I sent my maid back in August 24th for two weeks and last night My sis and her kid went to LCCT to greet her. my maid did not board the plane. my sis waited and waited till past midnight. My sis left pj at 9.30pm and drove all the way there just to find out that my maid did not come back.

Frankly speaking, this is quite usual. Did your sis keep partial of her money like the fare for the return tkt? My maid is going back soon, i will retain partial of her money for the return tkt. I already prepared myself that she MIGHT not come back.

Hope your sis is ok now.

She might have some problem with the so called "surat cuti" in Indo.

My maid had missed flight for that reason where another "surat cuti" from Indo is needed (the reason given is - the original one from their Duta in Malaysia is not valid).

She had heated arguement with them but still;

(1) missed flight for that day
(2) pay the money for so called "surat cuti"
(3) purchase another ticket for next day (Air Asia ma!)
(4) Airlines ask for the surat cuti - the original one that issued by their Duta
in Malaysia
(5) 02 trips to LCCT!!

My maid just got back from her 2 weeks leave in Indonesia. And guess what... the jokers back there tried to pull this "surat cuti" thingy on her too. Said that her letter is not valid and that she shud get a new one from the Immigration there... and that she shud surrender the one that she has to them. Luckily my maid called back and asked for advice... Told her to tell those agency pricks to get lost, and to tell them that she would report them.

Another thing - please advise your maids know that they should arrange for their families to meet them in JKT or risk taking the "sanctioned" travel/transport people back home and getting conned into paying 2 to 3 times more halfway or being threatened to be left in the middle of nowhere if they don't pay !!

Seriously... these bastards over there knows that when maids return home for visits - they are either carrying a lot of cash or have access to a lot of cash in their accounts... and most of these maid NEVER argue or get confrontational when confronted with these conmen and so called agents.

This "surat cuti" is a letter which is issued by the KBRI to verify that the worker is going back to Indonesia for a short holiday, therefore EXEMPTING the worker to pay a EXIT TAX or FISKAL when they come back from Indonesia. This FISKAL or EXIT TAX is Rp1,000,000. ( Rp 1 million = RM410 )

Now explain, why are these agents and airport officials, demanding that these workers pay up to Rp 1 million for letters that are supposed to exempt them from paying the EXIT TAX in the first place...

Because these conmen know, that most of these workers returning - are simple people that will not know how or what to do or say in this instance...

Every freaking year my maid goes back, I hear horror stories from her about these so called officials (trying to make a quick Rp from her.... ). Thankfully - this time she wised up and confronted them. Also managed to get my colleagues in CGK airport to see to her exit formalities...

Family members had to be papa or mama only loh, not uncle, untie or even brother where so called special transportation will be arranged.

Additional Information.... for those who wants to know...

KBRI = Kedutaan Besar Republik Indonesia (EMBASSY)

Surat Cuti = Untuk Pengecualian Fiskal (Exit Tax) = Issued Free of Charge. Submit form today - collect it next day... No questions/ no compromise. Just ask the guard where to get the Surat Cuti... it is on the 1st Floor, LEFT side of the building ( and not on the RIGHT, where the Indonesians gather for their replacement passports and travel papers... )

Please DO NOT forget to photocopy the maid's passport and work permit page. Otherwise you WILL be in a HECK of a QUEUE at the embassy. Nearest photocopy machine from the embassy .... IMBI ROAD ! :p Btw, photocopy prices oso RIPOFF at the embassy... RM1 for a half A4 page!

Parking.... METERED, slip road just before the embassy. 50 sen per hour...
Parking.... Another RIPOFF, Indian Restaurant beside the embassy (RM5 per entry !)

Another thing: I mentioned about the family members to meet with returning maid - I've confirmed it. It has to be IMMEDIATE FAMILY members only. ie FATHER, MOTHER, BROTHER or SISTER with ID or letter from the village head or KETUA KELURAHAN (? must be local term for penghulu.. :p )

Otherwise, your maids will be heading back home with the "sanctioned/official" transporter.... with hidden/additional charges at halfway point. For those sending their maid back via CGK/JKT. Please note that they will be bussed to Terminal Three to be processed AGAIN and not through the normal passengers terminal...

Hopefully those who is sending their maids back before/during/after Raya will get this HEADS UP with regards to the situation there. Need more info... PM me lorr...

:(

Sometimes we forget that maids are also humans. Are we to treat them as we please just because we pay them a salary?

My maid is called KAKAK in my house because that is how our kids is taught to address her. She is part of the family and has been for the last 4 years... As far as I am concerned, she is truly the "pembantu" and not "orang gaji" or servant... that term should have stayed in the pre-independence era...

I also think a little respect and understanding would also go a long way - both ways...

So think about it... while you're enjoying the meal - from her hard earned balance money...

we treat her as a fren not a maid. but the balance money that i said she left in the bank account was for her to come back so that she can save somemore. We thought that she was coming back to continue.

USJ27Resident, i agree with you, they are human. i treat my maid well too and my kids call her AUNTIE. She is treated like our family. But sometime, we treat her well, they take it for granted, still think that we cheated her or things liddat. I feel very heartache when this happen. I got to put up with her black face, sometime wondering whether m i the worker.

Anyway, there are all kinds of pple in the world. sometime its our luck to meet them.

BTW, i need to know whether there is a way to find out whether her WP is ready for collection. Agent has been telling me soon and soon, but still no news yet. Can i call up the authorities myself to check? Also i need to confirm that while doing up the surat cuti, i dun have to leave her original passport and WP with the agent, which means i can take back and juz give the agent the photocopy to go ahead with the surat cuti?

thanks for your advice.

Next time, do the WP yourself... cheaper & faster... just drive to Imm. Putrajaya... 15min - done! Btw... Fomema checks not necessary for maids after 3rd year... Agents overcharge and sometimes can take their blardy sweet time....

I think you can call the Imm...

You gonna need to bring the passport and the photcopies of the necessary valid WP page for her SURAT CUTI.... for a visual verification.

When I got my maid, I made her sit down and asked her one thing - WHY WAS SHE HERE IN MALAYSIA? and WHAT DOES SHE WANT OR EXPECT IN THIS HOUSE? I got my answers and things have been fine ever since...

Dear USJ27Resident,

Glad to hear that Fomema check is not required after 3 years of service. Is it a new ruling? Can we renew maid's WP directly with Imm. PutraJaya? I hope you can advise us on this. My maid has been with us for close to 4 years, it's time to renew her WP, with this new ruling, we can save $ => :) .

Additional questions: Her passport is expiring in E/Sept 2007 whereas the WP ends E/Oct and she does not want to continue beyond 2007. How to work out the payment to Imm.? Is bank available somewhere near Imma Putra Jaya for bank draft?

Sorry for asking you so much questions. It's Ok if you do not have the answers for all questions.

Thanks and regards

For the benefit of some forumers, I had renewed the working permit for my maid @ PutraJaya and following are the answers to my own questions:

Additional questions: Her passport is expiring in E/Sept 2007 whereas the WP ends E/Oct and she does not want to continue beyond 2007. How to work out the payment to Imm.?
I was allowed to renew her WP for 10 months. There should be 1 month grace period before her passport's expiry. (This was done @ PutraJaya, I heard different condition applies @ other branches, anyone care to share or verify?)
The payment work out to be 30 x 10 months =300, plus other cost => Total RM385. Payment for 1 year is RM445.

Is bank available somewhere near Imma Putra Jaya for bank draft?
The neasrest Bank available is Affin Bank next to Ministry of Finance parcel and opposite PjH building, about 1 KM away from Immigration Dept.

Additional Info: Confirmed. Maids do not need Fomema examination 3rd year onwards :) .

I Hope the above can help some of the forumers.

Talking abt Fomema exams, the maids a send to any clinic that's on the Fomema list. I don't think Fomema itself does the exam. The maid agency can send the maids to as many different clinics (as long as they are listed in Fomema).

Just sharing my experience, happened in late Oct/ early Nov last year. After my 1st maid finished her 3rd year and gone back, the 2nd maid arrived (there was a 2 week gap). She arrived over the weekend and the agency send her for Fomema exam on Mon. As we were outstation, we only picked her on Wed.
Luckly that Sat we send her for exam at a private hosp in Jln Ampang. They have a maid screening package (blood test & Xray). Turned out the maid was pregnant.

We showed the report to the Agency and they had the report from the Fomema clicnic which said the maid all ok. Anyway, agency changed the maid FOC. Had to go thru a 5-6 weeks gap till the new maid arrived. Meantime the agency offered temp maids.... temp maids that's another story (good & not so good).
