View Full Version : Walk from Sunway to Port Dickson!

yvonnefoong

No... not walk now. It is a fundraising event that Montaine center is planning for my medical fund. Like the title said, it's gonna be a walk (and/or by manual scooter) from Sunway Pyramid all the way to Port Dickson on a night trip, so no worries about getting sunburned.

We're hoping to have the walk in March.

We need to establish a committee to organize this, and I'm in-charged of rallying people. Wanna help out, folks? Let the Subang people come together again!! hehe.... pardon me. my campaigning skills are improving.

Let me know here on what you think. No details are finalized yet. Let me know if you want to volunteer and we'll set a date to meet up. Thanks!

I don't think I can walk a distance that far... but the idea sounds good. Its gonna be hard organizing something like that.

Aiyo...it will take 2 days to complete this kind of distance lah. Not even the Sea Games hv this type of distance walk... Wouldnt it be better to walk frm Sunway Pyramid to Subang Parade ar? Save time and distance mar...

hahaha! I also think it sounds ridiculous. But it's just a proposal. Do join our committee and we'll come up with a better idea together. who's in?

Yvonne honey, i will walk for your fundraising but to PD, that's a bit much, unless you can break the distance into several legs. But you did mention manual scooter...but i don't have a licence.

yvonnefoong
07-12-2005, 10:40 AM
Pet: Manual scooter no need for license. haha! Tell you what, come for the meeting and object to the distance. But they said there will be vehicles for those who wants a rest.

Wah~! Sunway -> PD ar? Too far to walk lar...
I doubt you can make it in just one night, somemore walking from here to the Sg Besi toll will kill me first :p
Maybe cycle to there will be better?

But for this event (either walking, driving, or flying :p ), better get the permit/approval from our PDRM first, since it will involve a group of people traveling long distance on the highway, somemore it's at night... maybe PDRM will spare 1 or 2 "Prince on white horse" as escort for safety reason? ;)

Based on the 5 km Fun Walk 2005 held three weeks ago, we can have a similar one but instead of giving the participants the free Tshirts, they now must buy the Yvonne Tshirt at RM 29.90. We can then ask the main sponsors to chip in ringgit for ringgit or something like that. Other minor sponsors will contribute other goodies to make the walk worthwhile. If we want more money, then we have to apply for a police permit to execute the walkathon style of fund raising where we collect money from the non participants. So I see no reason why we should waste time and energy walking to Port Dickson except to go for a swim.

I cycle from Bangi to PD before and the total distance for one way is about 60km and it took me about 3 hours

For Sunway to walk to PD is about 100km. If you guys plan to use Sunway-Puchong-Dengkil-Salak-Sepang-Lukut-PD way is about 100 km.

I could help out in this event. But to walk to PD it will take approx. 20 hours non stop (based on 5km per hour of walking)

What you can do is, walk to Sepang will do. And the distance is about 50km..then it will take roughy 10 hours to complete it.

Another suggestion is go to Morib. Subang-Kesas Highway-Banting-Morib. About 60km. And this will take around 12 hours also.

There is many ways of raising fund. Do PM me and we arrange a date, I could help out if its not clashes with my time..;) And also to give other suggestion ;)

Hey folks! Thanks for the inputs! I've read everything and everyone has great ideas! Walking to Morid or Sepang seems fun too. And PCYeoh's idea of a walkathon is also good! Hmmm... it'll be more meaningful to make ppl wear my shirt eh? Instead of printing another shirt just for the event.

I can arrange for press release, media coverage and publicity. (that's one thing I can contribute amidst taking care of the t-shirtt fundraiser)

By the way, someone mentioned about Dato' Lee Hwa Beng some time ago. Can we get him involved in this?

Here's a list of names and emails. Please fill it up with yours. Need to keep record la. haha...!

Thank you...to be honest, i am also having the same sickness with her. What I got is growth all over my body. And once a while, I will feel pain on my nerves and my hand. A partial of my finger been amputated just because of the sickness.

I will try to spread the news around on the event. Lets have a meeting fast on the 'walkathon' project and I will try to help as much as possible.

PC, LHB promised to consider helping out Evonne if it's feasible. Please arrange for Evonne to meet LHB once you have something tangible. If I am in town, I can come along if needed.

Yvonne, they are refering to the mamak coffeeshop in USJ16, the same one I brought you on Friday night to sell your tshirts.

We should stop refering it to the "stadium curry house" because this is the main cause of confusion and many a times new members have gotten lost because they found the shop but it was the wrong one. Can someone post the real name of the shop?

The meeting was much better than I expected. It appeared that AlexHay, PCYeoh, (the other guy I still don't know his nick), and BobKee, were more gung ho than I am. I was a bit worried at first because I decided not to work with the company that suggested to help me in the first place. Thank goodness the folks understood my dilemma and went ahead to plan this as a pilot project by USJ.COM.MY. WHEEE!!!

Here's the plan. I shall form my own pro-tem committee members and register my foundation, NF Malaysia with the registrar of societies. Approval may take too long, so we're also registering as trust corporation at the same time. The trust corp registration will be cancelled once the registrar of societies approve our application as foundation.

We intend to raise funds for my medical fund as well as NF Malaysia. In order to do that, we need to register NF Malaysia. This way, we'll be helping me and also spread awareness of NF at the same time.

The initial suggestion was a journey from Sunway Pyramid to Port Dickson, which seems more ridiculous that reasonable in our books. We thought about having a short journey in UEP alone. But in order to appeal to people of every age groups and backgrounds, we felt that having a fair with food and sales would be more appealing.

Our desired venue is the field by Kompleks 3K. Our agreeable date is 28th May 2006. We may need more time to secure sponsorship for the event.

Our first step is to get NF Malaysia registered as a trust corp. Then, we'll move on with further plannings.

Would anyone like to be involved in the NF Malaysia pro-tem committee? We also need a willing treasurer and some AJKs. I am only ninteen years old after all. I need some adults as guardians (literally). LOL!

This "report" is made according to what I perceive with my observation. I am lack of hearing so there might have been points that are left out. Feel free to correct me of mistakes and add anything that I missed.

Last night meeting was attended by Yvonne, Alex Hay (new member - welcome on board), Alan Cheng, Bob Kee and myself. Absent with apology are Orchi and Peter Hng.

The meeting was a fruitful one. Sometime, things are better organised with small numbers. We have touched on the following areas

1. Formalise this new organisation called NF Foundation

This NF Foundation now losely formed needs to be formalised and set up. The NF Foundation currently headed by Yvonne Foong with 6 other of her friends to create and spread the awareness on NF will be used as a vehicle for fund raising. We shall apply to the Registrar of Society and since this is going to take a while to get it approved, we will apply to set up a trust corporation under Registrar of Companies (can be done within a week) in order to embark on this fund raising. Once the ROS approves our application, the company under ROC will cease operation and NF Foundation will take over from there. This objectives and plan will all be spelled out up front for the general public and all explanations provided to be transparent. Since we want to raise money for Yvonne's operation it is also a good idea to contribute a small sum to start the ball rolling for the running of this Foundation. So we have to decide how to apportion the fund collected be it 70:30 or 80:20 or even 90:10 as time is not on Yvonne's side. Bob Kee will look into this aspect.

2. Organise a Charity Food Fair

We have identified one big project to embark on and will call it "Charity Food Fair" for the time being. It is fixed on Sunday, 28th May 2006 which gives us ample time for planning. It will be held at the stadium of the 3K Sports Complex. Having it on any public field will be a logistic problem in terms of electricity, parking, toilet and accessibilty. I will check on its availabilty and cost and if possible book it. We have not put a target but let us say that it should not be less than RM 75,000. The rest like coupon printing, side shows and other attractions etc etc we leave it to another meeting. Incidentally, we will have to orgainse a small project to raise funds to fund this big project. I already have what in mind and once it goes through, I shall share it here.

3. Forming a working committee

We have also pointed out the following major positions must be filled

a) Patron (already found one. Needs his/her confirmation)
b) Chairman of the Fund Raising (very focus with one vision)
c) Event Cordinator/Organiser - (very resourceful person)
d) Treasurer - take care of all income and expenditure (utmost important)
e) Logistic Manager - stalls allocations and set up (very creative and flexible)
f) Public relations - handle all publicity and liase with the Press/Bloggers
g) Sponsorship Manager - solicit for sponsorship and participants (very key who takes no prisoners)
h) Any other but not too many. It will have to be strictly non NATO

4. Leveraging on the good people who can help

We have to identify those influential people in Subang Jaya/USJ who can assist in one way or another on the 3 matters stated above whom we will approach via email and phone calls. Not proper to list them here at the moment.

5. Mass publicity

We will request Jeff Ooi's assistance which he earlier said he will assist is to do a cover story to launce this project. We also will ask him to do it in Screenshots as we know his readership is very high and widespread and borderless. We also want to rope in the bloggers too not forgetting the new kid in the blog, Orchi. We wil ask him to state that this one is definitely not a Cock n Bull story. We will also get KW Chang to create a new sticky thread specifically for this purpose.

That is all about it. Let me check my notes and see if I have missed out anything. Feel free to comment and share.

Orchi, are you s~e~r~i~o~u~s??? What do you guys think. It's a very bold move indeed and I would say it'd take a lot of guts to have your head shaven bald in public! But seriously, I think you'd look good anyhow..and believe your effort would not be wasted. What do the rest of you guys think?

yvonnefoong
21-12-2005, 09:58 AM
Heya Orchi! That sounds interesting! Reminds me of a blogger named peter Tan. Have you heard of him? He's this 39 year old orthopaedically disabled Penangite who advocates for social awareness for the handicaps.

Just last month, Peter Tan and a team of (4-5 bloggers, I think) shaved their heads and raised about RM5,000++ for the Penang Hospice-At-Home programme.

Check out his blog entries here regarding that project, scroll down to the posts related to the Hospice-at-home programme, and click on the subsequent pages at the bottom.
http://www.petertan.com/blog/index.php/category/hospice-in-penang/

So maybe, just maybe, you might be able to do more since this is a real live community, as contrast to a virtual blogging community. Perhaps we can have a mass shaving crusade? LOL! And then maybe, we can produce these "Help Yvonne" fake tattoos and stick it on your freshly balded head. How about that? hehehe...

Yvonne..shall I pat you on your back for the great idea? :p Imagine Orchi bald-ded, running around with a fake tattoo on his shiny head..I guess it'd take him at least a year to grow them back but for a very good cause, I believe a man like Orchi would not hesitate for a second..even if it's getting a real tattoo! just kidding..
Perhaps other guys could take up the 'challenge' too..it'd be more effective raising a fund that way if more were to participate and the rest might just 'give generously' when they see the sincerity in it.

So how ar..is this for real or not..yet.
