Me thinking of selling off my car since we got 2 cars right now, and one of them is waaay under utilized.
the problem is that car is still under bank loan, still need to pay until April 2007. So if I sell it now... do I need to settle to car loan myself first? any procedure I need to follow??

Btw... Can I get a good price if sell it to the 2nd hand car dealer?

Hey GreyShadow, since ur car is way under utilized I assume is still in a very good condition .. better not sell it to 2nd car dealers .. they will giv u market price of the car and maybe jz mark up a lil .. but if u sell direct to others ... u can price it at the price u wan ..

If your loan is still not settled wif the banks .. whateva price u sell your car .. u'll hv to settle it wif the bank and then deduct the interest of years .. i think u'll still get back some'lor .. ;)

If u still wanna find a 2nd car dealer .. maybe u can try ss15 there, same roll wif that subang hotel .. next to nissan car showroom .. at the corner .. !! :)

Good Luck!!!

If u manage to find a buyer that's willing to take over from you .. then sell it only !! hehe .. of cos your car geran all must prepare then ask the buyer whether to pay by cheque or .... ??? Need to go JPJ there to change name of owner when payment is done .. liase wif the banks also for your loan settlement .. :)

Ps take care. No signing transfer documents, brother, till payment in. :)

We (CASSA) - http://www.cassa.org.my have received just too many complaints on these situations and they are either second hand dealers or prime salesmen from local dealers!

Better to be safe than sorry! ;)

Better buyer upset/anxious prematurely rather than owner permanently - thats my drift Saudara! :D

Cheers & Shalom!

p/s incidentally what make is your car? :D

I have come across horror stories reported in the papers and also one experience by my brother in law about a hundreds tricks up the sleeves of syndicates who try to rip you off. These syndicate normally scout around the classified ads to look for their victims. And usually the main reason why those who want to sell direct to buyers is that they think they can get a higher price for their vehicles but some end up losing everything. The one my brother in law was nearly ripped off was this guy wanted to buy his Peugeot with cash but in Singapore dollars. He didn't even haggle on the price for he wanted it to be a quick sale. They agreed to rendevous at Sunway Hotel but when my brother in law insisted that the Singapore dollars be exchanged for our local currency at the money changer or a bank, he just left. In fact my brother in law got scolded instead!! This shows that this guy wanted to pay with counterfeit money. Macam macam pun ada. So not only buyer beware, the seller also must beware. Some deals are too good to be true.

dont ever sell it to a second hand car dealer....i sold my old car to a second hand car dealer and been cheated...now me in court case which have no ending....:( ..sell it on your own...advertise in the newspaper...

if u decided to sell it to a second hand car dealer...remember to inform your bank...tell them that u sold your car to who already. make sure that you go to JPJ by yourself to do the name transfer....pls dont repeat the same mistake that i did before and now me in deep trouble....;)

sell your car to friends or relatives.....or a stranger approach you, just make sure that you meet them in a bright area with some of your friends...if they want to test drive, make sure that ur friends are with you in the car...;)

if u want to buy a second hand car, spend a little bit more...go to JPJ at Padang Jawa or Wangsa Maju...take the car along there...get pusakom to check the car....make sure that the car is not kereta potong....;)

there is a way to check if the car is kereta potong...

1) Lift up the car to see if there is any welding mark...
2) take out the seat and remove the carpet..to check if there is welding mark.
3) the roof surface would not be smooth..

i m in the verge of selling my car now. the potential buyer went to a 2nd hand car dealer to seek a HP loan cos he said he can't just walk in the bank to get a loan(cos his salary quite low, this is trust him).So now my situation is like this. the buyer already paid me downpayment of 5k. the bank is gona release the rest of the 25k to the 2nd car dealer & not me. I called the bank to asked them & they said the invoice was opened by the 2nd car dealer, so the money has to go to them & not me.
i m in dilemma now. any sifus here care to advise?
the buyer agreed to write a letter saying tht i will hold my car until i see the rm25k in my bank.get both to sign plua a witness.at this stage, my car's ownership has been transferred to the bank & i got nothing left except the 5k & the car but not under my name already.
pls enlighten anyone....orchi???
oh yea, my car selling for 30k.

sorry misleading abit. i mean at this stage, the name has NOT been transferred & cheque not issued yet. i m just giving an example tht will be happening something around next week when i go to the bank to sign all relevant documents.
it's not me who went to contact the 2nd hand car dealer.....it's the buyer cos he can't get a loan for bank. so he's seeking their help to get a loan. i also inquired him y he did tht. i also got a shock when i heard this from him. he said he can't get a loan if he don't use them. hai....headache. i trust him but not the 2nd hand car dealer.

your buyer could easily seek for enquiry from AmBank which is the largest car loan financer in M'sia ... now by going thru a 2nd hand car dealer .. means that they might get a certain % of cuts from that balance of 25K

To be clear on it .. i suggest u get the contact no. of the 2nd hand car dealer .. :)

best way is to negotiate wif 2nd hand car dealer to try to issue another cheque to upon receiving cheque from the bank .. car ownership can do the transfer later after all $$$ transaction is being placed black & white document .. make sure u check the agreement wif them b4 signing it ...

Firstly, find out which bank is issueing the cheque to which 2nd hand car dealer ... if the bank needs u to transfer the name that time, they will call u if u have not done anything yet ... also find out how long the process takes for them to approve the money transfer ...

Actually comes to think of it, u're sort of like sellin' your car to the 2nd hand car dealer than the direct owner ... cos u need to go thru them , then i guess they shd be contacting u and providing u a certain form to sign / fill up as an agreement ..

Generally, jz look out for the agreement that they're offering to you!! ;)

Yes, u r right, kokomo. actually it's like me selling the car to the 2nd hand car dealer. yesterday, the buyer told me tht his runner(the person who engaged the 2nd hand car dealer)agreed to get the used car dealer to issue me a post date check. still unsafe right? can they stop my check later? kokomo? i m demanding for a banker's cheque.
i hv already found out the bank tht's gona issue the check to the used car dealer. in fact this tuesday suppose to go to the bank to sign the documents. must be the change of ownership documents la....it doesn't matter how long the money transfer takes, right? cos the 2nd hand used car dealer knows for sure the bank's gona pay them the rm25k.

satigue, since u're going to the bank to sign the documents to transfer the car to 2nd hand car dealer ... try to get the dealer to be there too as witness or wat so eva they call it .. then after signing it, make sure the cheque is issue to u as well on the spot .. if it's a post dated cheque , then need to c how far away are they post dated?!?! Best is only within 2 days ... if can get it post dated the following day ...
Dun care how the dealer gonna settle wif the bank .. now important thing is how u gonna settle wif the dealer .. normally they won't dare to giv those bounce cheque cos it's not good for them as well .. pls also make sure that the cheque issue to u is from the 2nd hand car dealer co. and not the dealer himself .. ;)

I didn't check b'cos i trusted the salews person & the buyer paid cash. I have big big big problem next week. getting screw by wife & also police & better still the police are all out to get people like me so uou can see what is going to happen. Don't be an idiot and pay new price for old car . wira isgwara waja :p :p :p they have not change since launched & selling for new at new price

Yah, you should only sign the document to transfer name after the 25k is IN your account - nothing less than that. If the 2nd hand car dealer should get any cut from this deal, it should be paid by the buyer who seek their help to get the loan, not you. Otherwise, walk away from the deal. Also give the buyer a time cap to sort this deal out. If he doesn't buy the car by 31 Dec, you can refund him the money and find another buyer! This is to make sure he knows you are serious and firm about this deal. No hanky-panky from his end is expected.

Don't accept personal cheque for fear of it being bounced. Get a banker's cheque - which is issued by bank only if the issuer has the balance in his account. That's safer.

We did exactly that when my sister sold her car to someone through www.autoworld.com.my. We met at Maybank, the buyer got the bank to issue the banker's cheque, we bank the cheque immediately into her account and check online from a pc there that the cheque is floating in her account. The buyer checked her car, engine chassis no. matched the JPJ registration and all are in order, we kissed the car (named Chloe) goodbye and handed the keys to the buyer. Adios! As easy as a ABC. Initially we were worried too on the best transaction method for fear of being cheated. The forumers here were very helpful to give tips and advices on how to go about it.

So, pls becareful. Do not hand over any documents / items until the money is in your account. There are too many fraud cases around, thus cautions must be taken.

Thanks for all the info. kokomo....even post dated check is not safe. the 2nd car dealer can even stop a check payment eventhough it has been issued by them. what is the reason they r holding the money back? any idea? i questioned the buyer & he was like not sure either. so i told him yesterday tht it's either a banker's cheque or to drop the deal. & i also told him to seek any finance on his own. we dun need any 3rd parties to get involve in this car deal. tht's y i was wondering why is it so difficult for me to sell my car off when others get it done so easily. & u know what, my buyer is paying around rm1k plus to his runner to run the deal(& also seek loan for him cos he claimed he can't get loan....just starting working with a salary of rm2k). i even spoke to my bank officer yest.he said rm25k loan shud not be a problem with tht salary. only 1/3 of salary is required to cover yr car installment. tht's the requirement.
he's taking a HP loan, so i m not afraid whether the name will be transferred or not. bank will make sure it will be done.
RolyPoly, where u got yr documents signed? at bank?buyer bought yr sis car cash i assume.

my advice is to make sure that they give u a bankers cheque....once the cheque is at your hand, then only sign it at the JPJ office and NOT at any other office.

or ask the bank to write their cheque to your name or is a NO deal
