Anyone been to Angkor Wat,Cambodia? AirAsia is giving free seats :D. I'm thinking of just book the flight and arrange accommodation & tour on our own. Is it recommended to do so in country like Cambodia, in terms of safety, cheated by local tour agent, hotel arrangement etc ? Your comments and advice please. TQ

my friend basically backpack there. was suppose to join them but due to work unable to go. from what I heard from them, is very interesting. 2 week trip, spend less than rm3000 k include food, accomodation, air ticket(MAS) and etc...

i plan to backpack to there also somewhere in June. Going alone...so if u r interested, maybe we get a few more people to join

AirAsia web site n portal congested today. Keep trying. I have got my free (so call free lah, but you have to pay for the tax/admin thing) Langkawi trip during MArch school holidays after several attempts.... but it's worth it. Family of four flying in and out of langkawi for only RM240.00

My ideal plan is a 4D/3N trip. Some of my colleagues planning to go in March'06 but also have to depend whether can get both way free fare or not. I only worry on the safety there as heard people said the country is not stablelah this and that...So...it's no problem if we go on free & easy on our own right?

I had visited Cambodia a few times years back. I am of the opinion it is quite safe if you are a man as I don't know whether they will strip you & do squats holding on to your ears. I have yet to hear their deputy minister telling every one to get out if they don't agree but then i think I am putting off all overseas trips for the moment as I wouldn't want to be profiled as abusing innocent women or telling my guest to leave not to mention that my country produces terrorist like azahari & top . I am also not sure whether my govt will bring back my body for funeral on humantarian grounds as i know those "CINA" who died overseas have to make their own arrangements if they wish to bring their bodies. Long live MALAYSIA BOLEH , LONG LIVE KETUANAN :p

hi evelyn

sori havta reply ur msg here instead of pm cuz exceedz d required length 4 pm...

okie, it dependz a great deal on whether u wanna do it backpackin style or hav sthin more comfortable.

i did it purely backpackin style... hence it wuz reali roughin it out.

(1) no bookin of accomo 1st, oni return airline ticket 2 ho chih minh city (our base).

(2) no local tour guide....

wat my frenz n i did wuz, once we arrived at d airport, we took a cab 2 d backpackerz area. fr there, we walked ard lukin 4 accomo. d room cost USD6 for twinsharin.... there r many all in d same area.... u can pick n choose whc wun u prefer, even view d room 1st 2 confirm u like it. but bear in mind, if u hav huge suitcasez, u may not wanna try diz out cuz it wil b pretty heavy luggin tm around. we were juz carryin backpackz so it wuz not 2 bad.... i oni had 5 t-shirtz, 1 pantz, n 1 shortz wit me on d entire trip.

tn we went 2 those daily-tour agentz in d same area, n booked transport 2 siem reap....

almost everythin wuz in USD, iz abt USD6 or more per tour dependin where n how long - 1/2 d or full day. (wuz 2 yrz ago, mayb slightly more expensive now)

we took a van, boat, n bike again 2 reach siem reap, crossed d border on foot.... (iz a dirt road)... there were lotza other backpackerz doin d same but mostly mat salleh n japanese....

(3) errrm.... i oni hav d namecard of d backpacker place where we stayed but it wuz yr 2003 so dunno if d contact detailz r stil d same.... but here it iz:
new family guest house
026 sivatha road, siem reap city, cambodia
tel: (855-12) 850 489
email: newfamilygh@yahoo.com

btw, d standard of d accommo iz kinda like rumah tumpangan ah kow, so if dat iznt wat u r lookin 4, tn ur best bet wud b 2 get d ground arrangemtz made from here 2 save u d hassle.....

so, it reali dependz wat u r lookin 4.

hope dat helpz.
