The much publicised Mas Travet Fair starts today till next Sunday. What are the 'must buy' deals you guys have come across? Are the deals any better than previous years or is it advisable to wait for the upcoming Matta Fair?

aiyohhh.....

the cheapest rate are for limited seats only. when i called the travel agent at 12 this aftn for a flight to london, the cheap flights for fri, sat and sun were are all taken up. return flight thur all the way to tues also taken up.
opted for departure thur cheap rate, and saturday return expensive rate (rm500 more).
total cost including tax rm34++ !!!!

didn't book in the end. so mahal!

am now checking out klm with option of a stopover in amsterdam.

if you're going to the orient, matta fair i think would be a better choice for bargains.
mas strategy [or could be non-planning as i heard that they were actually not planning to run the fair this year] to decentralise the booking has deprived us of the option of comparison shopping.

Errr... Airport tax (international) is RM45, the rest is fuel surcharge, admin, ticket issuance and insurance levy la....

But then again... almost ALL airlines now have this levy & charges slapped on the "airfare" :p

Shali.....agree with you that the airfares advertised are quite misleading. They should also include the hidden cost......making it easier for us to decide.

huh? you referring to the cheap travel fair pricing ( brainchild of the former AirAsia manager...) or having a social escort for the holidays... :p

AirAsia oso have this in place lorr... 9.99 to (fill in the destination!) then they whack you with all the surcharges ~ sans inflight service!

Agree with you......but the hidden costs, ie Malaysian airport tax, fuel, insurance and administrative charges to most Air Asia foreign destinations is about RM143 only......not absurdly high as Mas!!

BTW, AirAsia already having a 'silent' sale on their online air tickets during the May school holidays.

For comparison sake......Bali one way is RM119.99 only & return (inclusive of taxes) only RM382.98/person. For MAS return ticket (+taxes) its over RM600/person, despite being its lowest fair rates (which is unfortunately really limited during holiday seasons - according to most travel agents).

Prefer luxury or to burn a hole in the pocket, while end result is the same (ie. same destination)??? :)

pssss..........

today a wide body MH flight into Kuching overshot the runaway at KIA, and this had caused chaos/delays to other flights.

by the way, the fare offered on MH travel promo is equal to those offered by travel agents. So, what's so special about it. I went to Hong Kong last year on MH and paid less than rm700 for the return ticket. Didn't need to purchase much in advance like the so called current "promo".

Some more, this promo imposes a lot of conditions. In my opinion, when the need to travel arises, go shop around. Somewhere .. some airlines are also giving out their bargains. Or else, look for airasia la. Why kecoh2 want to buy now and not being able to travel when the time comes, then kena penalty : -

Changes after ticketing during MATF06 sales period : 50% penalty to a maximum of MYR150 or equivalent or SGD 70, BND 70, THB 1,670, USD 40 per sector per passenger for any changes plus fare differential where applicable.
Reissuance fee of MYR50 or equivalent or SGD 25, BND 25, THB 555, USD 15 will apply.

You may not agree with me .... for me going holidays is rather an impromptu decision. Too much planning sometimes don't take you far.

I heard there has been much critciisms in the chinese papers about this MAS fare debacle. Anyone reads the Chinese papers perhaps could translate for our benefits?

My friend tried to book a flight to Perth the first morning of the promotion and failed. He kept muttering that the whole offer was rubbish and blah...blah..blah because he couldnt get a flight. Not sure what exactly he was grumbling about but I know he was very upset after having stayed up past midnight to log on and tried to get a flight to Perth.

I thought I wanted to take a casual flight to HK if it was that cheap. Found that after including fuel and misc, the 299 fare came to over 1k. Just dump the whole idea. Not going. Maybe I'll try Air Asia and fly to Macau instead. Then just take a ferry across to HK.

This year's MAS Travel Fair is ridiculous. Last year, my Cairo tickets(to and fro) was only RM1685 including taxes ,etc. Now, without taxes and all, it's RM2000. That's a huge difference. Will wait for MATTA Fair instead.

With all the hidden charges and all i think it is time we passengers vote with our feet. It is not that cheap after all you know and furthermore SIA and Silkair offer better rate.
