So I can't sleep...and I hate it!

Chin Wan, Wanmei. You guys must have had too much going on your minds in the day to cause your sleeplessness? I had the same problem too but I've overcome that, and nowadays, if I don't get to bed earlier, I would be like a walking zombie in the night! My other half had the same problem as he was a heavy coffee drinker and both of us loves supper! It's actually one of the main causes for our insomnias. But we're back to sleeping at regular hours nowadays, I'm blaming it on the World Cup, or else we would have k.o. earlier already! And yes, if you like milk, try taking a glass of warm milk before bedtime. It works for me, and no more supper! Hehe..hope the below helps.
What can I do to sleep better? (extracted from WomensHealth.gov)
* Try to go to sleep at the same time each night and get up at the same time each morning. Do not take naps after 3 p.m.
* Avoid caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol late in the day or at night.
* Get regular exercise. Exercise during the day--make sure you exercise at least 5 to 6 hours before bedtime.
* Make sure you eat dinner at least 2 to 3 hours before bedtime.
* Keep your bedroom dark, quiet, and cool. If light is a problem, try a sleeping mask. If noise is a problem, try earplugs, a fan, or a "white noise" machine to cover up the sounds.
* Follow a routine to help relax and wind down before sleep, such as reading a book, listening to music, or taking a bath.
* If you can't fall asleep within 20 minutes or don't feel drowsy, get up and read or do something that is not too active until you feel sleepy. Then try going back to bed.
* If you lay awake worrying about things, try making a to-do list before you go to bed.
* Use your bed only for sleep.
See your doctor if you think that you have insomnia or another sleep problem.

stay focus on WANTING to sleep...here's how.
Paint a serene country side scenario. Have a path, a fence (running all the way to the horizon) with a big gate in the foreground, a big leafy tree in the near background and a flock of woolly bleating sheeps.
Then u start counting the sheeps, only do it in the reverse. Yes, in the reverse :D
...Have the sheep 1-by-1 jump over the gate, but only they do it backwards...like when u reverse-play the DVD...control the backward jump to a real slo-mo....and go 100, 99, 98, 97, 96, 95....and the next thing b4 you know it..lights out!
Stay FOCUS and remember to count backwards...It is imperative that U remain steadfully in charge, as there are some black sheeps which will go against the order; by crawling under the fence (backwards too :D , by freezing the backward jump in mid-air and a couple other will want to wander off to greener pasture.
It works every time for me..i will be in na-na land before I hit 70 count. :D :D

I used to count sheep but after a while the sheep jumps over my bed at too fast a pace that I lose count... gave that up already. A good foot oil massage.... hmm.. makes me drift off to sleep all the time...

A friend of mine does take sleepin' pills to sleep previously. If not, she would be drinkin' a few peks every nite before she goes to bed.
As for me, I can't sleep easily nowadays. Unless, I watch boring drama ... listen to boring ppl talk .. read books (can sleep faster than you think!)
They say, ppl whom are aging is harder to sleep at nite .. is that true? If it is then I know am aging already ... terribly old! :(

Eve, I don't even know what is wrong wif me that I can't sleep at this hour now. Eyes still wide awake. :( Only solution is online and watch some movies till wee hours then go to bed try to sleep. This is also just a temporary solution. I don't take tea or even coffee.
I don't have such problems like this previously till lately.

My previous post was at 4.21am lar, haha..., I tot someone else wld still be up ma... Anyway, I stayed up all nite to finish work in advance for that day and went to sleep at 5am then got up at 6am for another 12 hrs of different kind of work. :(
Finally had a good nite's sleep last nite, though it was only for 5 hours, that was good enuff for a week day, I seldom sleep more than 6 hrs a day but I sleep soundly everynite.

Usually they say, ppl who suffers insomnia are the ones whos mind is disturb with something , a lot of think about like their work and so on ... so that's why they can't sleep until certain things are settled. If we can't be bothered with it then definitely every nite we can sleep soundly.

hmm, insomnia..sometimes it could be caused by our emotions? we could be too happy, too excited, too sad, too heartbroken, too stressed or just having the occasional 'interior wiring' shorting out 4 the moment.
but i think being in love, shouldn't bring out nightmares..if it does..time to :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused:

lilifjp, that doesn't make you an internet addict .. but eventually we're being turned into internet addicts. Nothing to do at nite .. what else can we do? What movies until nothing to watch, go online post until nothing to post ... surf around other sites until nothing to surf. Then what happen? It repeats .. it's a cycle that we eventually do everyday.

Me having ppl callin' me uncle which I think am not suppose to be. Some unca thinks that I'm even older than them, married wif kids. You see how this insomnia gets to me? Anyway, shouldn't blame insomnia part, partially also my fault .. previously use to hang out late nites .. sometimes for 2 days consecutively, I don't sleep also can.

I'm actually contemplating to drink myself to bed. Sleeping pills is a no no for me. But if I start drinkin' myself to sleep then every nite I might have to depend on alcohol to put me to bed. It's a very tough decision.
Good point is, trainning myself to be a good drinker but that doesn't bring me anywhere at all.

Eh....some of you having problem to go to sleep....but for me is no chance to sleep more ! I have been deprived of my sleep for the past few years since my 2 boys was born. Sometimes is so tired that I would just want to drop to bed and sleep but the little ones will come & disturb you. Wanna to sleep early at night but the little one are so well awake & refused to go to bed early. Sleep.....I 've been missing the good night sleep without disturbance. A chance to sleep more is really a precious moment for me. I love to sleep :)
I realise that coffee actually make me stay awake at night but I can't handle it I felt headache. I think if you have problem sleeping, best is to avoid coffee/caffein beverage.

I used to love coffee during my school days to keep me awake throughout the day & night. No headache one. I decided to cut down & quit taking caffein & coffee when I conceived my 1st child 4 years ago & now when I occasionally drink / taste some coffee, I felt "high" (like those people taking drug), my mind is blank & well awake although physically tired, sometimes headache too. I think is my body responded in such a way to against the stranger(caffein) which I avoided for so long that came into my body.

Ahh ... yes, I was experiencing it today body physically tired but mind still awake and earlier had headache but I didn't take any coffee. Prolly if I had taken coffee then would have been better.

Know what, if you are worried about your insomnia, having already suffered sleepless nights, then you are more or less expecting not to get to sleep other nights as well. And guess what? You get exactly what you are expecting.

Since you can't sleep at nite, stay awake then. Carry on being awake for the next 14-16hours and i betcha you will be rather tired by the next night fall...and snooze like a baby...Maybe you just need to break this sleepless nite/wake up late cycle with a marathon stay awake session?

Oh gosh! Normally by this time I my eyes would be half shut but tonite its really wide awake. Worst of all is, no caffein also like that, workout till whole body startin' to ache also still awake. I had only limau ais and 2 glasses of ais kosong ... still so energetic! :mad:
Maybe to some , this hour is still normal that you guys haven't sleep but to me, something is wrong. And no am not in love ya. Hmm .. prolly sleepin' alone is quite lonely tonite. Haha ...

i still hate insomnia..but a regular sleep time is essential to minimize insomnia effects.

Yes, I think it's because of the many activities available to us nowadays (online chat, games, news, sports updates, you name it they have it!) that distract our minds and this have cause us to be so active in the wee hours of the night.
For me, I guess reading the news and drinking some hot drink will help me feel sleepy...

Normally if you have insomnia I don't think waking up in the morning is the problem but feelin' miserable the whole can be the problem.
Sleeping day time won't help feelin' better and recover yourself from insomnia. Maybe you can try to last till nite time then your "clock" will be back to normal.
