Err...over the Fathers' Day weekend...a dear neighbour dropby to inform Orchi that...a snatch thief was knocked off his motorbike into a nearby drain n died in the incident...by a car driven by his victim of whom...he had earlier snatched her handbag off while she was about to drive off in her car at the front of her home in the early evening on last Friday...

Ahem...a check with the nearby Balai Police has acknowledged the incident taking place at USJ 2...where a series of snatch thefts cases were previously reported...n no further comment was necessary...

If the victim had not given chase, the thief would have gone on to snatch more handbags, or worse, get someone seriously hurt and injured.

Something not right here.
Do you thing that the car would have outsprinted the motorcycle n knock him in that short distance?
Perhaps this snatch thief speed n crashed into the drain on it's own while trying to get away.

Err...folks who often drive on trunk roads could surely remember seeing signboards put up by the authority...which state the numbers of accidents n fatality on that those particular stretches of roads...

Ahem...maybe it would be a better idea to erect similar signboards in the accesses of our residential areas...where signboards would state the numbers of incidents involving robberies n thefts...n the fatality rates of the snatch thieves n robbers themselves...

Example:-

*Amaran*
In June 2006 Total nos. of snatch theft accidents = 20
Total nos. of snatch thieves dead = 5

In June 2006 Total nos. of robbery n theft cases = 20
Total nos. of robbers n thieves shot dead = 5

In June 2006 Total nos. of car theft cases = 10
Total nos. of car thieves shot dead = 5

*Crimes don't pay*

You think they will do that? It is a big hassle for them to update those information. Also do you think the local residents will allow them to do that? Even the dengue updates is facing a similar problem. There are poeple who do not want to paint a bad picture to the outside world the problem they are facing for fear that their property price will drop!!

i just came back from my bike shop in sunway. This morning at 8.30am, the owner's 60+yr old dad was robbed by 2 indian motorcyclists. They approached, asked for direction and immediately said "saya ada pisau, lu mahu mati?". They robbed him of rm10 plus a mobile phone...

Be very careful of motorcyclist stopping near you to ask for direction...unless he is on a big black or orange bike lah :p

Err...dear PCYeoh:)...you got a concern there...the residents want their place to be safe of ills n crimes...they want their place to be cleaned n beautified...ahem...of course they expect the authorities to do everything possible...but of course a lot of them DONT want to do anything themselves also...

Ahem...when there are crimes happening next to their homes...they turn a blind eye...shut their doors n close their windows...but when crime happens to them...they yelled bluddy murder...that nobody helps them...

Err...no wonders them dog gone criminals got bolder n bolder...

this case reminds me of a case happen in Kuching many many years back.

A snatch thief on the bike has just snatch the handbag of a lady who has just aligned from her car, right in front of her house gate.
Before the thief can sped off on his bike, she managed to rush foward to grab her handbag, and pulled back.
The thief fell down from the bike, head hit the iron gate, and died on the spot...

I wonder how a simple fall from bike and a knock on his head with helmet on can cost his life... act of god maybe? ;)

Dear all,

The victim was a teacher who had just stopped outside her student's house. Her handbag was on the passenger seat (dear ladies, pls be reminded to leave your handbag under your seat while you're driving). The snatch thief threw a sandbrick and broke her side window, took her handbag and even turned back to give her a big smile. The teacher's car engine was still running and on the spur of the moment, just put on her gear and speed after the motorbike on USJ2/4. The snatch thief was trying to turn into the side lane which cars cannot pass because of the barriers. Apparently the snatch thief misjudged the turning point, hit the kerb and a big flower pot and got flung off his bike. I think he broke his neck. The teacher did not knock into him. She suffered cuts from the glass splinters on her arm.

Karma takes effect quicker than we thought. I got no mercy for such people. He is a strong and able person, he could've sell burgers somewhere and still make a decent or good living....

If i am a reporter -- The motorcyclist speed too fast and knock.......and killed....
If i am the police -- It was an accident, no one should be blame.
As a USJ resident -- the victim did the right thing.

Like what Sami Value said -- "It is the act of god" :D Sami first time you said the right things that applied to the right incident.

snatch thefts are common these days. my own mom just got robbed on last saturday nite on jalan bukit (main road of university towers near the hospital). both of my parents went for a seminar in one of the bungalows there and parked the car on the main road like the other participants. but the mistake was that they came out earlier before the seminar ended. dad went into the car first but mom waited outside the car as the passenger side of the car was muddy. then suddenly 2 thiefs came riding on the bike. U turned. one got down and started to pull my mom's bag. her natural reflex was to pull back (in shock). he saw it as an aggression from my mom and took his big knife and chop my mom's fingers. shirt torn. bloody event.they got away with the bag. thank god nothing much. old heavy handphone and old specs. mom always carried her ICs and money in her secret pouch hidden in her clothes. but the damage to her right lil fingers was great! doc said cant use or bend that finger anymore (it was cut to the bone!!). my dad is still in shock. think he's the worst victim coz he still cant sleep, eat and blamed himself.

theif was indonesian coz he had the cheek to answer my mom's handphone when i called him at 2am. indonesian slang. i felt like uttering curses at him...
May god be our protector especially in times like this! be more careful even if you are with your spouse! everyday minimum 100 over cases of snatch thefts in PJ alone (police in SS2 told us). :(

Alicia, I am so sorry to read this news. I pray & hope that your mom will recover fast from this trauma. Your dad could not do anything bcos normally this things happen so fast & sudden.

Yes, we should curse these snatch thieves. Let them all drop dead, better for all of us.

It is not safe to for anyone anymore :(

thank you. the elderly now are so fearful when they go out coz they can be easy preys as their reaction are slower and may not be aware of surroundings. I think from now on, i will take it upon myself to fetch them around when it's in the evening. that's what we could do for our parents.

anyway, last weekend (during father's day) must be a great weekend for crimes.... below is a blog article written by my colleague abt her experience last sunday too:

"The whole family (I wasn't there, was filled in on the details later) were on their way out for dinner when they passed the corner neighbour house and heard screams. Apparently two men were trying to carjack the neighbour's Mercedes Benz, trying to drag the lady driver out of the car. Her two boys who were in the back, opened the car door and jumped out. All these happened in the driveway of the house. Seems that they rushed in when the autogate opened while the neighbour was trying to reverse out. So, that's when my bro and family passed by and saw the commotion.

My bro actually got down and his family told him to get back in as the men had knives. He then got back into the car and drove to try to block their getaway path. His car got rammed in the process and the carjackers made a swift turn and got away. Anyway, all this while, the family were in the car (even when it was rammed!) and they were as shaken as the neighbour who got carjacked. The police came later and by that time, the neighbourhood starting to crowd around to find out what had happened. The policemen stumbled upon a handphone left at the crimescene. Apparently, they just put it into a used plastic bag (not special or new ones)."

Terrible, terrible :(

Alicia, be careful too when u fetch yr parents. Sometimes, I think there are many snatch thieves around. But nowadays, looks like bigger thieves are hijacking cars :(

Better be more careful anyway, especially to all the lady drivers out there.

ya snatch thefts are rampant now do anyone of us put any thought on how we try to counter it or just sit around typing till the cow come home .....

i'm thinking whether if we setting up a bulk sms network among us will that help to keep everyone alert or on their toes to keep an eye on all these lowly creatures? constructive ideas are welcome ...

that's a good suggestion but very much applicable to one community or residential area. but still it will help to have more ppl concerned for each other's safety particularly in our own residential area.

but robbery at public places will be harder to curb.
there is this church in gasing that has their own security guards that patrol the parking area (which is in the residential area around the church) and escorts members to their cars if they are out on their own. they use to have many snatch theft cases but with the dedicated security guards the crimes has been less. there were also cases when their own security guards had fights with the thugs and were injured too. so may be for public events, organisers should have traffic control officers and security guards to patrol over the area???

not really applicable to one residential area only though .... contrary we want to have members from everywhere, just imagine this scenario when the group got the sms about the vehicle reg #/vehicle type of the lowly creatures, within the same neighbourhood tupai is on his bike, orchi in his 4wd, mr guiness with his dog, usj27resident on his bulldozer ready to ram ... we pretty much have spies on a lotta corners try to nab this bugger or report on suspicious figure, ideally the sms recipient should also include those in the police force/rakan cop so action can be taken quicker .. we not necessary have to confront this bugger if it's not safe but at least we can tell the police on whereabout of this robber so we have higher chance of catching these animals .... same as stolen cars if spotted by our fren in ipoh during lunch it can also be reported, so the point is team members not necessary have to be from the same location, anyone who share the same consciousness will do ...

and for good cause i.e. need blood urgently also can utilise this channel ...

however, our challenges are how to make this sms messages credible as we dun want to turn it into spam ... also how we can contribute to the cost involve ...

Just wonder what are the snatch theft n other crime frequency happening in Bandar Sunway. Every day rain or shine without fail I saw the joint police n sunway security patrol van doing their rounds.
If the results are good then perhaps usj should also have such joint effort to patrol the street.

Just beware when you take the law into your own hands. You can be charged for murder if the victim dies. My advice to you is call the police first and then help yourself but just let one or two persons whack him. If too many, the chances of the victim suffering from serious bodily injury or even death is high. This is call mob mentality and you can be charged as a party to it. READ ON
