I am trying to get the above for my dad who is suffering for quite some time already, but being age at 66, which device do you think is best for him. Went survey around George Town Pharma and being intro to 2 main product:
1. Accu-chek Go by Roche - claim to be the best seller in m'sia
2. One-touch ultra by Johnson2 - more recommeded by the pharmist by pointing that it is easier to use and you could see whether the amount of blood has reached requirement.

Both around the same price but ultra is only rm299 compare to accu, rm304.

Both are made by reputable companies and should be reliable. See which one is easier to use. Also check the price of the test strips. These things are like inkjet printers, the machine is cheap but the expendables are the killers.

Apart from checking the price of the test-strips, find out how many pharmacies near your place are keeping the test-strips... if you can find 3 or 4 of the pharmacies keeping those test-strips, then is wud be safe to buy that brand. I have friends who buy the test-sets only to find it hard to buy the test-strips. The set is useless without test-strips.

sabaidee .. I use Ascensia as prescribed by SJMC ..
The strips are also of the same brand and can be bought at Guardian at Giant USJ or even at SJMC.
Tapi very expensive la .. a 50 strip box costs > RM145. The tester itself is >RM300.
I check my glucose levels every 3 - 4 days in the morning only.. my doc says to reduce those foods with high calories . .. this will help the sugar levels.

If I am not wrong, Accu is lifetime warranty. They will repair or swap if it is faulty

Even Johnson2 onetouch ultra is lifetime warranty. And once, they give out upgrade replacement if you can bring in their old meter but u need to buy a set of strip la.

I dunno why I am gonna do this but anyone wanna buy Glucose Meters for themselves or their love ones, please PM me. I will be leaving for UK on the 24th and back on the 28th Feb... and I am willing to get the GlucoseMeters from there for you guys... Better than sitting in the hotel doing nothing! :p

Boots UK (http://www.boots.com/shop/product_list_new_template.jsp?classificationid=103 4583) sells them Accu-Chek Advantage for under 10 pounds each ( ie. about RM60 ONLY!). Seen the same things here going for RM299 each... so PM me... The test strips are about the same price here so no point to get them strips over there.. They can be bought from any of the pharmacies here...

So.. lemme know ... ok.

Cheers

Practically everything that is "essential" nowadays is so over priced ! Even the humble panadol is no more RM1.20 per strip but DOUBLE! I feel so sorry for people (esp. retirees and pensioners) that need these things to survive ( Dialysis/BP kits/GlucoseMeters etc. ) but cannot afford it cos it is so darn expensive...

Since I will be heading UK side, I wanna help out here if needed... cheers.

be careful - the product is cheaper because it may be subsidised by the National Health Scheme in UK and you must show some kind of card or eligibility before buying, otherwise you have to pay full price which is (i don't know).

No one is force to buy branded products. Panadol is just a brand name. Why not buy generics - just as good. Cheaper also. Uphamol, milidon, so many to choose from.

You can buy Nike, or you can buy our local Bata shoes.

I have bought it before ~ in the UK ( didn't have to show any card, doubt if they even needed the MyKad :p )

Spoke to the teller and they have confirmed that it is the retail prices instore. UK residents can opt for refunds after purchases from the NHS by submitting their receipts and registering with the Diabetic Society...

Anyway, I leave on the 24th... siapa mahu - PM me. Like I said earlier, its better than sitting in the freaking "cold" room in the hotel.... :p ( come to think of it... why are hotel rooms so bloody cold!)

Thanks for being a good samaritans, actually I feel that the Johnson2 are better since they even cater for future upgrade and also you can prick on your arm.
But if you r more convenient to buy the Accu-check, yes I would want one.
Thanks.

kmlim... check your Private Msg... my phone number is in it... call/text me.Also check the Boots hyperlink in the earlier post... all the prices are there ( you just need to do the conversion rates!), and I don't charge/include Postage & Handling :p

Btw, Boots carries most of these brands - no hidden extra charges. So all is convenient... your preferences/budget...

It appear that Home Diagnostics was best selling on Amazon.com (http://www.diabetesmilkpowder.com/Other%20Products.htm). Anybody heard that before?
