There's no need to rely on sugar to sweeten your food. Fruits and vegetables do the trick and offer a nutritional boosts as well.

When making a tomato sauce recipe that uses sugar, replace the sugar with an equal quantity of finely chopped young carrots.

Make fruity drinks with sparkling water and unsweetened fruit juices. A can of ordinary drink contains about 6 teaspoon of sugar.

Adding spices to hot drinks enhances their flavour and reduced the need for added sweeteners. Try adding cinnemon sticks to lemon tea, a couple of cloves or a drop of vanilla essence to black coffee and mint sprigs or lemon rind to fruit teas.

Honey is twice as sweet as refined white sugar so less is needed.
