Is there any alternate SMTP that can use to replace this?...If you send email from TNNet's email, you need to use their SMTP. No other service will allow you to tap on their SMTP. As I had mentioned, the folly of Telekom in not securing their SMTP service and allowing other services to send mail through theirs had probably resulted in the current bad state for their users.

Only way out is to get another email service like yahoo or gmail. Or if you are in need of an email service immediately, did you know that you actually can send emails from usj dot com's Fastmail service? As a member of the Forum, you already have an email address - in your case it is birdy@usj.com.my. However, your friends will probably not know who "birdy" is.

Thanks.. Chang... but I am so used to sending emails using email clients like Microsoft Outlook....it is rather troublesome for me to send emails using webmails such as yahoo or usj mail. I am fully aware of the fastmail service... just too troublesome to send email with attachments using webmail services. :(

actually the explanation is there in the bounced email. See
help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/defer/defer-02.html

Looks like they have blocked TMNet server.
Yahoo is currently testing a new interface (beta). Looks very similar to Outlook.

birdy,

the IP 202.188.0.162 belongs to service.tm.net.my

smtp.tm.net.my is 202.188.0.212

if u are very sure that u have configured smtp.tm.net.my as outgoing SMTP server, then smtp.tm.net.my might have passed the email to service.tm.net.my to send out.

3 ways u can resolve this issue,

1) if you read the yahoo reject email properly, u can see the link http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/defer/defer-02.html , if u are tech savvy u need to do 3 things listed in the website, follow the instructions. i went through this way...got our email server IP released after 1-2weeks

2) if u are not tech savvy, u report this to TMNET and pray that they will settle this issue for you.

3) if none of the above work for u, go for free webbased email like yahoo, gmail and etc.

good luck

If that's the case... can we directly insert 202.188.0.212 as the outgoing SMTP server? I am pretty confirmed that I have configured smtp.tm.net.my as outgoing SMTP server but somehow when the mail was returned by Yahoo.com.tw......it was indicated as 202.188.0.162

The weird part is why is it happened to mails sent to yahoo.com.tw only.. there is no problem sending to yahoo.com or yahoo.com.my. I supposed if yahoo were to block, all yahoo mail server will block this IP!

hi birdy,

u can try putting the actual IP for smtp.tm.net.my, from your situation, it seems like smtp.tm.net.my has pass the emails to be sent out by service.tm.net.my. u can try...but if still can't there is nothing u can do.

it seems like u really want to stick to your outlook with the tm.net.my email, in this case u should contact yahoo telling them that yahoo.com and yahoo.com.my is not blocking, but yahoo.com.tw is blocking.

in the mean time report this to tmnet too.

after that just sitback relax and wait...

cheers
