My friend had his 3 yrs old proton changed its throttle body, less than a year it failed again...those things are not cheap!

Everyone knows proton fails sooner or later with ridiculous faultiness...people have no choice other than buying it because its cheaper than other cars sold in Msia...if only its an open market, proton wont even be able to capture 5% of the market with its pricing!!!

As Alexhay mentioned either you are one real lucky guy or a rep from proton?!!! :(

Anybody wanna see a literally BRAND NEW Maroon Proton Wira SPECIAL EDITION with fender paintwork getting crinkled-special effects. Forgot to mention, a front windshield that has waterfall effect (when it was driven in the rain for the first time!) as the bottom part of the windshield mirror had NO mounting sealant , another way of getting wet INSIDE a car... :p

Ahh... also not to forget, the stick that juts out of the driving column (like mentioned on Mix.fm....) is called the indicator... :p Indicator doesn't reset itself after the turn is completed... :p

Wanna know more... :D It's parked in my driveway now...

Sorry la... just tongue in cheek @ 12:40 midnight !! I figure no point complaining anymore to Proton... they oso either fed-up of complaints or too thick skinned oredi... :p Might as well humor myself... :p

My family of 6 each drives an automobile. 3 are Proton owners and the other 3 non national car owners. The 3 proton owners all hv a myriad of problems in quality and/or performance and grouses within months of ownership in which the defects and liabilities are very well documented in Bolehland. The other 3 had relatively trouble free ownership of their non national vehicles until years down the road where the vehicles then require normal wear and tear rectifications and parts replacement. Good enuf statistics???

I havent gone into my extended family's vehicular statistical experience but if you really need me to, lemme know and I can 'enlighten' you with more. But I assure you, the poor 'statistics' and scenario of the national car remains unchanged and similar in fashion to the above. To top it all off, in my 20 over odd years of driving experience, I have NEVER, repeat, NEVER heard or hear of any positive, much less optimistic, remark of a Proton ownership experience. YOU, oldmanalex, is a first. (Perhaps you can enter into the Malaysia Book of Dubious Records for this). Confirms what is running thru everyone's minds here - that you are one hell of a lucky chap!

Should we all run helter skelter to TDM asap and break this piece of 'good' news to him that his pet project did work well....for once?

Mrs was also a proton owner.. 1st proton saga areoback..lucky..not much problem...only the plastic fitting keep coming off..then change to proton wira..Power window problem..both front were changed at least once a year after warranty until firefly got fedup and did some modification..hey presto no failure till we sold the car..then Waja...that had Mrs in a fix!!! the car locked itself with the owner inside the car 2 days after collecting the car  not once but a few times..then car was sent back to proton..and the problem pessist. then the powerwindow failed!!! (all withn the 1 yr period,) that was the last straw for Mrs Firefly...Wrote a really nasty letter to the head of servicing...then pound his table!!!!! :sadly it was firefly on the loosing end...firefly worried for her safety, changed to a optra...happiness...no more problems...2 years now and no porblems...firefly can sleep in peace without having an earfull of constant complains of car falure!!!!

You must be really lucky oldalex to have so many proton and no problems.

I always have this bad feeling about the proton campro engine. Thinking that this is a timed bom which may create the real dilema one day :o ...Partly because it is a brandnew engine plus having heard of some unfavorable feedbacks from some friends.

Does anyone has any bad experience about it ?

heard so much complains about Potong, but hardly any about Perodua.

Me & my wifey both drove a Perodua Kelisa, hers one is a auto, and mines a manual. Hers 3 years on the road, and mine 4 years on the road.

Until today we never encounter any problem with the cars at all...

I wonder why issit Perodua being a smaller car company and has lesser fund and less support from our gomen, are able to produce a much better quality cars compared to Potong?

Just compare the numbers of Myvi and Sawi on the road ;)

I need advice too. My 9 year old proton is rusting. Heard that there's absolutely no cure for it and it can eat away at my car like a sinister plague? Not even if I repaint it? Have repainted it once last year but the rusty parts are getting more obvious now. Please advice thanks.

ps: one thing I totally dislike about proton cars. The power windows. Always jammed. Sigh..But other than the usual problems, the car has been serving me well, has never broken down. Touch wood.

That is because the engine is Mitsubishi but the window is home design. Mitsubishi already had the engine well enhanced, while our home design never.....since wira till waja, still got WINDOW PROBLEM

lol... proton users should count themselves lucky with only power window problems. my perdana has had two gearbox changes now.... apparently proton "forgot" to include a cooler for the auto tranny, making it have a much shorter life span.... and gutless proton has NEVER issued a recall for units affected...
and let me tell you auto tranny's are not cheap....

There was a worldwide recall on Mitsubishi gearbox exactly the same as Perdana few years back but the CEO then Tengku Mahaleel declared that M'sia was not affected only the rest of world did. How st***d and bulls**t can that be... This what we called Malaysia Boleh..

Sickening eh. Each time someone else drives my car and accidentally winds down the window, my heart would miss a beat and my face changes color. Once it got stuck down for so long I had to use a huge black plastic bag to cover it from rain. And miraculously, it worked again after the rain. See.

I MUST BE HONEST,the reason I sold my Perdana in 2003 was due to gearbox problems.my replacement new kembara 1.3 auto breakdown near Summit with heavy traffic early morning.oh god, after tow to comfindence motor workshop,by afternoon I took delevery of the car and it breakdown again ,this time faderal highway, entrance to subang jaya.tow it again ,imagine your car tow twice in a day.finally it was a wire near the final drive which had expose and earth the eletric which silent the kembara.I nearly want to kembali the kembara to confindence motor if not the sales person is my good friend, and the kembara was 1 month old when it happen.

Mighty glad and relieved to hear that YOU are also part of the statistics, oldman.

I had nightmares of TDM gloating over your one and only 'success' story in the entire history of Proton. Join the club, oldman, and be in the company of millions of Proton owners who never had anything good to say abt the national car... :)

Any Savvy or Gen2 users here?

yeah im one of them. window driver side failed on me twice, passenger side once, the side mirror adjuster K.O. before.

my classmate's ECU K.O. had to change a new one. same fella gearbox cannot put to P. so when he park had to put to N. cos the proton ppl didnt wana take responsibility. said all kind of C&B stories tat it's not under warranty.

Remembered those days in school where rumours/jokes about what were proton cars made off?

I definitely still do, it goes like this:

Q: What do you think will happen if you scratched off the paintjob from a proton car?

A: You will see a graphic of a person swimming and a green colour background (base paint).

Proton= Milo tins.

It says much about perceptions on Proton cars.

Thus, Proton have to increase their efforts to improve the quality of the cars and ensure a great customer support base.

Perhaps a good marketing agency would help their reputation in the long run.

They have to learn to say no to the parts suppliers that give them sub standard parts. Maybe also need to get their responsible designers and competant engineers. Not them cost cutting ppl.

Another thing is to get the parts direct from the contractors. Many of the supplieras supply to their main suppliers and sometimes can be many tiers before reaching proton. Shorten the supply layer. If the main supplier cannot supply, cut them!!!!

Well, u said so urself. Its not the marketing, its the quality. And quality is not abt acquiring the TUV organization, sticking the TUV sticker on it and just call it quality. It must go thru stringent testing, QC, TQM, the works....heard of these Proton?

The nail on the coffin was when a Proton senior management fella once told me that he will NEVER, EVER BUY ANY PROTON VEHICLES as long as he lives. :p
