Just to share a tip from one of the Taiwanese show - Good Idea on how to get rid of those fishy smell on your hand after preparing seafoods.
After making coffee, keep the used coffee beans. Whenever u find your hand got awful smell after you cut fish, garlic, etc., you can just rub in the used bean on your hand. After that just rinse off with water. This tip can be used on tupperware too. Is the same, just used the bean to rub the tupperware then rinse off. No soap is needed.
I have personally try this tip and it is very useful. Try it! ;)

Hi Brownsugar,
Can we use the grinded coffee beans (the ones used to make local coffee, or kopi) with the same effect?
Also, this reminds me of an episode of "Queer Eye for A Straight Guy". At the end of each episode, each of the Fab5 has a tip for the viewers. In one episode, they advised to just rub your hands on your stainless steel sink. Apparently, this helps to remove the garlic smell from your hands.
I've not had the chance to try it out, forgot about it actually. Just wondering... has anyone tried this? Does it work?

All you need to do to get rid of smells from your hands would be to rub your hands with soap, then rub your fingers on some metal surface like the sink surface or tap, wash off, and that's all there is to it. Some time back, someone decided to sell stainless steel 'soap' to help get rid of smells. It's the same thing, but marketted to make money off those who don't know that any other steel surface will work the same.

I guess I'll be trying out the stainless steel sink trick too.
Hard to get hold of coffee beans... the only coffee I make is the 3-in-1 type!
No coffee beans to extract from there.... hahahah! :)

How about a quick fix for the smell on the fish itself? Sometimes after the fish is cooked it still has that "hanyir" smell, especially when cooked with minimal ingredients, such as when making steam fish.

For me, I always give my fish a quick "rinse" in boiling water before steaming it. Gets rid of the fishy smell. Since you're gonna boil some water to steam the fish anyway, just boil a bit more lar... Don't dunk the whole fish in the water. Just lay it on the plate, and use a ladle to scoop the boiling water and pour it over your fish. Throw away the water and then the fish is ready for steaming.
Other option, steam your fish with some other ingredients... like ginger, chinese mushrooms, preserved vegetables, etc...
Good luck!

Kah kah kah! Firefly sure is funny! :D
For me, I just love cooking! Weekdays, usually gotta cook something simple 'cos I get back home about 6 plus after work. Weekends, try to cook something special or stuff that takes longer preparation time.
Hubby thinks I'm funny sometimes... I'll be eating b'fast and thinking about what to cook for lunch or dinner... watching tv at night, thinking about what to cook tomorrow!! Hehehe... :p
My cooking ok lar... like to experiment a lot... poor hubby ends up as guinea pig! Fortunately, it usually works out.
But hard to cook for 2 persons lar... have learnt to freeze up food now. Ideas for quick-fix meals much appreciated! But I hate to cheat when cooking by using instant sauces and stuff like that... but what to do, sometimes have to do it also due to time constraint... sigh! :o
