Hi all ..I am new here.

Not sure if this is the correct forum to post but I need some urgent info.
I am looking to buy a Video Casette Recorder(VCR) of any brand. I have looked in so many places but can't find any. So many electronic shops say VCRs are not in market anymore. My old VCR is faulty and cannot be repaired as it is an old model. I need a VCR badly as I often record TV programmes such as series and football matches when I am too busy to watch. I have thought about buying a DVD Recorder but they are too expensive and I have so many video tapes(about 100!) which contains recordings I still need. So anyone know where I can buy a VCR in KL/Selangor area ? I know there are many electronic shops in Subang area. So if anyone knows any shops that still sell them, do inform me. I will also consider buying a second-hand VCR provided it is in good condition and with a reasonable price. An electronic shop I know say the current price of a new VCR is RM375 but they are out of stock.

Need this info urgently. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for you reply. But can you confirm if they are selling ? I have been to many big supermarkets and malls but they all don't sell VCR anymore. I suspect the big malls like Carrefour won't sell the outdated things like VCR as they only sell things that are hot in today's market. I think only the average electronic shops might still have the VCR from their old stock. The electronic shop I go regular to, was still selling VCRs until late last year. But that time, I managed to repair my old VCR, so thought no need to buy a new one. But the repaired VCR only functioned for about 6 months and now I am back to square one. Can't believe I will be the only one in Klang Valley still using VCR to record TV programmes. Aren't there no one else still looking to buy one ?

I bought my last VCR from Onking in Puchong Jaya about 2 years ago. Still usable but has been repaired once. Not sure whether still selling it or not. Why not call the companies directly (Sony, JVC, Hitachi etc) and ask.

After spending so much time and effort, I have managed to buy a VCR ! :p
I bought it from a electronic shop in SS2. Just imagine it is their last stock !

For those who are still interested in VCR, there is a shop in Subang Jaya who are still selling it. The shop is Sykt Seng Brothers and they are in A4-G, Jalan SS15/8A.

Forgot to mention, the VCR I bought is a Panasonic brand(model : nv-mv22). Must say, the Panasonic customer service have been very helpfull in helping me find the dealers who still have stock. They even took the trouble to call me back to inform me. Excellent service ! You can also find the the dealer addresses from their website :

For one thing, SS2 is nearer for me compared to Subang Jaya and it is free of traffic jam, mind you :D . Also, I am more familiar with SS2 area as I used to study there. If not for these reasons I would have gone to that Subang shop as when I called them, the man answered in a polite manner and the price was also cheaper by RM20. Most of the shop I phoned replied in a rude manner as if they don't want to do business. I suspect all these shops are trying to force us to buy the more expensive DVD Recorder instead. Annoyingly enough, the first shop I went to in SS2 claimed it was out of stock eventhough I confirmed with them a day earlier. I decided to check this nearby shop and fortunately they had just 1 VCR. :)
