Dear Friends,

I am pleased to bring to your attention that NTV7 and the Consumers Association of Subang and Shah Alam Selangor (CASSA) are investigating recent reports of thefts to water meters, replacement of "damaged meters" or plain replacement, which results in 'inexplicable hike' in the water bills as far up as RM40 to RM70!

If you have had similar experience at your household or are affected by this and would like to share your views and experience over the CASSA/NTV7 Special Report', please call me at 0162917001 to facilitate the TV interview.

So far we have received reports from Subang Jaya, Shah Alam, Klang, Petaling Jaya and Puchong and Bukit Jelutong.

Your involvement/feedbacks in this community project will certainly be appreciated by all affected Consumers!

Thanks! Shalom! :)

Since 3 weeks ago, 70% of my neighbours got their water meter changed to the new yellow meter. But mine not changed. I wonder why? Does the new water meter runs faster? one fact for sure, if the contractor that changed the meter did not do a good job which results in water leaking, which happends to one of my neighbour, the water bill will definately shoot up.

firefly's 2 bits....

Let's say a metal fabrication workshop down in bussiness...designs an anti thieft device for the water meters... Then at night goes to a few houses and pinch it. Then the next day, comes around offering to fix the problem plus sell you this device... Easy $$$ don't you think?

Who actually owns the water meter? JBA or houseowner? If it's JBA's then should it not be JBS's problem to replace stolen meters? If it's Houseowners, then can JBA just get a contractor to change the meter if there is no complains and without consent of the houseowner?

Today's (22 May) STAR page Metro M7, Syabas has a full page ad by Syabas saying that "all water meters in the State of Selangor ... are the exclusive property of Syabas".

Therefore, as Firefly pointed out, if Syabas owns the meter and if the meter is stolen, then Syabas should replace the meter (being the owner). Logical, right?

But Sysbas bills us for the replacement. :(
