Just back from an errand, driving visibility is so bad that many turn on their headlights. Very smokey air, hardly can breath....have to cancel all evening plans, just stay home & turn the air-con on :(

It's strange that we dare to ask our neighbour (LKY) to apologise for a 'wrong' statement but on the other hand is so scared to ask our other neighbour who is 'killing us slowly' every year with this terrible haze to apologise. Where is the logic? Or are we trying to show that we are a really good neighbour who doesn't mind even if the actions of the other party can bring hazards to the health of our own citizens?

Sometimes I do equate those culprits being as offensive as drug traffickers, perhaps should be threatend with the same penalty and exposing enviromental hazard to ALL here and its been going on & on! The authorities are either deaf and its obviously doing NOTHING!.

They're doing nothing alright but if it were Spore that's the culprit, then we're certainly gonna need more than an apology from them. We'd demand compensation for the medical bills incurred, distress caused and lost of outdoor activity opportunities, amongst others! Ya, we gonna go there and kick their a**!! :D

Yeap, mate, they certainly are facing it as well.
What I had meant was, if Spore were the culprits instead of you-know-who, then we'd be making a helluva noise to get them to stop, including - yes, you got that right - asking for an apology :D . But as it is, the powers-that-be are so relaxed about it...it is as if it's the right thing for our neighbours to do!! :(

You are right. If I remember correctly, we even sent fire-fighters and money to curb these fires in previous years! If LKY were to light his mosquito coil in his patio, a demand would be made for him to apologize for polluting our air.

I just wonder why the two "victims" arent joining together to deal with this problem...between the two of them they have to have some political and economic clout.
the worst haze was in 97, correct? Methinks that doctors might be monitoring increased rates of respiratory ailments since then....I mean, this stuff could be really making us sick and we dont know about it...
I remember the environment ministry in my home province of Ontario, Canada saying that air pollution kills 1, 500 people prematurely in the province every year.
And, in Ontario they dont have to deal with haze, black diesel smoke, palm oil plantations, open burning, or 2stroke motorcycle engines. Id worry about how many Malaysians are dying prematurely because of air pollution?
I worry that I might die prematurely because of air pollution...I dont have a car, I walk alot...heck, with the haze as it has been, I might even get hit by a car because of the low visibility :p

IMHO, There never was any clear indication to the rakyat about solving the root of haze problem, only crisis management plans and talk cock most of the time. I reckon haze is going to be a annual or bi-annual affair in future.
Heck!, they can't even get their priorities and waste management right, which contributes to our country far from being progressive as our neighbors.
I can only wonder what lessons if any from past year's haze are they learning?..
This is no joke folks!..I HATE THE HAZE!..its making me DAMN SICK!.

That decision belongs to the headmasters" and his Ox educated deputy call their Indon friends to "Minta maaf" for "killing us softly with their haze". The new theme song for VM 2007, whereby the tourists can to swim around Shah Alam TTDI "the world largest man made swimming pool", view world class multiple billboards per square km in PJ, and the wonderful seasonal view and fresh smell of haze around Malaysia. :D :D :D

MANILA, Philippines - The World Health Organization on Thursday called on governments to improve air quality in their cities, saying air pollution prematurely kills two million people a year, with more than half the deaths in developing countries.

His (Azmi) remarks is a foolish remarks he and many others including "bapa penyakit ayam". As a leader one should foresee and act like a leader in planning, monitoring situation. This is not about one week occurrence it has been, when I first know smog back in 1993 and he took over the post not yesterday or last month. What a leader ... ?
If he and the Indon were to place forest rangers at high altitutde along the border line this thing would have not been seasonal.
At this time of writing from my place looking over to Cyberjaya/Putrajaya I wonder have "they" gone back home or are they working today.
Hey, pal ... I hardly see 1Km away !!!. Goodness gracious ....

The haze has been our scourge for many years now. And each time it comes around we say that it comes from forest fires burning in a neighbouring country (we don’t mention names because we are polite people). Our elected reps go out to the media and make statements to inform us of how many “hot spots” there are in that neighbouring country....Bottom line. Nothing definite is ever achieved.
But on the other hand…
Some senile politician from another neighbouring country makes some dumb-ass statement about Malaysian Chinese being marginalised and the whole Putrajaya goes ape ****. Apologies are demanded. The Prime Minister writes a stern letter of admonishment. The Foreign Minister calls for blood. The aging Youth flers probably waved some menacing keris-es around.

I reckon the government now knows Malaysians are indeed FED-UP!..so?
Now, we have our friend DPM pushing for Asean Haze Fund?..for what?..fight the forest fires when we're all starting to choke one or 2 times annually?. This only means they are helpless and are not able to address the root cause..that is..the forest or estate burning CULPRITS themselves and that includes the Indon govenment themselves as guilty as hell!
What more can I say?..I've spoken my mind!.
