From The Star this morning (26.1.2006):

Najem now pledges RM1m to KL Hospital

KUALA LUMPUR: Self-proclaimed billionaire Elie Youssef Najem has now pledged RM1mil to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital. Apparently, Najem was unimpressed with the condition of the hospital's towels. He was hospitalised there about 12.30am yesterday after complaining of muscular cramps following his arrest and detention at the Dang Wangi police district headquarters. The Lebanese was discharged from the hospital about noon, after which he held a press conference to air his views on the state of the hospital's facilities. Najem also told reporters that his RM1bil donation to the National Cancer Council (Makna) would be banked in soon. Najem was also hospitalised at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital after his initial arrest on Jan 15.

............

Why are our national papers still monkeying around with this man? I believe I read before that his visa to stay in Malaysia expired in September last year. What on earth are our authorities doing? Throw him in the slammer and then ship him out of the country - same as they have done for other foreigners who have overstayed. What a circus. Or is somebody still hoping that his pledges would still come true? This is an embarrassment to Malaysia.

That man cannot be blamed as what he claims that he has brain cancer might be true. It might had already loosen a few screws and shorted out his system. Of course Malaysia is going to wait and see if the money comes or not. It's still money if it comes true. If not then they send him back la. I think they will just keep him under lock and key until they see the money lest he be let out and injures himself.

Jason, obviously the money is not coming but if you are referring to monkey, well they are already there - so many of them in the form of the police and the press.

Let's sing this musical along :

Isn't it rich?
Are we a pair?
Me here at last on the ground,
You in mid-air.
Send in the clowns.

Isn't it bliss?
Don't you approve?
One who keeps tearing around,
One who can't move.
Where are the clowns?
Send in the clowns.

Just when I'd stopped opening doors,
Finally knowing the one that I wanted was yours,
Making my entrance again with my usual flair,
Sure of my lines,
No one is there.

Don't you love farce?
My fault I fear.
I thought that you'd want what I want.
Sorry, my dear.
But where are the clowns?
Quick, send in the clowns.
Don't bother, they're here.

Isn't it rich?
Isn't it queer,
Losing my timing this late
In my career?
And where are the clowns?
There ought to be clowns.
Well, maybe next year.

My personal favourite :)

I think the press is not trying to give this man free publicity. To them it is scandalous news and such news sells. It is also to inform the public of the danger of fraud coming in all guises. As for me I am curious as to what will eventually happen to this billionaire or whether his marriage is according to the law?
