Can anyone share with me your experience in using Anti-Virus software... which one is actually the best in the market in terms of the stability, the protection and security, and of course the cost.

I tried McAfee Internet Security Suite 2007 earlier... it is a very good security suite. It has the anti-phishing feature as well as website advisor..ie..it will advise u before hand which is the safe website to go and which is not. Unfortunately, this software actually takes up lots of the resources.. it actually slow down your PC startup, running your IE and shutting down.

Initially, I don't realize that this slowness was due to McAfee until I unistall it out lately... My PC speed back to original (ie. pretty fast startup and shutting down). Before this, it takes u at least 5 mintues to shut down a PC while it takes average about 3 to 5 minutes to properly booth up the PC.

In your point of view..does one really need this protection? Currently I am on trial run only installing Spyware protection...no antivirus, no firewall protection...all I need is extra careful while running something.

AVG: free.grisoft.com
Lastest version is 7.5

I use that with Zone Alarm. So far no problem.

The problem with these so called better suites like Norton and McAfee is that they're resource hogs. They slow you're machine down anywhere from 25%-50% depending on configuration.

I have McAfee 2006 running on a Core Duo 1.66Ghz with 2Gb of RAM and can still notice the system slowdown significantly.

Does one really need an anti-virus for protection? As long as we don't simply execute the executable file... I think we won't be at risk in getting virus attach, right? What I more concern is still Spyware.. coz this is like cancer... a silent killer which affect u without your knowledge.....That's why now I only install Anti-Spyware system in my PC.. it really speed up my PC a lot..... ;)

Yes, nowadays, not only ur PC can be infected by opening infected files (not only EXEs but others as well - doc, pps, jpg etc) , but also by simply viewing webpages. It's highly recommended to have a AV software running, as well as Anti Spyware. Of course, it would also help if u know what u r doing and take pre-caution.

whether it's spyware or virus, it's not good for the PC. Once my colleague surfed pron and kena this spyware/virus. Everytime, he started IE, the pron website will be shown on top of other windows. Really 'malufying'. And that was one really tough virus to clean.

That one padan muka. For the following reasons:

a) IE
b) IE
c) IE

Everybody should have these installed, updated and run regularly:

1) Anti-virus scanners
2) Spyware scanners

No point having the software if you don't update it regularly.

Just recently helped my dad clean out a nasty Virtumundo infection. After going through that episode, I swear that people who have to resort to these sort of tactics should rot in hell. What a royal pain in the donkey.

On a side note, CastleCops is a great resource for combating problems such as these.
