After reading other ppl's grip[es and problems, now i have one BIg one of my own.
Came back to Msia and saw a letter of demand from a debt collection agency which claimed they are acting under instruction from a law firm for an unpaid Telekom land line which was registered under my name.
Although the amount is only in hundreds of ringgit, i am afraid that this could be the begining of my nightmare.Never know what kind of other stuffs the perpetrator may have done.FYI, i have never lost my ic.

I think i will lodge a police report tomorrow, call the debt collection company and see what course of action i can take.
If anyone out there has any experience, pls do advise.

Well...to the best of my understanding, Telekom would not appoint any debt collection agency to recover the debt...Moreover, it is only couple hundred ringgits. Why would they waste time to get themselve into trouble for these couple hundred ringgits?

I suggest u seek the help from police...and also clarification from Telekom. :)

Report to the police straightaway, no point calling the debt collectors' company..
I'd say this could be a con-job...
did you make photocopy of your IC without striking it off for some application?

Called debt collection agency up this morning and was told this outstanding was more than 6 yrs old. I asked them how come now only i am receiving this letter of demand now and answer was, lots of reminders were sent to the registered land line address....Anyways, i am in 2 mind whether to lodge police report and see what action they can take.
Notice sent on 3rd Oct, with cc copies to a law firm instructing them to file with the Court by 09th oct.
The only time i remembered giving my ic to others was to apply for a credit card , with 2 parallel lines struck in between with pen.
I think i will wait and see what happens.

telekom does have an appointed legal debt collection agency/department..i got few pink letters from them before..back to the topic..like what birdy said, better lodge a police report and check with telekom on the documents submitted by the id thief, and in the event of more letters..MCA..

stupid excuses by Telekom. Due to their inefficiency, the pubic has to suffer. Only after 6 years they chase you. How to remember if it is a small amount. Lodge a report straight away. If fact I would lodge a complaint also (but don't know where - Michael Chong MCA complaint burearu ?)

If the creditor did not make attempt to collect back any commercial debts that is more than 6 years.. it is a good as uncollectible debt. So, it is very clearly that this debt collector is telling you a lie.

The law allow any legal action for debt must be seek within the 6 years. Any lawyer here that can confirm this?

I suggest that don't delay any more...quickly lodge a police report to prevent more victims for this con.
