Dear Photo Enthusiast,

Need your opinion on something. I love taking pictures and sad to say I still use my trusty old 35mm camera.

Is the 35mm Film or camera dead. If yes I might need to invest in a Digital camera soon.

The problem with me holding back is the battery life on Digital cameras. It dies on you when you are in a picture perfect moment...(ahhhhhhh feeling).

Therefore seek your opinion on the 35mm formats.

Thanks a Million

if you do not want to have the DSLR body with mombo jumbo exchangable lens, get a fuji prosumer digital camera is good enuf, cost is about 2k, their CCD technology is one of the best in the market. normally come with wide angle and macro mood fix lens together.

Thanks for the advice.

Was told that the Canon PowerShot A-series is pretty good.

My concern is the battery consumption. That's why I am still using my 35mm camera.. (people stare and make me feel like an old man). Got me worried when I heard that Kodak may raise the 35mm film price. could be 35mm film may not be sold anymore via convienent shops.

Will check out the Prosumer Fuji Camera.

Thanks a million everyone.

Hi xaviers.
People stare, not because you are old. But they think you are a pro! And they want to observe how a pro shoots. :D
Why? Only pros or serious photographers use 35mm. So you should be proud that they are staring at you. Because all digital cam users are only considered amateurs. ;)

These 2 pixs were captured with the Powershot A410.

A reasonably good 3mp compact. Add on the macro and super wide-angle lens attachment it becomes a very powderful camera. :)

Not many people will know if you are carrying a Digital or Film camera, unless u show them the back of your camera. :D

There are differences shooting in films, especially slides and Black/white and digital. You have to shoot both to appreciate both. :)

Xavier,

I think you should be more concern about how your 135mm film is development in the photoshop film processor lab.

From my understanding, each film processor lab chemicals require a certain quantity of films to be develop per day, in order to maintain a certain optimum performance.

If the films processor does not have require rolls to develop, the chemicals will be oxidized. The end result is you will get a funny coloured negatives, which in turn produced funny coloured photos. The process can not be reverse. The only way one could savage the photos is by digital means, this normally can be done by professional processing labs. And it will cost a you a bomb.

I normally take my films to be develop in a photoshop, whereby they have a digital print minilab. The reason is simple, if photoshop can invest in a digital print minilab, which cost from RM250,000 to RM600,000. It mean that they have been having good business before digital cameras was introduced. Good business mean good volume of films.

How to spot a digital print minilab? There are only a handful of brands in the market, for example Noritsu 27xx, 29xx, 30xx, 32xx and 33xx, Kodak System 88 & 89, all Fuji Frontier models, Konica R1 and R2, Agfa D1 and D2. However, Agfa had exited the market, Konica is in process of exiting the market.

As for your concern over the reliability of the digital still camera (DSC) battery life, there are a lot of digital still cameras in the market that still uses the AA size, which also could use rechargeable AA batteries. This provides that you don't mind handling a slightly bulky size DSC.

From my testing, the Canon A420 or A430 need a longer processing time before you could shoot another shot. A better choice would be a Kodak C360 or C643.

Happy shooting, be it films or digital
