So says a study carried out by Spore's Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

Their ranking of the top 10 economies in Asia for 2005:

1. Hong Kong
2. Taiwan
3. Singapore
4. Guandong
5. Malaysia
6. Shanghai
7. Thailand
8. Beijing
9. Zhejiang
10. Macao

The IPS-NTU study also noted

- that Spore is the clear leader in overall competitiveness among the 10 Asean economies from 2005-2005.
- that Malaysia "almost" closed the gap with Singapore in the "business environment" factor in 2005 (the other factors are economy, govt and institutions and social environment)
- none of the Indian states emerged among the overall top-ranked 15 economies in Asia

So, maybe Malaysia is getting there - slowly, but surely. In its own way and in its own style, without being beholden to anybody.

Which would make a lot of people choke over their teh tarik and roti canai! :D

provinces in china vs countries competitiveness ladder

unfathomable, perhaps they need to compare apple with apple instead of apple with water melon seeds

maybe these academics have nothing better to do -just to fullfill their quotas on research papers
