Hi. I'm located at USJ 11 and am seeking a replacement for Streamyx. My connection with streamyx for the past year is highly unstable. When I ping a server in US or Europe (I get ping, ping, request timeout, ping, request time). It's like going to the movies and the screen going blank for half a second every 3-5seconds

Even after numerous complaints to streamyx, they have yet to resolve the problem. Nowdays, I feel extreme joy when I am able to connect to a stable connection. It's like winning the lottery HAHA

So I'm just wondering...

1. Is there any broadband provider in USJ that provides (512kb - 2mb) at a competitive price?

2. Also I'm just wondering, since the 'submarine lines' are affected, even if I do migrate to another broadband provider, will I still be affected? (Since to my knowledge most isps here actually ride on TM's backbone infastucture)

My streamyx connection is pretty stable but connection to overseas servers is always slow that's why i downgraded from 1mb to 512k, practical felt no difference in speed at all!

Your intermittent connection problem cld be the quality of your copper phone line. Somtimes if the phoneline is subject to moisture, or there is a bad physical connection somewhere u will hv slow internet connections. Report to streamyx and if they confirm their side is ok then u can ask Telekom to come and check the physical conditions of your copper line.

You can also check out Jaring Flite wireless broadband
http://www.jaring.com.my/broadband/?cont=flite_c_package#wireless

or their wired package but u hv to find out if your area is covered or not. There is this promotion until May 31 so check it soon!

my friend is using the jaring wireless but i guess USJ do have the service cos my friend is staying in bukit jalil.

funny thing is when he put the so called router at home and there is no signal at all and he need to place at the balcony with the plastic cover (prevent for the rain). once rainning, u can off ur pc and have a nice nap already.

However, it is solely depands on ISP backbone or area bandwidth (streamyx) for any internet connection you used...

Whatever you guys hop on, we rely on only 2 or maybe 3 companies with a leaseline out to the world.

Telekom has 2 or the 3(i could be wrong) leaselines out to connect to the rest of the world. I'm not sure if these lines go direct to US or via Singapore. If you guys say that surfing overseas sites are slow then I reckon, these lines go via Singapore(speed slows due to routing).

Maxis has 1 leaseline out via Singapore if I'm not mistaken.

So, ALL so called broadband or internet service providers offer their services with a connection via Telekom. Unless, these ISPs have their own backbone...which I don't think so considering the cost to own a backbone.

I am unsure of wireless broadband. But if you think about it, it will require a satellite and a receiver dish like Astro or relay stations located probably a few KMs within each other to transmit. All means cost to provider and unaffordability to consumers. Unless, they are able to offer cheaply. But then again, what about stability and reception? We are already facing on-going issues with Astro during rain.

No where to run...

Hi,
I am from an ISP that is going to launch a wireless broadband using WIMAX in USJ. If I can offer 512K and 1M residential packages, with 10-20% more than current Streamyx price, would you guys want to switch/subscribe to us?

Well...well....if the Quality of the Service is better.....why not? But does your package requires any equipment that will cost thousands?

Hi Birdy,

Our package will come along with an indoor modem (on rental basis), so you do not need to buy any additional expensive modem. Thay is why the 10-20% price increment is to cover the modem monthly rental.

If I can offer 512K and 1M residential packages,

You are way out of date. Come back to us with 10Mbps (or better, 20Mbps) for starters and that will be superior to Streamyx. For what you are offering, you aren't going to get any interest.

Excuse me all over Klang Valley is not Internet anywhere. Please get your facts right before posting the services. Bagan Lalang in Sepang available?
No right, then it's not anywhere.

On the other hand, satellite broadband is almost anywhere except for

1) Johor Bahru town. Why? Interference with Singapore's frequencies.
Can be done but proper interference test has got to be done first.
