Pj residents become city folks .. urbanite and no more village people... do they end up paying more to the MBPJ ?

That's why all the residents associations are taking MBPJ to court for raising the taxes and not accountable for the expenses...

(one good thing abt this city day thingy.. free parking for today. Experienced it just now.. :D )

What the point of getting city status when crime rate remains high, local council officers are still spending without restrain, high taxes and minimum upgrade in infrastructure? With the extra autonomous power, we will see more green areas destroy for development in order to feed their own ambition.

How come this free parking thing is not publicised? Anyway, it is no big deal. I still paid parking today because the machines still churned out the parking tickets. May be I should go to Menara MPPJ to get reimbursement for the 60 sen I have paid. It is the principle and not the cost to ask for the reimbursement.

The problem about these Little Napoleons is small thing they brag, big thing they avoid, bigger thing they buat tak tahu and biggest thing they bury. I was invited to attend a private dinner by a body to celebrate this occasion but I turned it down. There is nothing to celebtrate because most of the things still remain unchanged or worse still gone backwards.

Benefits of being a city.

Mayor instead of YDP - higher pay, nicer clothes & accessories, bigger car
More councillors??
Can twin with another city instead of just a town - better for lawatan sambil belajar
Residents have the honour of paying more for the above

That is the first thing to increase as the argument that a house in a city will have a higher valuation and accordingly will attract a higer cukai pintu. In fact the first thing on the Bandaraya agenda is the proposal to increase the cukai pintu and the residents asked "Tell us whether the Council is improving their services and is prudent in its spending to deserve such increases. The Council's major part of its budget is funded by cukai pintu. On the argument that now that it has achieved a city status, its expenditure should increase and therefore they have to increase its assessment rates.

as far as i am concerned this is just a symbolic thing. there is no difference in PJ being a town or a city. they should instead not waste time and money on the ceremony and pay attention to fixing roads and improving public facilities instead of continue to be called PJ, Pothole-Jaya

Only if and when they have solved half of the problems that are existing around our town, then maybe more will feel more confident about this. But until then I dont think there is any difference too. Perhaps they should wake up from their slumber sleep already.

Hmm...maybe property prices in PJ will go up. I am eyeing a couple of units in IJM's PJ 8 development, across the road from the PJ Hilton. Good locality, and some of my favourite dosai/banana leaf/teh tarik places are nearby in Jln Gasing. :D

But I do wish the authorities would solve the problem of traffic jams on the Federal Highway, especially when it rains.

And spruce up the Tun Hussein Onn Eye Hospital while they are about it. The shabby interior and exterior does not do credit to one of the country's premier specialist eye hospitals.

And here's hoping that the new PJ Mayor and the MBPJ councillors actually hit the ground and make the rounds and take action, like their counterparts in Singapore!

Walking tour..??? My friend..no way... in this hot climate but a flying tour in the deserts of Egypt maybe.
I've yet to see a regular walking tour rounds to assess the conditions of our amenities. Ever heard of complaints to them not acted upon? So I do not know what this declaration of city status is any good for the residents.

sawasdee ..
pardon me for asking but why you all use "MBPJ" .. isn't it supposed to be "MPPJ" (majlis pandai pandai joli) and is subang jaya included in the city status .. da map in the papers just covers the old/new PJ which extend up to Damansara ..

Next in line will be Subang Jaya. Reasons:

We are in a developed state
We have world class hospitals
We have world class sports complexes
We have many tourist attractions (most expensive toilet, bird-brain park, jolly green elephant complex, etc)

Can anyone contribute more so that we can start a petition for Subang Jaya City.

If that's the case I will start a counter petition for Subang Jaya to acheive kampung status. I think it would be better for all of us....and i might even move back for good....

Personally, I don't care whether it is 'city' or 'kampung' status as long as the facilities are world class and we pay a reasonable price for them!
