Ada hantu? Dont think so, i wonder why my cd-rom tray opens by itself even with my cd inside running. It came out with my cd still rotating very fast until my cd got scratched!

Sometimes, when I'm working, it suddenly opened! When I wanna play a cd, it kept on opening even after i pressed close/open button. I even pushed the tray! It only stopped opening after several times close, open..., close, open....! Sigh, make me sick!!!

Anyone can tell why? Kena virus ah?

Virus?! Possibilities are there…use an Anti Virus to check on it.

But to really look into your CD problem (if exist after virus scan) …try to get another CDROM and plug it in, see if it behaves the same way?

My conclusion is that there is a mechanical problem with the CD drive. Some spring or lock is not working, hence the disk holder springs out.

Check with your vendor the warranty of the CR drive. If still under warranty, bring it back for exchange pronto.

Thanx for your feedback guys! Just had a detailed check (from antivirus). Can u believe that someone 'hacked' into my computer and copied a virus called 'trojan'??? it is run by a program called netbus which can control someone's pc (aslo known as remote access!) - opening / closing cd tray, run any program by itself, and even shutdown the pc!

Has anyone heard of this program before?

Can be done also..By installing a program into the your PC by floppy dics..when u leave your computer ON without supervisioin...Saw it done by frens in computer lab , then able to control hardware like mouse , cdrom , screen(draw picture on screen and vibrate the
screen)...however must be within the same network..

To prevent cracking attempts upon your computer, get a firewall (don't get Windows one) such as Sygate Personal Firewall or ZoneAlarm.

Some CD drives have sensors built-in in the CD tray part. Look up the properties of your CD drive to disable this feature.

yes... there are several backdoor programs that can be used by script kiddies to control your computer... Examples of these are netbus,sub7,back orifice. Basically what happens is that once you click on an infected file, that file installs a client portion onto your pc...
from there you can do lots of stuff including key logging, copying of passwords, open cd rom, change wall paper, change registry settings, etc... basically full control of the pc..

One of the ways to kill off these stuff is to run a firewall and block all ports and only leave a handful open.... if the program can't talk to the hacker, the hacker can't control your pc... and please DON'T click on any unknown files....

p.s. use of netbus, sub7, back orifice for malicious purposes is illegal. As far as i know TM Net and JAring have installed programs to detect them.

If your computer is DELL, thats normal! hehehe :D they pop out when they shouldnt and do not when they should.

If u r afraid of people hacking into your pc when u r not around, just shut it off when not using.

Another thing worth mentioning is Wake on LAN / Ring. It is no good shutting down the computer just to be woke up by the telephone or LAN! Most motherboard has this feature disabled, so this shouldn't cause a major concern among users. By the way, "hacking" is the lay-man term. :p

Cheers :)

Before you attempt to do anything, try mount your CD Drive onto another computer and see if the same syndrome applies.
