PM: RM4.4b Savings from Petrol Price Hike

PETALING JAYA: The 30sen increase in the price of petrol will result in an estimated savings of RM4.4bil in fuel subsidies, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said Tuesday.

Earlier, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shafie Apdal gave an assurance that the Government will not raise fuel prices again this year.

and may I ask... why are Singaporean registered vehicles also enjoying subsidied fuel in JB... For crying out loud, the Singaporean dollar would mean they would only be paying something like 85 cents (SGD) which is almost half of what THEY would be paying in Singapore... on a one-to-one basis (RM vis SGD), we are screwered big time. Nobody says they can't refuel their cars but well, make them pay for what's the true cost of petrol.... or at least what they would be paying in Singapore.

Imagine 100 Singaporean cars filling up (minimum) 50 litres everyday. It would cost Malaysia approximately RM1.8million if Malaysia subsidies RM1 for every freaking litre used. RM 1,800,000.00.

Going to a Singapore food stall, a bowl of noodles would be $2.00 and a cup of tea/coffee would be on 60 cents. Now put the Earning factor into the equation... and boy! don't they have it good...

Suggestion: Lets all go to work in Singapore and spend our hard earned money in Malaysia. Seems that would be the only way left to earn a decent living as the cost of everything is gonna go up...

Its not the matter of why but rather, more like how.... unless , they get preferential (JPA?) scholarships or other corporate or company scholarship in lieu of daddy's (or mommy's ) patronage (?)...

Aiseyman... your guess is as good as mine...

Simple maths.

RM2b to MAS + RM2.4b to PSCI = RM4.4b

Why so hairan? Public transport and development project what...

You are right man. WE have to pay for the MAS, the MRR2, the study trips of state councillors, the scholarships of vips', the scenic bridge,

And while you are wondering the "Why" or the "How", 3 of the SOBs just pop open the 3rd bottle of USD1888/bottle rare wine discussing how sorry they feel for the poor middle and lower classes.

"Careful with that wine, this is a US$28K suit" screamed the wighead.

How much the increase does not matter to them. If I not mistaken, the ministers are entitled to claim for reimbursement for their car travelling. Therefore, at the end of the day, we the rakyat are subsidizing them

PM: We have to sacrifice

By ZUHRIN AZAM AHMAD
From The Star today.

KUALA LUMPUR: The estimated annual saving of RM4.4bil in fuel subsidy will be spent to improve the public transport system, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said.

Improve what public transport system oh? To repair MRR2 and MAS(the public transport system?)

He said it was not the Government’s intention to burden the people when it increased the price of fuel.

Are you sure ?

“The money that we save from the subsidy will be returned to the rakyat in the form of a better public transport system,” he told a press conference after a briefing at Bank Negara here yesterday.

wow, companies who are building all those MRR2 and other wasteful should have more profitable crop this year.

If Malaysians want the government to do a better job, they better start to demand it...but at the same time, why not look back at what Malaysians have done to get this government...

When the fuel prices were subsidized to ridiculously low levels, no one was demanding that neighbourhoods be planned better, or public transport be planned better...

The only solutions most malaysians wanted (then and probably still today) were more flyovers, more expressways, and more parking.

rapidKL only exists because the LRT projects were not making money...now the government can throw money at poorly planned LRT projects and feeder bus routes, wasting YOUR TAX MONEY in many more ways.

I am surprised to hear people say that monorails and elevated LRT are a solution for Malaysias transport problems...

Monorails and elevated LRT cost huge amounts...50 million USD /mile for the KL monorail...you ready to foot that bill again and again?

The real solutions are at the basic, grassroots level.

In terms of public transport:
Organize the bus systems around KL
Put information at the bus stops so passengers know what buses will arrive, where the bus is going, what the cost is (oh, and if you are in Penang, know if the bus stop is actually serviced)
Create restricted bus lanes so the buses can move faster and keep to a reliable schedule
Get safe, courteous drivers who can inform passengers, not take risks with passenger safety

Oh, and vote for an alternative government. Just like in Singapore, Malaysia has had a 1 party government for almost 50 years. Absolute power corrupts absolutely...have you ever wondered why the government can do anything it wants...the answer is because you are letting them get away with it...they dont fear the electorate, and that is not democracy.

Cheers, m

Aww, give me a break, man :p

Absolute power corrupts absolutely anyone, anywhere.

Democracy according to who? Democracy according to Canada

Example...we had a government in power for 12 years, ok, just 12 years, totally confident of retaining power because the other parties were too weak.

They changed the whole system to give themselves more power and were involved in very serious scandals. Thats why the last election brought them down.

Governments have to feel that they are responsible to the electorate...it's really the only power we have.

Cheers, m
