[QUOTE=Nic_of_Time]This is another consequence of tidak-guna-otak planning.
It's just one of many cases where people take the law into their own hands.....
The employee should also lodge a police report.....

Already they have already created jams and a parking mess around the area.
In the long run Mydin's lack of consideration for limited parking lots may even lead them to close-shop.

really, i would love that, close shop, quiet and peaceful roads again :D
but i think the lack was on control from day 1, put few polis and mpsj there and write saman til the fingers crack - gotta make a clear statement from the beginning to road users; but stop, not very clever, sorry. why not make them believe it's ok to park there and after 2 weeks make lots of $$$, yes thats the way to go

say mydin sold sunsilk shampoo at rm3.90 on 28th aug and rm 5.89 on 5th sept did not mention that giant actually sold one day offer on 28th aug at rm4.90 so i guess mydin lawan balik at rm 3.90
and on 5th sept giant went back to normal price ieat rm7.99 so mydin went back to normal price rm 5.89
let truth be told says smart shopper
only problem i think mydin no budget la to pick a fight on press ad

I think it is a bit overboard now with these price war ads...
Initially, is 3 hypermarket fighting..I think everyone can see clearly both Carrefour and Giant show prices of SELECTED goods in the trolley, each claiming theirs are the cheapest.......but was done quite ethically or friendly (without disclosing the name out thought all of us can associate the style of handwriting)
Now seem like Giant's main competitor is Mydin...I think Mydin goes too far.. comparing the prices like no one else... showing out Giant's name in the ads. Come on.....I think we all would not be fooled by these price comparison ads. It is obvious that each of them will select the LOWEST PRICED items to compare. I dare to challenge any of the Hypermarket management to proof or to advertise that ALL items sold in the store is the CHEAPEST. No one can do that!

frankly if anyone wants to take up this -i will be willing to bet that mydin would be cheaper
only condition do not include fresh items as it would be subjective
as i have been observing the prices and giant prices are really YO YO while i notice mydin matches for PRICE and DURATION and than mydin goes back to normal price
did someone see the chart that mydin printed on the squids =that was interesting

Giant's flyer (Sept 21-22, 2006) :
"Mydin's claim that their prices are stable for two weeks but check-out their leaflet! Don't be misled by Mydin. Buy at Giant. Lowest Prices!"
Wow, such a daring and broad-daylight advertisment.
What happen to AAAA's Code of Ethic for Ads?
Why no one is suing anyone for name-calling style ads?
Looks like Consumer & shoppers are taken for a ride.

I just came back from Giant...and to my surprise, Giant is sending their staff to distribute flyers at the traffic light!!!!! Where is the enforcement officer doing? How can they go overboard like this?
Also, just wonder where is all the enforcement officer doing when they have huge income potential in front of the MyDin Mall....the cars are parking along both side of the road, creating unneccessary traffic congestion. Why MPSJ don't just pay some overtime to its officer and generate extra incomes????

I think that Mydin should be slapped with a hefty fine or closed until they rectify the problems of their parking lots. It is so obvious that they are flouting the laws on number of parking lots per nett lettable space. Why did MPSJ approve it in the 1st place? A culture of tutup satu mata or corruption?

Could this be a situation where non-bumis are marginalized? The cars are creating unwanted traffic congestion....and yet no one care to truck away these car..... comparing to Taipan Commercial Centre where majority of the shops are operated by non-bumis, the MPSJ officer so alert.... truck ready everyday....What say u, Pak? They both do not respect supplier and they treat all customeres as walking cash machine who contribute money to them but they offer poor facilities - stuffy shopping area, no parking lots. I have been to Mydin about 5 times and am enjoying the visits not cos of its prices but the layout and friendly staff, the welcoming party, ample parking lots (in the mornings) good food especiallythe Malay savouries. Also of the varities of spices and vegetables and the bread from Federal bakery makes an ideal place for me.
Btw i dont encounter any traffic problems as I dont live in USJ and do my shopping in the morning. Carrefour I can go anytime as there are ample parking lots. Timing is important just like I stay put on public holidays.

[rela- rela is a service available to everybody
all u need to do is ask them and pay them
i saw them at tesco ampang when they opened
i asked them they are paid around rm40per day plus meal allowance
so i guess usj assoc can do it if they can afford it
mydin parking problem -i think people should stop harping on the same problem as this been over stated
1. mpsj has minimum parking requirement and i am sure mydin would have met them
2. it would be foolhardy for them not to because it can be easily verified
3. i feel that the only mistake mydin made was underestimated its popularity and thereby did not have extra parking for its customers
4. give them sometime i am sure they are looking for space somewhere to get more parking for the customers as more parking means more business
5. stop complaining about jams because (a)that area ie giant traffic light has always been a 'jam' area for the last 4 years -i have a warehouse there and go thru it everyday of course mydin coming there does not help the jam (b) all of us have a choice but just because some of u can not stand the jam than do not go let others go who do not mind as they might be getting a good buy etc (c)eveytime sogo/metro/jusco sale the whole road is jammed up , everytime something happens in midvalley the whole federal highway is messed up , recently MATTA fair the whole PWTC is messed up -so people who want to get a good bargain let them pay for it thru going thru a bad jam why are some people sitting and typing in a laptop harping over the same issue -take alternative route if it affects u mental sanity
5. why not be a smartshopper -go early or after 9pm normally ample parking available
6. park at summit for rm1.00 and walk if u feel it is worth your time and money
7. let and let live ' give the choice to the people
8. i see mpsj vehicle giving summons every weekend to cars park on the road at mydin frontage and not at giant frontage -can sommone explain why -so let us not bring race and non-bumi marginalised in every issue /unneceessary to flare this racial issue the country has enough problems as it is
9. i am a usj resident and this is the first time in many years (a) a hypermarket celebrates merdeka -my children enjoyed going on stage and singing negara ku at midnight (b) there was a free anuar zain concert i think 2 weeks ago -that would have cost mydin a bomb (for those who can afford to pay for big concerts fine (need to go thru jam also anyway ) but there are others in this world ie the marginilized few u may say who do not mind the jams for a freebie (c) i am told MAWI is coming today to mydin to launch a new product and sing a few songs , also mydin giving 6k people free food -they call it buka puasa with USJ residents ( another cost to get a big star like MAWI plus free food)-has any hypermarket or even USJ associations done that

RELA IS NOT A SECURITY FIRM
RELA CANNOT BE EMPLOYED TO LOOK AFTER YOUR RESIDENCE
RELA RECEIVE ALLOWANCE FROM THE GOVT
RELA / PEOPLE'S VOLUNTEER CORPS IS UNDER MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS.
Pls contact : Tuan Hj Musa (Rela Daerah Petaling) at 03-5519 2685 for accurate role of RELA
PROFILE
* Ikatan Relawan Rakyat Malaysia (RELA) or People’s Volunteer Corps was formed as a voluntary government security apparatus on 11 January 1972 under the Emergency (Essential Powers) Act 1964 (Security Force) Change of Name and Amendments 1974.
* RELA was established to provide opportunities for patriotic citizens to become members of a government security agency which was formed to assist, maintain and safeguard peace and security in the country.
* Its establishment is consistent with the philosophy that the responsibility of defending the sovereignty and independence of the country is in the hands of its own citizens, with all citizens playing their respective roles.
MISSION
To mobilize a voluntary force to assist the security agencies in the maintenance of peace and security in the country
OBJECTIVE
To help maintain peace and security in the country and the well-being of its people
ROLES
Area defence using the concept adopted by the Home Guard, ie to maintain peace and security of an area until relieved by the security force.
This role covers:
Security and defence of important targets in areas of responsibility, if any.
Evacuation of the general public to safe areas.
Psychological warfare duties in terms of monitoring parties suspected to be fifth columnists in areas of responsibility.
Crime prevention duties in areas of responsibility until relieved by the police.
RELA manpower can also be mobilized for various purposes according to the skills available. Among the skills identified are:-
Carpentry and construction
Technicians
Drivers (heavy and light)
Weapon skills
With a majority of its members under 40 years of age, RELA provides ‘ready materials’ for national mobilization.
Although RELA was formed as a security apparatus to help the country in times of emergency, in times of peace, it focuses its attention on:
* Security matters
* Community development (RELA BAKTI Project)
During times of peace, its security duties encompass the concept of the EYES AND EARS OF THE GOVERNMENT, which functions as follows:
* Collecting and providing important information to the relevant government agencies such as the police, Customs, UPP, and Immigration regarding any elements that might pose a threat to the security of an area.
* Conducting crime prevention patrols to maintain and preserve the peace and security of an area.
When the situation warrants it, making citizen’s arrest of undesirable persons to be handed over to the relevant authorities.
RELA members are empowered:-
When authorized by the proper authorities to bear weapons including firearms and to use them in the execution of their duties. “Without weakening the powers and duties under any other written laws, arresting without warrant, a terrorist or undesirable person or any person who has reasonable cause to be suspected to be an undesirable person and to hand over the terrorist or such person to the nearest police officer or a member of the security force.”
ROLES OF RELA IN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Intensifying its involvement in local community work, particularly in fields that can produce beneficial effects in terms of psychological actions or warfare.
The fields selected are:
* Rehabilitation and construction of houses for the poor to help the Government reduce poverty.
* Large-scale blood donation campaign to assist the Government’s health programmes. Assisting specific agencies to provide basic facilities (minor projects) to rural areas.
* Campaign to eliminate crop pests in rural areas.
RELA also has a role to play during times of natural disasters such as floods, fires and storms.

All these hypermarkets are nothing but big crooks. They put some carrots dangling (cheap items) for the naive consumers, by then rob them with high price on some items or make their profits with their tempting displays of trash food and rejected toys. They change the prices at whims and fancies by playing with their computers. No price tags on the items. They torture their foreign and East Malaysian workers with long working hours and low pay.
They blackmail the desperate suppliers to sell at a dirt cheap price and ask for min 60 days term but only pay them after 90 or 120 days.
I just love watching them fight desperately like kids. If real war, better still. And this one hypermarket that belongs to some Hongky B******S are really insensitive especially when comes to festivals. Last year during Deepavali & Hari Raya, they decorated their premises for Hari Raya, Christmas & CNY with only one small poster written “Happy Deepavali” and sticking it at the beer shelves. How insensitive this b******s are! Now with another equally cunning hypermarket beside them, this Honky B******S are behaving like a fish out of water. So childish and stupid.
My favorite place of shopping is Koh Hai San. They are reasonable and most importantly they are genuine. Don’t accept credit cards, Its OK, No problem!

wow, that place is big...
of course I was just passing by on the bus (route 523), there was no jam and I guess it wasnt crowded though this was a holiday (yesterday).
Mydin is big...and impressive. Id like to see what it looks like inside...and it's great to know I can get there by bus.
Giant, Summit, Mydin, and Courts Mammoth is right next door...no wonder there were jams....but malaysians are adaptable, methinks.

also, their prices (Mydin's) tend to be lower than Giant's at least on the day i was there. a box of cadbury chocolate was about RM3 cheaper! same with some brands of detergents! milk power was also cheaper (at least as far as the brand enfakid is concerned, anyway) and some other products as well. but fresh milk was slightly higher. guess i'll be shopping at mydin from now, at least till Giant reduces their prices! :D
ps i have no loyalty. i go where the lowest prices are! :p

I had occasion to go to Mydin's to buy an Energiser battery charger. The same charger in Giant (only one left) was about RM100 more expensive. That's a heck of a lot of difference. I don't know if Giant placed the wrong price tag on it since the service personnel whom I asked, asked another, asked another, and I couldn't be bothered to wait for the repetition to die down.

unless you have a checklist of cheaper prices, one can never be sure if prices are indeed 'cheap'. It is known that there will be some really cheap deals in any one of the hypermarts but the rest of the stuff are either at standard retail rates or even higher to balance the equation.
And beware of the stuff they stack in the aisles - it is a common error of shoppers to think that suff stacked in the walkways are going on sale with 'lelong' prices. No, it is usually a supermart ploy to make the customer think of those as over-stocked products and hence going for cheaper prices. All social psychology really. Some of us get fooled easily.

yeah, i found some cheap stuff at mydin too, like i managed to get pringles at RM 2.99 during my last visit and also this nivea lip balm was selling at RM 5 something only (usual price will be at around RM 7.90), is consider cheap as compared some other hypermarket. Giant is little more pricey nowadays and also i dun like the way they put up so many stall all around the corner, so pack and sometimes always jam trolley.

Just stop spending money like an addict. Most of us buy things that we dont really need. We go shopping just to waste time. Buy things just to do something. Like there is too much money and then put all the stuff in the cabinet. In the next few months put it in the garage sale.

I guess maybe both Giant and MyDin has became friends. Currently, seldom we see they hit each other...... this may to our disadvantage. :(
Last night when I was on my way to the Summit, I saw Giant's advertising billboard on the main road showing something like this "whole raw chicken $6.99, & next to it Johnson baby milk bath $15.99, located next to Giant billboard is Mydin''s billboard with a LCD screen on it, the LCD showing an arrow pointing directly to Giant's billboard & reads like this "whole raw chicken $6.49, Johson baby milk bath $14.99.
(sorry if I quoted the price slightly wrong)

I GO TO MYDIN, MAINLY FOR IT'S COMFORTABLE FOOD COURT :) :) :) .
OTHER THAN THAT, NOT MUCH THINGS TO PRAISE. THE PARKING SPACE IS LOUSY, SMALL & LIMITED. THE GROCERIES PRICING ARE MAJORITY MORE EXPENSIVE THAN GIANT & C4    - A REAL INSULT TO THEIR CUSTOMERS INTELIGENT

The food court in MYDIN may be cozy but nothing much of choices. Food quality so so only. Still prefer hawker food outside. :D

Went to Mydin today, they have opened up a large empty area at the back for parking. The parking is definitely easier now.
Just notice that the price of Rejoice shampoo was rm2 cheaper in KHS cash n carry than in Giant. That is 22% difference in just 1 item. Raw cashew nut is abt rm40/kg in giant and 40% lower at KHS. Most other thing are cheaper in KHS as well and the only definite difference is that it is non air con.....what the heck when doing shopping at night.

To my observation, Giant is not seen as reinventing themselves and their prices are still on the high side, even worse the prices of same items are different across it different stores Klang Valley wide eventhough they can be only 10-20 miles apart..weird!. Anyway, I don't see Giant as a bargain or unique place anymore and its just plain BORING! I could say I see special or unique products at Jusco, (not every of their branches)Tesco and Mydin. Jusco at IOI is TERRIBLE!
Other comments about Mydin: Nasi Kandar is NOT CHEAP, and like Kayu, poppadam AIN'T FREE! I've found that Klang Valley NK is getting one of the most expensive nasi campur food these days. Nasi Beryani is now RM9 average..tak masuk akal price.
Food court food quality is just edible to BAD!..run of the mill quality at the asking prices. I'll say you're joking if you say its good to excellent..you've been in the jungle for too long.

Found out that 99 Speed Mart Sdn Bhd in Taipan also sells their stuff at better than Giant prices...
Yeo's UHT tetrapaks 6x4 RM14.90, Giant - RM18.90  Now thats a difference of RM4.00 per carton,
Even rice, milk and bread is cheaper than Giant... how?

I found Giant giving better pricing for juices and milk where it is almost a ringgit or more at Carrefour and Jusco. This is for H* milk and the Marig*** juices where it is around RM4.19 and RM6.40 each respectively compared with RM4.69 and RM7.50.

Unless you regularly go to Giant JUST to purchase milk or juices ONLY, it is hard to make a comparison, some things they sell cheaper some more expensive. To be able to compare which is cheaper, you need to do all of your grocery shopping in one place and then go to another chain and purchase the exact same item and quantity to be more objective. As some has pointed out its just a marketing ploy by the hypermarkets...
sometimes i think they all berkomplot.. one hypmermarket sell certain stuff cheap and another sell some non competing item cheap... :D

^^ You have a point there. Maybe instead of prices, we should also consider other factors like services rendered, etc. I saw a recent thread about misleading pricing by Carrefour so that maybe a minus point for them.
Anyway, my ranking are Tesco > Carrefour > Giant. I dunno about MyDin, never shopped there before.

In some outlets they actually posted the picture of the competitive General Manager...the picture looks like 1 of those wild wild west Wanted DEad or Alive {Poster!..
It says...This person is BANNED in this outlet!
And the competitor will do the same...they watched out & banned competitors from coming to their outlet and spied on the pricing!
:D :D all jolly good for the consumers. :D

hey, I have found a cheaper place to do my groceries. In Klang, there is á minimarket "Speedmart 99". I find their things are equal or cheaper than most hypermarket. For example, cat and dog food, the 1.7kg Misha Cat Food is only RM9.30 and 3.35kg Minka dog food is only RM14.90.This is cheaper than Giant 1.5kg whiskas at RM16.25 and Pedigree 2kg of RM17.90. However, it is just a 2 shop lots minimarket and no aircon so it is a place for value buying.

I've found Speedmart 99 having stores in many places. USJ10 Taipan (obvious), PJ old town (converted double storey house), and behind Guinness Anchor factory.
I've observed the Taipan branch is doing very well and I bought my Sunlight dishwashing liquid for RM3.99, Giant is 4.49....increased back from offer price at 3 something 2-3 weeks ago.
I'm not going to patronize Mydin as often as I desire as I'm irked when I think back they showed full support to you know which political party by openly selling those supporter T-shirts. Second is they hyped up support for boycott of Dutch produce in retaliation of the video clip. Whats more to say..nothing!..I won't patronize them.
Jacob's creamcrackers is rm0.50 cheaper in s99. Carrefour's at rm4.50. Have to know which value item to pick though...

I agree that the brand is different but the quality of the cat and dog food is better than the whiskas and pedigree that i used to buy.

My sentiment exactly. Great minds think alike. :)
Anyhow for meat I usually buy at the wet market. They are fresh and cheap. For mah yau yee (what'sthatinenglish?) or Kurau, it used to be $10 per kilo. Now it is $12-14 per kilo but it is still cheaper than these markets selling at $25 and above. Black bawal is below $10 too.
However for Salmon, it is still Tesco Puchong. I do not seem to be able to find them elsewhere at their price.
