I haven't been able to access google.com or my gmail the whole day today. Is everyone facing the same problem or its just me?

Guys, thanks for the info/inputs. But, clearing the cache does not help :( This is so strange. I am running Sypbot now to figure out whether its spyware/ malware related. Has anybody faced a similar problem before? I can however access it from a proxy server

see if you can access it via http://216.239.39.99/

if you can, then you might have a either a DNS problem, or some spyware running loose in your computer...

Somehow magically it has now got restored. I can access every google network site now :) Tinkerfy: thanx for that IP link anyways.

Just FYI, I tried on my wife's laptop before I could actually get it on mine. I could access it from hers. Which makes me think this is something very machine specific. Hmm... nonetheless, its solved now :)

I still face the same problem for about one week now. Sometimes I cant connect to google or gmail on my computer when I use streamyx. I then dial-up using tmnet, & google/gmail actually works fine.. on the same PC. So, it may be streamyx problems..Haiz.. dunno when my problem can be solved..

Hehehe...did u pay your streamyx promptly? :D Else, if you are using wireless router, check ur router. U might want to check ur Modem to, see if the DSL light is blinking.

I still face the same...dunno when my problem can be solved..Hey Vivien, from your explanation it looks like a streamyx problem. I will need to do some more tests next time when this happens again to really track this problem. It can be very frustrating, because for many of us I assume google is like a lifeline.

You can try using an online proxy server and try browsing to gmail.com next time. It worked for me to check my important emails. But the privacy issue here is not guaranteed, so use your discretion.

Cannot access the google network sites (gmail, google, orkut etc). The solution is to reset your modem so it picks up a new IP address :) It worked for me, should work for anybody else too :)

Ullas, seems like a lot of ppl having the same problem as yours as well..
my friends from cheras, sri petaling, some USJ2, all having the similar problem..
probably there's some dormant worm/spyware/trojan hiding in the system somewhere...

You know how at the beginning of each year, there are all these predictions being made by some party or other about what will happen during the year? I seem to remember reading somewhere - perhaps even in this forum itself - a prediction that Google will crash sometime in the later part of this year. Paid no attention to what I read at that time, but am now wondering. No facts for the prediction were given. I remember having the impression that that prediction was probably more to do with astrology, Nostradamus, God-told-me types than with analysis, projections, calculations types, so that bit of "info" sat on a backburner in my mind.

Well, we're in the later part of the year. :D

Because I ran Spybot as well as Ad-aware and it has not been able to detect anything. Also going by what Vivien has said earlier, it seems to be a streamyx-IP related problem, because apparently she was able to access google.com after she logged in from tmnet dialup.

Spybot and Adaware are not as powerful as they seem...
they are just popular and user friendly.
I used to get a spyware in my PC, which blocked me from visiting a couple of websites which i visited frequently..
spybot and adaware detected my PC as clean..
but I also had HijackThis! and found a suspicious dll file..
ran the dll file on an online file checker, and found 3 nasty stealthy things there.
deleted those from the system registry, and I was able to surf again.
But then it only affected Internet Explorer..
Mozilla had no problems whatsoever..

for those who can't access google using IE, try Mozilla Firefox
:)

Is Hijack This! a spyware programme or one of the bad guys? Also, what link is the online file checker you're referring to?

Online Malware Scanner (http://virusscan.jotti.org/)
HijackThis! (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Popup-Ad-Spyware-Blockers/HijackThis.shtml)

read the description first before using yeah? :)

Anyone tried Spyware Blaster?

but I also had HijackThis! and found a suspicious dll file..I remember using this program long time back. It's the one which gives you specific steps to get rid of a malware/spyware after you have identified it right? It's too geekish for my time, but if something really started hurting my laptop I would surely give it a try :)

nah.. it generates a log file of all the registry keys and process actively running in the background..
so if copy the log file contents here, we should be able to suspect which is the malware entry and should be deleted... :)

Anybody tried Ewido to detect spyware? They used to be independent but were recently bought over by AVG.

I use it as a 3rd spyware detector along with Adaware and Spybot.
