There is a newly opened kopitiam in taipan now .. I suppose many of you already knew it .. it's sardine packed there during dinner time till almost midnite .. din really imagine that their business could go that far ..

Yesterday manage to go there and giv a try at that place .. environment wise, i luv it .. cos it's cozy .. food wise, it's good !!! I dare say it's cheaper than Uncle Lim.

I only tried their half boiled egg & their polo bun .. simply delicious!! *drooling*

My friends tried their nasi lemak, said not bad ... & it's operated by bunch of young fella .. not bad!!

I think this shop beats rest of the other cafes in taipan already .. esp. Canai & Such .. :p

was there yesterday's evening, the white coffee is nicer and cheaper than uncle lim.
polo bun is not my cup of tea. the place is nice and bright. but the service sucks.
they need to buck up on their services to ensure they retain customers, i saw some customers walk off in disgust when they hv to wait to be served.

Was there again jz now for lunch .. :D Tried their nasi rendang chicken .. not bad, cos is not very spicy n not very sweet also .. jz nice! Actually wanted to try their curry mee but all noodles sold out for lunch .. can u imagine that  not bad for their business but then bad for customers that wanna try out :(

Yepz, do admit that their service is so so only .. not really bad. They actually hv a lot of staff but then maybe they are new so need to be polished more on their servings & taking orders ..

ppl alwayz like to try out new places.give them some time and see whether they still retain their customers.FYI,i went there with some frens 2 dayz back and i can tell u that their service is really bad...had to wait >5 mins for them to wipe the table...another 5 minutes to take order...i think the pricing is reasonable lah for subang standard =)

same day i went there once in d afternoon n another round at nite .. saw same ppl that were there in d afternoon was also there at nite .. haha .. i guess to certain ppl, business that busy like that , ppl dun really mind their service being slightly bad .. besides, we dun hv to queue to take orders n make payment first .. so there is advantage n disadvantage ..

if they provide customers some comment cards .. i think lots of us will put in our own comment there ..

i think there's a branch in tesco mutiara damansara oso..... went there 4 lunch with colleaguez....

hmm.... u guyz r right..... d food iz not bad dependin on wat u order n personal taste preferencez.... but d service sure suckz. they had 4 staff waitin on d tables.... just a small area, n it wasnt even packed.... oni abt 4 tablez occupied incl ourz n most had their food adee..... so datz quite a lotta staff!!

my colleague wuz complainin abt havin 2 wait 4 d menu 4 half an hour even tho we gesturd 2 one particular female staff but din git a response.... it wuz oni wn he complaind 2 another female staff who apologized n said "oh, we hav oni 4 staff so a bit shorthanded!" we stared at her incredulously, errrm.... okie, so u hav like 4 staff n there r 4 tablez 2 serve n datz shorthanded? gee whiz!!

but we realized upon observatn since we were sittin there 4 half an hour dat only sum of their staff r actuali workin..... hence they seem very busy, whilst otherz r errrm.... daydreamin..... starrin in2 d air.... walkin ard aimlessly.... checkin watch..... starrin in2 d air again..... checkin mirror on wall.... walkin ard aimlessly again.... checkin mirror on wall again.... seriuz, my colleague actuali did a count cuz he got so bored waitin 4 half an hr 4 tm 2 notice us n bring d menu!!

Everything sucks there! Their teh ice used to come in in a small plastic cup! Worse is there is no section for non smokers. I have nothing against smokers. But it's not fair to subject non smokers to a free for all smokers! I have no pity if they close for good.

canai n such put up a banner in front of their shop sayin' close due to renovation but then i guess its' a way for them to sutterly close their shop!!!

those whom hv tried oldtown at the curve / mutiara d'msara shud try coming to taipan here .. i think their service are lil better than d other side

here they hv more than 4 staff .. and knowing we subangrians ... v clever to make public complaints .. :D that's why they better serve properly , otherwise they'll lose tis golden opportunity in making it big in subang ..

i think they're close for renovations.....anyway, i personally feels that concept like theirs no longer work in nowaday's society.....7.50 for a plate of nasi lemak ayam...overly sweet teh tarik...and the list goes on....

I was in Ipoh yesterday. My uncle brought us to Leech Street in "old town" Ipoh and found the original shop. There are a number of such kopitiams in that street alone. According to my uncle, the really good shop (which serves the BEST coffee) is actually the coffee-shop which is located next to this Old Town Kopitiam. Unfortunately, that No.1 shop owner was reluctant to develop his business and thus his neighbour who was more enterprising and innovative started this franchise and now you have this chain of shops all over.

They even have a franchise next to the Ipoh padang. We went there because the "mother" shop was standing room only. At the outlet next to the padang, it was more up-market with air-conditioning and catering to the yuppie crowd. Reminds me of the shops at Bangsar, if you know what I mean. Unfortunately, that too was packed. So we went to the shop next door which is also doing the same thing. That shop is called "Happy Valley" - with reference to the Hong Kong race course. It is also another yuppie joint, very well decorated and serves the same things. Their white-coffee was not great. I shall presume that it would not be different at the Old Town Kopitiam.

I guess this trend of home-grown kopitiams will flourish as it gives joints like Coffee-Bean and Starbucks a run for their money. These local franchises have better ambience and their coffees are much cheaper by comparison. Watch this trend my friends.

Was at the kopitiam this evening with my family. Really, if I could have it my way, I would have returned the curry they served.. Three miserable tiny pieces of almost meatless chicken in curry that was so watery and tasteless. And they dare call it OLD TOWN CURRY CHICKEN! Anyone of you who wishes to try it should also try YeoHiapSeng. The latter tastes better!

Nah ... usj2 wins hands down and at only half the price. These f***ing kopitiams should just stick with their own specialty - coffee and roti bakar!

Some clarification. First, Leech Street is now called Jln Bandar Timah. Otherwise one will never find it. And yes there are a few original kopi tiams there. I find the best in Nam Heong located at 2, Jln Bandar Timah. Avoid peak hours as it's packed to the brim. Dont just try the roti. Try the ipoh hau fun, friend koaw teow and the pancake in front of the coffee shop. They are very good. Worse case scenario, go to the shop directly opposite which also serves very good coffee but the roti is not as good. The other hawker food also not that good.

I'm going slightly off track here. Aint gonna talk abt kopitiam. But the plain water charge is really pissing me off. The other day i was taking dinner at a restaurant in USJ9, upon finishing my dinner and my cuppa drink, i felt i needed a plain water to flush down all i had before walking off, to my surprise, i was charged RM1.50 for the plain water. I'm not too happy abt it, i having in mind to leave some tips behind even though there is a 10% service charge, i decided to change my mind, not even a 10cent tip for them...is ridiculous, all i asked was plain water and i was charged for RM1.50. I could've walked home and get one instead, my hse aint too far away from USJ9.

Can you provide the name of the restaurant which charged you RM1.50 for plain water? It's unbelievable that some restaurant operators charges such ridiculous price.

I dunno whether this place considered old or new style la coz never been to the other one. Where is that one, anyway?

I went to the shop one day before chinese new year. I was early. We were the third table that was occupied. Gradually more and more people came in. I asked the waiters what happened to our orders and was told three times that it was coming. When people who came later was served and worse still, after they left we were still without our food. I got to the counter and there was this girl who was making drinks. I asked her to check and she pretended that I was invisible. I asked the guy who took our order and he kept pointing to the side as said that our order was being processed.I lost my cool and shouted at him. I asked him to tell me wtf happended to my order and then he told me that he is putting in my order as priority. I told him that if the cant even find my order wtf was he going to serve me. I was really, really pissed and we ended up having breakfast in mac d. Those fellas are totally untrained to handle customers, crowds. I know they may be students, looks like it but the way they were avoiding me was unbelievable. I stood in front of the counter and they just ignored my questions as if I was not there. My friend who was with me was on the verge of asking about their mothers but I told him that since the next day it was cny, dont waste our time.

I will go there again one of these days and give the person in charge a piece of my mind. There was no supervisor around and everyone was running around like a headless chicken. Some guys sat at my next table and two minutes later, food was served but they had not even ordered yet!@!! Amazing stuff. And they dare to open shop like that.

I went to the new old town kopitiam a day before chinese new year and was totally turned off by their service or rather the lack of service. When we enquired about our orders, three times we were told that it was being processed and all in all we waited for close to an hour before we walked out of the shop without eating anything. The waiters decided to adopt the tactic of avoiding us as well as ignoring our queries and I was made to look like a fool talking to myself until I shouted at them. Then they admitted in not so many words that they had misplaced my order!! I vowed never to eat there again and I would tell as many people as possible. The staff are totally untrained to handle customers and to provide service. Cannot comment about the food as I did not have the opportunity to eat it.

i agree... the service stinks.

i cannot believe how crowded this old town kopitiam in taipan still is. Are people that masochistic? They do not know how to treat customers, and some of their waiters are so damn unfriendly. And when you finally give up and walk out (which i did, after only half our order had arrived), the cashier refuses to take your word for what you ordered and what you cancelled, and it takes about 10 mins to settle your bill at the counter. I mean, that is really adding insult to injury - your waiters treat me like dirt, and now you want to question what i did and did not eat.

Go shove it where the sun don't shine.

I think a lot of them were like me who just wanted to try out the place. When I went it there was only three tables occupied. One cannot imagine how they can lose my order and their waiters were running around as if they were damn busy. They were not when I went in. When I was standing in front of the counter and they were all pretending that I was invisible, that was what was the final straw for me. We have money,we can eat anywhere and their things were not exactlly cheap. I tried the one in summit. It;s ok. The deco is basic but at least they try and they smiled. I ended up ordering more than i could eat but i was happy and they guy in charge even extended me a 10% discount. I am myself in the hospitality industry so I know and recognise good service. It is not just the deco but the way the food is served up that matters.

I sat nearer to the counter went took the menu there put down my orders and ask them to go get it. Within 5 mins my order arrive and am happily having it wif my friend.

Maybe you can try it and let me know if it's better this way. Their waiters aren't so rude or ignoring anymore.

The ayam rendang was ok but sambal was really sux, tasted soury and it was very different from other nasi lemak. Oldtown sux big time lah! I tried their tiny outlet next to Chilis at Midvalley b4, the beehoon doen't even taste as good as 50sen packets we can get from roadside makcik. Had the curry chicken rice at their Tesco Mutiara Damansara - what curry chicken? 2-3 pieces of "chicken bones with tiny bits of meat still attached to it" in a watery curry, u call that curry chicken? Err.. ok la, maybe I can say their white coffee is not too bad lah!

Those who said food at Oldtime is good probably dun know what is meant by 'old fashion kopitam food' or maybe too young to hv tried the genuine article? ;) Maybe they just enjoy any food under the sky, good for them then. :)

Surprisingly there r lots of ppl in the Taipan branch whenever I pass by. I think once ppl found their food is not to their liking they won't come back if they can help it, except for the trendy youngsters who maybe likes to lepak there. Personally I think Uncle Lim's food is better, my wife likes it but I won't go there by myself, I'd rather go to a real kopitiam outside, hahaha. :D

i went to this place yesterday lunch time with 3 colleagues.

I tried their rendang chicken and their french toast... Not very good la..

Now they hire lots of Burmese/Myanmar people as waiters.. I also can confirm that 90% of the people went there for lunch, took CURRY MEE!!

Yes, i've tried their curry me .. apparently its very "ham" so I stop takin' their curry me. Nissin noodles all the same like Kim Gary / De Kowloon.

They hired those Burmese / Myanmar also better than those previous Chinese workers.
